The idea of there being multiple different kinds of Wyverians makes a lot of sense. I always just kind of assumed the MH devs were employing "Rumiko Takahashi syndrome" (that is, people just shrinking down to onion people as they age) for comedic effect.

On the subject of Xeno being an alien, there was this funny misconception I had back when World first came out that Xeno hadn’t evolved or come from space, but was literally a life form born from the abundance of bioenergy. Like some sort of metaphysical being, almost. Something about the language used to describe it and the fact that that I wasn’t informed enough on the lore to grasp the whole imaginative realism thing tripped me up.

Yeah, I've seen other BannedLagi content, and it's not bad, so it must just be that he interviews poorly. To be fair, I doubt he's very used to extemporaneous answers. The video might also have benefited from the structure of a three-person conversation, to make him feel less on the spot and more able to engage when he had an idea worth expounding on. Like the recent one with Jakob and UHC, having the extra person really helped fill in the gaps and lent a sense that at any given moment, any of the three would have had more to say. Although I did rather get the impression either of those two could have filled an hour video alone, without any help.

There's a lot of decent discussion in the second half. The issue is that Banned is only interested in what's confirmed in official media. He also doesn't really have experience with podcasting or stuff like this in general. So when Ratatoskr asks something that is vague, or doesn't have an answer, instead of elaborating or speculating he just answers "hard to say." A hardcore MH spinoff game where you play a novice hunter who gets shipwrecked in complete untamed wilderness (no village and no camps) would be quite awesome. I'd imagine you would have to build your own weapons, and build a temporary camp to sleep at night, and the goal of the game is to defeat the apex monster on that Island in order to establish communication with the outside world again (by lighting a big fire on the top of the highest mountain on the island, which is where that monster lived). And the game ends with your hunter building their own village there after help arrives (they choose to live there rather than go back), maybe they would call that Monster Hunter: Survival or something.
@Audiophillie
@Audiophillie Жыл бұрын
I love this idea. Even if the MH team didn't want the solo-survival aspect of it, they could keep story NPC's around by having them be on the same ship as you when it crashed. They could be depending on you to clear the way of monsters so that they could be the ones to light a signal fire, or whatever other climatic story beat they want to resolve the main story. It'd be a great chance for the ODST-type spinoff that I'd also love to see them do. I want a Bulldrome to be a serious threat, and I want a Rathalos to be a near-endgame fight.
@namealreadytaken7116
@namealreadytaken7116 Жыл бұрын
Really like this idea it would allow monsters that would normally be forgotten after a while be intimidating and pose a real threat to the player as well as not having the player be overpowered and think twice before going to hunt a monster since it would take a lot of resources and time to do so it would probably take hours just to get everything to hunt a something like a gypceros or congalala.But capcom would most likely not do this unfortunately.

@@namealreadytaken7116 What gives me hope is the "What Lurks in the Forest" event quest from Monster Hunter World, I remember it didn't give you any starting consumables and prevented you from taking any with you either, limited you to two players only and gave you pre-made builds rather than your regular gear (which is the ONLY non-arena quest in the entire game that does this, which is why it's very unique and I still remember it). So basically you had navigate the Ancient Forest hunting three monsters (Jagras, Anjanath and Rathalos) while also on the way collecting the materials needed to create potions, mega-potions, antidotes and flash bombs, it shows that they might be toying around with the idea of a more hardcore hunting experience in MH, let's hope something comes of it in MH: World 2 or MH6 or whatever it will be called.

I'm gonna have to go look for it later, that sounds cool as hell. edit: though I guess to be fair, there's a few arena quests in Rise that do the same thing. Premade loadouts, no items, start in the flooded forest and take down a nargacuga (i think? It's been a while) Still though, I didn't know that was in World. I think the bioenergy we learned in world has some ties to the elements and status we see through the series, with dragon being the closest to pure bioenergy but also a counterpart with the capability to supress some parts of bioenergy that can be expressed through the monsters. Elder dragons have a higher concentration of this energy which is probably what gives them the immunity to conventional traps. They have enough to give them enough power of natural phenomenon but nothing much more than that typically. Then we have the black dragons which have more catastrophic levels of power and bioenergy levels than your typical elder dragon. They might have the capability to surpass the restrictive part of the dragon element, or could be just something that's with fatalis. We don't really see too many regular monsters that use the dragon element, but they don't have much control over it by themselves or they succumb to it. This might also be a similar thing with elder dragons as well since valstrax with how the dragon element has made it more aggressive than what it normally is. This could be something that could differentiate a black dragon from an elder dragon too. The capability to overcome or surpass the destructive power of the dragon element through the monster's body.
@namealreadytaken7116
@namealreadytaken7116 Жыл бұрын
Nakarkos is probably the only monster that isn’t a black dragon who has full control over the dragon element and also doesn’t go mad by using it. It’s said that he only uses it when he feels threatened enough by an opponent and when you kill him he releases all of it destroying his gigantic cave nest in the process.

I was quite shocked to see Doctor Tadori was not a character from 4 Ultimate's Cathar Village or something. It's a farming village (which I wouldn't be surprised for a professional herbalist to originate from) and if I remember correctly, Shagaru resides close to Cathar- which would explain why he knows so much about the frenzy virus. The process of melding (whether items or talismans) apparently originated in Cathar too, which is the same function you go to Kagero for outside of buying items. Tadori and Kagero fit that location's aesthetic pretty well in both garb and occupation. The fact that they put so much emphasis on Tadori's role in the story and his relationship with Kagero left me confused once I realized they made no explicit connection to Cathar in any way, shape or form. I guess they never name the village they are both from so it's open to speculation, but it would have been nice to have a solid tie-in there.

I think Xeno is an alien, but not a new arrival. The story of the Sapphire Star leads me to believe that Xeno Jiiva came down on a meteor a very very long time ago, likely as a far smaller organism, then incubated in the New World until we arrived. As it grew and required more energy, it caused the Elder Crossing to become more and more frequent, eventually even changing its course directly to the Everstream itself. Then we come along, and it was either ready to hatch or came out early, or perhaps its species has the unique ability to leave incubation at any point after a certain stage of growth, in the event of danger. Maybe, if undisturbed, Xeno Jiiva would have grown directly into Safi Jiiva without leaving the egg at all, or perhaps its growth into Safi only happens IF it leaves the egg, as a response to more harsh and active living conditions. Big monsters like this are really difficult to discern the nature of, and Xeno Jiiva (which clearly is designed to look “otherworldly”) really confounds me, especially when it grows into a creature as visually distinct from its younger form. All of that makes me think the Jiiva species didn’t quite originate on Monster Hunter’s planet.

Val Hazak and Xeno Jiiva may be linked. Similar structure, especially the head and eyes. Val Hazak is introduced covered in corpses, almost like a cocoon. Drawn to the corpse of an Old Dead Elder Dragon (Dalamadur) to feed on. Maybe that is how Xeno Jiiva became what it is because it was in the Elder's Recess and had a less diluted source of "Bioenergy". Food for thought.

@wavemasterxyra1630

They both seem to feed off "bio energy". Consider that the Caterpillar and it's metamorphosis into a Butterfly. Xeno Jiiva appears to come from a cocoon. Since Xeno turns Safi after our first encounter we can see hardening of the scales and the lose of redundant Organ (the eyes) Safi seems to have great control over "bioenergy" compared to the freshly emerged Xeno. The Elder's Recess is where a lot of Pure Elder Dragon "Bioenegry" has condensed. The Rotten Vale, which contains a massive corpse of a Dalamadur, attracted a lot of scavengers but is no place for Elder Dragons, except one, Vaal Hazak. Vaal Hazak uses the effluvia, which it seems to pull from the from the surroundings. The surroundings of a life form so massive that it reshaped the the bottom of the Coral Highlands into the Rotten Vale. Vaal Hazak appears cocooned in corpses and sucks the life essence from the approaching Girros, one must ask what is connection between "bioenergy" and effluvia? Is it stagnated "bioenergy" unable to form into crystals because of impurities? That would have an effect on its metamorphosis, which I believe they would adapt too. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a connection, the game is about research after all and the character would not be correct about everything. The evidence is clear to me, maybe to others as well? And besides, if games like Dark Souls can have subtextual lore, why not Monster Hunter? Let me know what you think?

The story of Sunbreak will continue with the title updates. Not all the Monsters come with the afflicted quests. They sliced off the end of the game so they can make good on the promise of "several new monsters".
@tamago9026
@tamago9026 Жыл бұрын
I believe that's wrong, amd even then it doesn't matter. Sunbreak's story has closure and a sense of accomplishment, which base rise's didn't. Base rise released incomplete, and the title updates felt like they should have been there from the start. For sunbreak, it feels like it ended where the director wanted it to end, not where company higher-ups forced out the game. If adding story post-launch is somehow "proof" of intentionally cutting the story, then Fatalis and Alatreon should have been in base Iceborne. And slowly rolling out things like afflicted is pretty standard procedure for games with post-release support to extend the duration of said support (Iceborne added more and more tempered monsters in the guiding lands along with their augment materials when new regions were unlocked for the map). I don't see how the forlorn arena is gonna have anything to do with the main narrative of rise; just like Castle Schrade and stuff, they'll give us an excuse to go there, but it feels detached from the "main" story, it truly feels like additional content (unlike allmother which felt like rise's actual conclusion).
@wavemasterxyra1630

The Qurio are still an active threat but they really dropped the ball with it. They already gave us a really immersive quest with the Lunargaron before the final story mission. Had they made Afflicted Monster play out exactly like how that quest did, from the music to the lack of any life on the map, and make a handful of them show up randomly (Like the random Quests in 4U involving defending the town) it would have been a much better end game then having half the roaster basically get a health and damage boost. The story in Monster Hunter is always the same- Inital threat thought to be causing all the problem, kill it, but wait it was actual this other Monster! While I did enjoy the characters and you are right about this expansion having a more satisfying conclusion, the fact that this iteration as a whole is willing to just leave monsters out for no reason is absurd. Lucent Narga at least will have different enough stuff than base to make it feel fresh, but what is the justification behind no higher end afflicted? They only get more hp and damage, not even new moves or more sporadic behavior, like something being driven crazy by parasites would? Remember that Anjanath? It was freaking out but could handle it, maybe because it was already weak, who knows. Either way, as long as Capcom is more concerned with just handing out Master Rank to catch all the tourist, it is going to keep leading to situations like this.

I don't get it, what's the point coming on a podcast if you clearly don't want to talk. This is on Ratatoskr for not editing out the silence. But you absolutely under no circumstance allowed to have dead air on a podcast. It's rule number 1.

"Monobolos. Wee-verns. Tee-grex" I cant believe I'm hearing such scandalous pronunciations from the MH lore guy himself, maybe we've all been wrong

Bad conversation as a whole. I understand MH lore is vague and the writers don't confirm much since the setting is a post apocalyptic cave-punk world after the ancient Fatalis nuke the ancient civilization, but Banned could have at least made some interesting speculation about the various talking points/questions. If this was an Elden ring lore podcast vid, the lore "savvy" equivalent of banned would basically just reply with "It's hard to say" or "i'm not sure" to every question regarding a subject that isn't concrete stated as fact.

ok here is a way that they can bring the Dragon Equal Weapon without making the great dragon war cannon so the story of the game is: There is a group of poachers/riders that they hunt large amount of monsters to the point where the hunters guild is starting to notice the near extinction of some species for a set eco system The poachers use the parts to build armors that change hitzone values, add status effects to set attacks etc for the monsters that they tame (mechanics wise opens the possibility for custom monsters that you ca create or the game can generate with RNG for an end game grind also opens a path for an asymmetric PvP mod - 4 hunters vs 1 poacher/rider) as the story progresses you learn that they are trying to build the Dragon Equal Weapon from some absurd legend you were a moment too late to prevent them from building it but its a failure, but just as the guild is trying to clear the area an Athal Katha appears and takes control of the lifeless abomination of countless monster parts and you fight both Athal Katha and the Dragon Equal Weapon at the same time(more like on stages but whatever will take it either way)

Before Capcom started the trend of rushing everyone to the expansion as seen in World and Rise, G Rank(Master Rank for you Fivers out there) was something you had to work up too. While our characters can Excel, we don't experience the fear, pain or stress that in game hunters would. Some even make mention of permanent injury. This would lead a misconception of the power scaling between Low Rank (Easy Mode, Lower threats, maybe younger, less experienced Threats) High Rank (Hard Mode - Threats that are much more dangerous, maybe taken lots of lives, done significant damage or a minor threat to the ecosystem) the G Rank ( Extreme Mode - Highest possible threats, more than likely have taken countless other hunters or civilian's lives or are an ecological threat.) Rotating Quests would show that G Rank Missions would be much rarer but that would effect game play for the sake of a lot of immersion most players wouldn't like.

No elden ring podcast? Under paywall or what? You are just a group of friends talking about entertainment. What makes you think you deserve a single dime for it? If you do this for the money then I don't want to hear any of you anymore. Bye.
