The first car I ever got running was a 62 rambler that had been sitting under a tree for 15 yrs at my Grandpas it was the car my dad and brothers had driven to school. It was also the car I learned to drive in and how to drive a 3on the tree . Now that I'm in my 50s I wish I had kept it but a 68 c10 had my attention back then . Love the video hearing it run brought back alot of memories. Nice to see Christian again its cool that the whole family got involved in this one

My parents had the two-door version of the same car. Also 3 on the tree and a 1962. My Dad bought it from a drugstore in St.Louis that had used it for deliveries. It was white and the crease (where the door handles are) was light blue for its full length.We loved that car! We had named it 'Piglet' after the Winnie The Pooh character. My folks sold it in the mid-1970s for $30 when it needed too many repairs and had some bad rust.

A seized crank most likely means seized, corroded rings in the engine. Sometimes turned bearings. Breaking the crank loose with this solution or that does not 'cure' the main issue. Short-cut start-uppers usually break things, do more damage like bending piston and push rods without solving the root problem and waste productive time. It's not hard to take a starter all the way apart to clean and refresh it's contact and lubrication points. Alternators, generators, distributor, oil pump, carburetors, All fun to disassemble, refresh and give it a clean start. Pushing a seized piston out thru the corroded, rusty top-end is not sensible. It will resist and cause damage to a piston. The right and proper way; The engine gets pulled without further ado. Instead of being "the worst case scenario", the fun begins. The crank gets unbolted first. All pistons are pushed out the bottom end using wood pounding block on the seized ones. Never a direct blow with a hammer. Just fixing the rings of one piston locked with crudd and corrosion is not the common sense thing to do. The mechanic with self-integrity and self-respect gleefully addresses them all. lol. He loves it. The rings get carefully removed and cleaned, the ring grooves cleaned, engine block and parts cleaned and inspected. Journals, cylinder bores and ring wear measured for viability. Cylinder gets honed and ridge reamed if new rings are required. The head disassembled, cleaned, inspected. When the parts are within tolerance of viability, you know it will run, the necessary repairs are made, the valves reseated, and reassembly goes forward. That was always the fun stuff! I never found it to be tedious work or to be avoided over a little impatience.

Love this channel! But I have a suggestion - take some of your other cars, restore them to be roadworthy and have a sale with them, or give them away via lottery. What you guys do is awesome, but you have tons of other content you need to do something with. Just a thought. I love the camera work that Christian does. She's always moving, making the build more dynamic in context - movement equals work.

You'll have to get your sister in more of these video's Lance, as she adds to the voice stream, with some different perspectives on the thoughts of the car itself, and its cleanliness. I got a story for you guys. In autumn of 1978 I was 19 and I lived in Powell Wyo. I worked at Max's supermarket for $3.50 and hour. I bought a '64 Rambler Embassador from an aquaintance of a close friend. It cost me 50 bucks. It hadn't been driven for 10 years or so. I put a battery in it and drove it all winter. I had to put a water pump in it that winter. I changed the oil in it once. In the spring I went to live with my brother and his family in Las Vegas. I drove it down there and used it for a delivery car at his TV rental and repair business for a year. Long story short that car was fun to drive. It had a 327 police engine automatic tranny and I think a positrac rearend I wish I still had that car.

IC, in 1962 the Rambler American had a 196 ci L-head as a base engine and a 196 ci OHV engine as an option.

The COOLER cars were the ones that were in the beginning of the video from BEFORE the 1960s. That's the cars that I would love to see you fix up and get working. If you did and I lived near Texas and I had room, those would be the cars that I would have been interested in buying and would be more interested in watching you fix up and get running and driving down the road. If the older cars don't have engines in them, I'm sure there would be plenty of people that would be willing to buy them if you put a motor in it and got it running and driving down the road.

Rambler/AMC had a great reputation for fantastic engines. I don't know when they started but the straight six had seven main bearings and would run for ever. I put over two hundred thousand on several of them without a major problem. I wish we could still buy AMC.
@PapiDoesIt2 ай бұрын
Those engines ate head gaskets. My dad had a Rambler with that engine and it got great gas mileage but the head gasket issue was tough. It's from a design flaw; the head would get too hot before the thermostat would open.
