Doubly funny because VaatiVidya's is doubling down on some "I told you so" type shit. Like cool if Souls fans are interested but I'd wish they just shut the fuck up and play it first. What the devs seem to be stressing in regard to the heals is the fact that, instead of guaranteeing a larger effective health pool, you have to pick and choose when the best situation to use them is. There's a decision-making and strategizing matrix associated with having limited healing charges that isn't there when you just have a larger flat hp pool, because heals can be wasted. Cowboy brings up 50k hp with 3 full heals is 200k ehp, *if the heals are timed perfectly*. You are not gonna be able to always time heals perfectly. You are not going to be able to perfectly efficiently use heals at all times. Not every enemy and not every attack drops you to exactly 1 hp before they kill you. Sometimes you're gonna have to use an inefficient heal right now so that you don't die to whatever comes next. That kind of strategizing hasn't really ever been there in Armored Core, but it is just generally usually good game design for difficulty-focused action games, and I'm not upset to see it being used here. Planning out when to use and when to hold onto a healing item is just another piece of skill expression, after all.

The part when he started talking about having a family, and a job outside of the channel made me laugh hard while giving him a thumbs up. He's right you know, nit picking is kinda petty. I think if this was Elden Ring 2 or a newer entry into Dark Souls I would have been more indulgent of concerns, but AC was never mainstream, just niche.. So the anger and the very vocal people feel like half a dozen angsty bois with nothing better to do. This is not the greatest franchise of all time, it's not even the studio's main "it" franchise, and since I swear IGN gave them like a 6 for AC5 they skipped an entire console generation without releasing an entry. They have every right to experiment and give the franchise some rejuvenation. They have every right to feel concerned and try to do their best to get their game renown and success. They need money to put food on the table, wish people would understand that. They're not Sony, they're not Nintendo, this is a third party dev who needs other companies like Bandai Namco to be their distributer.

So much of this depends on what the checkpoint pacing is like, and there's no reason to think it's going to be universally paced from mission to mission. Getting a boss checkpoint in the example mission doesn't imply it will be the case in every mission because we know that Fromsoft likes to vary the challenge - think bonfire/site of grace placement - it'll be deliberately uneven for specific effect.

imo the full heals are not necessarily a problem if enemies can still down you 20-50 percent of your health in one attack like in AC4FA or AC5VD. if anything it encourages more decision making "Oh i still have my 30% HP left, but I know this boss has that one attack that can instantly take out more of that 30 percent HP, do I heal now to full health and waste that 30 percent HP? or do I delay to take the boss's weaker/chip attack , but risk getting one shotted before I can spend my heals?" , if anything it's not casual at all, it's an extra resource you have to manage compared to older games.

I don't understand why all those new mechanics are hated by even a small part of people. Many old AC missions can be completed in 1-3 minutes and have 1 little objective. It will be weird if you need any additional heals for such short missions. Also, what is so casual in changing the build for the boss fight? We were doing it all time - in old gens, we have a mission to defeat the boss, prior to this, we change your AC and then fight the boss. It is the same in AC6, despite the fact that all missions of the chapter are glued together by checkpoints.
@rexsybimatrimawahyu3292 Жыл бұрын
Agree to this. I have a feeling that AC VI missions will have the same length like Ace Combat missions, like 8-15 minutes per mission and it's necessary for FromSoft to add those repair mechanic into the game to balance out missions. There is always a developer reasoning in building games like this

The way lock-on works in Souls games does not eliminate the need to manually direct your camera. There are many instances in which lock-on is a liability, like when fighting multiple enemies, or when fighting on Torrent. Also, many bosses can break your lockon: Malenia, Morgott, Radagon, Maliketh, Lost Sinner, Orphan of Kos, Ludwig...etc etc. Simply having a lock-on doesn't mean that camera movement will be nonexistent. The idea that having a hard lock-on makes the game "easier" is kind of ridiculous. Since this is a mech game involving guns and missiles, there may be instances where you have to unlock in order to track targets. Lock-on is not the easy-mode mechanic that some people think it is.
@smithsmith6402 Жыл бұрын
Try modding in an assault rifle and see if that opinion holds up. I really feel like Cowboy was totally glossing over this. Most weapons in AC are not shotguns. And breaking the enemy lockon window was the only thing keeping things like machineguns and shotguns viable as opposed to some ungodly railgun or bazooka with a target window the size of a postage stamp you need to hold on top of the enemy for a full second to even start a lock, and if they escape it for even one frame you're just blind firing again. Completely trivializing the task of holding an enemy dead centre in your view is a MASSIVE gameplay change. It'd be like if the next Elden Ring came out and it just had no lockon at all and people tried to play it off as no big deal. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I foresee big 'long range' (that are now viable at all ranges) cannons being completely overpowered, in the same way laserblades completely trivialzed arms forts in AC4, and various flavours of magic have taken their turns utterly dominating the Souls games. Fromsoft does NOT deserve this "they can't possibly screw it up" credit they are being given. They faceplant on pretty obvious balance issues all the time, especially where PvP is concerned, and a big part of the AC franchise are duels which will have functionally the same balance.

at 23:00 I agree for the most part, however in each interview I have seen they have emphasized the singleplayer and de emphasized the multiplayer. So if they thought it would greatly benefit singleplayer to have this style of lockon and make it easier to control around bosses would it be worth the problems that would occur in multiplayer? 35:15 This is the exact same idea behind why I don't like free refills at camps in monster hunter
@DJWeapon8 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Refills in MH shouldn't be free. In my ideal MH. Refills are limited and you have to unlock it first on a map by map basis. You also have to upgrade it multiple times to max out how much you can refill. And even then, you're still limited in what you can refill. At max upgrades: For items, you can only bring 10 full stacks of extra item types. (10 extra mega potions, 2 extra max potions, 1 extra ancient potion, 60 lv1 piercing shells, etc) For weapons, you can only bring 3 of any type. For armor, you can only bring 3 of each type of armor equalling to 3 full armor sets. For AC. Well, I only played up to the early game of Verdict Day. But "refill" mechanics that make sense to me in my limited experience with Armored Core should also cost the player resources, time, and be limited. Maybe steal ammo and energy off enemy supply depots. Use enemy auto repair bays to refill your AP. Buy parts for your AC to increase its ammo capacity. Take over an outpost or clear an LZ and pay your employer to airdrop a new weapon, extra ammo, or bring in a 2nd fully built AC to swap to.
@kwagmeijer26 Жыл бұрын
The problem with lock on, for me, is the automatic turning to face, even at acute angles. You might say "trust From" but even then, Monster Hunter has better combat than any From game, and a big part of that is how its lock on system works.
@DJWeapon8 Жыл бұрын
Played MH since 2008. The constant lock on in MH starting from World isn't even a lock on. Its just the camera following the monster. You still need to actively control your hunter's positioning and aim their weapon to hit the monster. From what I've seen of AC6, the lock on makes your AC automatically and *_very quickly_* point its front towards the target at all times.
@lethauntic Жыл бұрын
This was a surprise even though It also kinda wasn't. Good podcast, though, hearing both of you talk about AC was great and Cowboy actually did change my mind about my concerns over hard-lock and repair packs. Mostly anyways. I wasn't super _against_ the mechanics, but just unsure, airing on the side of skepticism while being hopeful of their implementation. But after today I am more optimistic than before. Which I try to be as optimistic as I can about things in general, because that feels a hell of a lot better than the opposite. And I have renewed my trust in From to make AC 6 the best it can-- not that I doubted them really, I was never not excited, but I really just can't wait. Also, I didn't watch the Starfield direct because I just didn't have much interest based on previous footage, but after hearing both of you talk about it I think I need to go back and watch it because it sounds like my kind of game. Not that I'll necessarily get it, but that at this moment it's on my radar and if the direct gives me a good impression then I may very well play a Bethesda game for the first time in who knows how long. One more thing; I desperately wish I had a PS5 after hearing all this talk about Final Fantasy 16's demo. There's now a few games I would get a PS5 for (which for the last two years was literally only Ratchet and Clank RA (which is coming to Steam) and maybe Demon's Souls just cause that's it) including FF7 Rebirth which is less than a year away assuming no big delay. But god dammit I wanna play FF 16 so bad and now I'll have to avoid spoilers for who knows how many months until I can _maybe_ get one. I've seen PS5's in the wild, which is nice, so when I get a chance I won't have to play the game of having to snag one before a bot does.

I think the planets in Starfield are going to be very similar to No Man's Sky, but with more variety and terrain since this is a much newer game. NMS has planets that are functionally real life size planets, like thousands of actual km across. I think they will have a buffed version of Skyrims procedural quest system, and probably have a bunch of side objectives like exploring and scanning to complete, but mostly I think they will be empty space. A place to farm resources or a sandbox environment to create stuff in. I think there will be a handful of curated planets that will feel like handcrafted locations like previous Bethesda games, but probably not more than 10-12. I'm totally ok with thousands of barren planets though because its just a blank canvas to do anything you want. I cannot wait for modders to get their hands on this game.

So I just wanted to point a few things out before finishing video, but the take on lock on from cowboy was on the money, I mean as a player of previous titles 2 & 4Answer have my heart. But boost 180 quick turn was always a manual mechanic in 4A. Turning speed was also always a major thing in 4-4A, hence learning quick turn was a must. I welcome the changes except for the mid mission respect, but I think I'll learn to enjoy it with time, just like verdict day which again y'all we're right and I hated it at first. I think these manual to auto mechanic updates will help some veteran players and new players to the franchise. Plus it will also add more players due to a slightly easier entry curve. I mean let's be honest, AC in it's original mechanics form is off putting due to its complexity and high skill level. I want to add a comment on the condensing of parts and stat screen but since I haven't fully finished watching this video as of yet and I haven't seen an actual full deep dive breakdown of anything yet also no hands on experience, I'll hold off for now. I will say due to this franchise being my favorite franchise and genre I welcome it all the while stalking my pre order😂 waiting for the fun and excitement of being able to build again with this new entry. The madness I'm gonna make, and I can fire all weapons at once now. What?... Do people not understand the crazy fromsoft is about to let loose? Piloting mechanics needed help in my opinion to keep up with combatting all the fuckery that's fitting to go on.. Watched more and I'd definitely welcome co-op and invasions

The only way a game can be a “souls like” is if it matches the progression of a souls game. The main elements I’m talking about is bonfires, progressing through levels with enemies you have to kill, that respawn when you rest, and a boss at the end of the level behind a fog gate that blocks your progression. That’s the main thing when I think of the dark souls formula. For that reason I consider Sekiro a souls like.

I love that everyone including AC fans somehow played the shit out of 4 and For Answer but forgot those games had a hard lock on not dissimilar to what was being described for 6. I'm not ignorant to AC's niche status. I'm just glad we are getting a new one with a genuine budget behind it. AC never had a chance to flex with Elden Ring dollars behind. Let them cook and see what happens.

I had issues emulating Last Raven, but no issues with For Answer. I emulate those games with hopes to have a better experience since my ps2 died long ago. I have collected all the console (not handheld) Armored Core games, but emulation can improve the experience.

To add, I bought Monster Hunter (original) for PS2 when it was 3 days old. Loved it. It was Souls before Souls, and as expected, Game Informer gave this 9/10 game a 6/10 because they were (SPOILER) not good at playing games.

ALSO, I prefer action games over turn based RPGs, despite Final Fantasy turn based games once being my favorite franchise. Now that the latest game is an action game, I don't want to see children covered in blood, so it still misses. Too adult (edgy teen).

7:08 - 7:19 Yes and it hasn't been GOOD since FFX. My favorite series from my childhood has put out garbage for 20 years straight 😆😮💨 I literally just replay old ugly ass games over and over for decades because the studios that birthed these classics want to pander to a different audience.
@ricardodarcangelo2437 Жыл бұрын
Eh, you have a point, as far as "pandering" goes. However, it seems like you're going in the opposite direction with this comment. FF needed to change, for one, and it's not as bad as you are making it out to be. 16 looks amazing in every facet, and maybe trying out different styles of combat/ different genres would be a good change of pace. Regardless, branching out into other kinds of games offers a great deal of memorable experiences. To each their own I suppose, but I'm definitely glad FF changed, and I'm not still playing that same old tired, traditional turn based combat.

From watching the b roll that everyone saw it seems like the hard lock on keeps you locked onto the enemy with YOUR movements not the opponents (if i move behind lock on stays, if you move behind lock on goes away).

I said this on Reddit, but what I think would have been better than just armor kits or outright losing rank, is to bring back the repair zones from AC V's story. You pay a gradually increasing fee with each use to get a dropship to repair you, resupply you, and allow you to change individual parts. Of course, you'd need to clear the area and if you're engaged in combat you can't exactly try and break line of sight and get to the repair area, but you'd still have that repair thing without suddenly just gaining back AP. Or something someone else recommended, the repair drone from Hawken. You have to get yourself clear- in combat or not, and manually power down your mech to allow a drone to repair damage done to you- in the person's recommendation, they said there could be a certain amount of repair charge it has.
@draysmusicalshtposts6340 Жыл бұрын
I've touted the hawken thing a lot but I'm sure I'm not the only one..I think the instaheal definitely leans towards ACs more arcadey Identity, while I and many others prefer it's identity of a almost Mecha sim.
@neloverg3774 Жыл бұрын
@draysmusicalshtposts6340 it's a matter of preference between someone who enjoys playing a mech game, and someone who enjoys playing a person in a mech skin.
@draysmusicalshtposts6340 Жыл бұрын
@@neloverg3774true, but just like Mecha allow for unique forms of movement and combat flow, they present an equal potential for exploring limited and unique forms of healing. Putting players into the mindset that they're operating a machine- a wildly unrealistic one sure, but a machine nonetheless, made for interesting premeditation in previous AC titles. I see how the heal is essential.for long form missions though. It's also, in essence, a instantaneous form of the suggested garage or out of combat heals, esp if it's 3 per mission. I just think it detracts from the mecha fantasy; sim-forward or otherwise. None of this is stopping my hype for 6, rest assured. 10 years was way too long a wait lmao.

About emulation, I don't know if you're aware but rpcs3 actually has a wiki for all the games that can be played on it that includes all the settings you need to change from default for the game to work, and it's usually not much. Actually quite streamlined, so far I've managed to get the original Demon's Souls (btw I do honestly like it more than the remake so far) and AC4 working just fine. Only thing the wiki entries don't tell you is that you should really have v-sync on for everything (it's off by default) because screen tear is extremely common and can be rather severe. Haven't been able to find any such Xenia wiki but I'm sure you can find those settings too on the right forums.

people tend to forget that the core values of FromSoft games are based on King's Field games which was carried over generation from now. It just that the technology ages ago is not ready for the soulslike games today where this core values are striving :)
@rhobidderskag1121 Жыл бұрын
One thing I don’t think people are taking into account: a big reason people want new Armored Core games to be just like the old ones is because it IS A PAIN IN THE ASS to play older entries in the series in present day. These were console exclusive games made for consoles which aren’t produced anymore. Games that now sell for exorbitant prices, sometimes in the thousands of dollars for a copy. It would be different if these games had PC ports or remasters, but some of these ornery players just want to recapture the magic of what specific older titles were like, and not everybody has the patience to fuck with a janky emulator or shell out a thousand bucks for an old console and a price scalped disk. Hopefully as the AC series continues, their release on PC will begin to alleviate this difficulty and the cycle of whining about the next game not being exactly like the last will decrease in its intensity.

1:28:37 @Ratatoskr in the Gameplay Reveal video they showed off last year (13:00 time stamp in GameSpots video) Todd talks about you can land wherever you want on any of the planets, but the UI does not say anything about it’s size. However the planets they show has unit of 0,91g to a moon with 0,58g. IRL the earth has 1g, but in game we don’t know if they have scaled planets down because it might be too wast. 🤔 Love the interview with FC! Been a big fan of his content for about a decade now. Great to see you and other creators having him on to talk about AC and other games. 😁

I've had a discussion with Cowboy and it seems to me the the biggest disclaimer to focused on in discussions with him is that he is primarily an AC5 player. This is not a BAD thing. It's just, as you guys said, the Dark Souls 2 of AC. When someone says they've played AC for decades, they are, at times, purposely excluding 5. 5 is void to them. Don't even mention its mechanics. And this might seem very strange. It is, after all, an AC game as well. Their most recent example at that. But that's what happens when enough people decide a game is "non-canon", so to speak. And I think that's why Cowboy is running into as much friction as he is on his recent videos.

56:17 To clarify here, the West did have a mech game that kicked off, It's called "Mechwarrior" and it was also customization heavy gameplay wise. Though it's more slow and methodical "tanks on legs" combat, rather than super human fast mechs that japan likes to imagine. Loved this podcast and like the level-headedness you shared and the sentiment that I agree with on armored core 6. I'd love to hear you guys chat more as more info is released.

Regarding GOTY, I've been saying since last year that TOTK would not win the award, because the sequel doesn't have the same impact on the industry as BOTW did, even though TOTK is absolutely amazing and deserves that title. What I've been saying (and strongly hoping for) is that FFXVI would grab it. Yoshi P and his team have my absolute trust, they've been showing good things after good things for the game, and the demo solidifies that. I won't be able to play it for a while because I don't own a PS5, but...I almost sure FFXVI will be goty, and will bring back Final Fantasy to its past glory. I'll even go as far as saying it might influence how Square approaches future Final Fantasy game development schedule.

The issue wasn't the way AC 5 and Verdict day played imo, the issue was the way the games were handled. People grew custom of course to AC4 and AC For Answers with the way the mechs were handled, but the issue was not the slower game play, that in itself was totally okay. The issue started with marketing itself, followed by AC5 being somewhat more PvP focused than the previous games,were it was merely a side thing, but still loved by many. They region locked the game for some reason, meaning EU could only play with EU, NA with NA and so on. AC4 and ACFA, the previous two games, you could play with everybody from across the globe, and for its time, while not perfect of course, had a pretty good online multiplayer, it even had Coop for missions. They effectively cut the amount of people down to less than 50% for every Continent. Online play was empty, like a desert, always the same 3-4 people in ranked, normal multiplayer wasn't even played really. The big multiplayer mode "Conquest" were you fight with your mates in a Clan for control over places of the world map was null and void, people offline raided enemy bases, avoiding the PvP aspec tcompletely. And one of the biggest sin they did was "lack of mech diversity". the game for a few weeks after release had a massive issue with balance of items, Japan got the patch first that rebalanced weapons and other mech parts quickly but EU was one of the last to get it, making nealry 80% of body parts, weapons and tools obsolete. Every mech used pretty much the same parts, the same weapons, because using other weapons was basically pointless. Theys fixed it eventually and things got better thankfully, but the balance was not enough to get everybody back on board, the game was basically dead shortly after. The sequel to AC5, AC Verdict Day, was basically almost unnoticed, die hard fans of the community did not pay much attention to it and even though it fixed a lot of problems AC5 had, especially the Region lock removal wich was a good thing so that you could match with people across the globe again, did not help to bring back AC in the spotlight. it has been ten years since then, and we finally get a new AC Game, and as much as i look forward to the game, and from what ive seen it seems that the game goes back to its roots with story and the way the game functions, heck they even used a lot of the movement techs from AC4 and AC For Answer that people loved for AC6, i stil did not forget the blunder that was unfortunately AC5 and Verdict day. AC6 looks promising but i will be careful not to judge too early.
