Speak to an accountant in the UK, but I would imagine given you are importing the car for business purposes (making videos + repair & resale at a later date) you may be able to write off the VAT which would be a good chunk of the tax gone. Hope you can find some way to make it work, I'd love to see this car finally get sorted rather than continuing to rot on Samcrac's farm :)

I live in Massachusetts and they estimate 6.25% sales tax based on average retail book value unless you buy from a dealer. The big problem is old restorable cars. I bought an etype convertible basket case once and Massachusetts wanted to charge sales tax higher than I even paid for the car. Doesn't matter if you buy at an auction and can show the price, show photos of it in pieces etc.

I would not touch it unless you are planning on wrecking it! The aluminium chassis repairs were done with heat which would have taken a lot of strength out of the structure.

DDE has two 599's they are very cool cars but are definitely not ment to be driven hard , they are great cruising around nice chill Sunday drivers , but unleashing that V12 can cost ya . Besides Scott you got much better things that need finishing.

The duties and VAT are only high because of the value you are placing on the car. Ordinarily vehicles are dismantled before being shipped and then reassembled. Better to partially dismantle and then you can record a genuine lower value. If the ultimate price is conditional on you being able to fix it then you could pay Sam $50k at a later date.
