Knowing that the 180 degree turn is an input is a great piece of information. It means two things. 1) Lock can be broken, that swivel wasn't automatic. 2) Whoever was playing that demo was too fuckin smooth for their own good. Because they made it look effortless and automatic.

What the devs seem to be stressing in regard to the heals is the fact that, instead of guaranteeing a larger effective health pool, you have to pick and choose when the best situation to use them is. There's a decision-making and strategizing matrix associated with having limited healing charges that isn't there when you just have a larger flat hp pool, because heals can be wasted. Cowboy brings up 50k hp with 3 full heals is 200k ehp, *if the heals are timed perfectly*. You are not gonna be able to always time heals perfectly. You are not going to be able to perfectly efficiently use heals at all times. Not every enemy and not every attack drops you to exactly 1 hp before they kill you. Sometimes you're gonna have to use an inefficient heal right now so that you don't die to whatever comes next. That kind of strategizing hasn't really ever been there in Armored Core, but it is just generally usually good game design for difficulty-focused action games, and I'm not upset to see it being used here. Planning out when to use and when to hold onto a healing item is just another piece of skill expression, after all.

imo the full heals are not necessarily a problem if enemies can still down you 20-50 percent of your health in one attack like in AC4FA or AC5VD. if anything it encourages more decision making "Oh i still have my 30% HP left, but I know this boss has that one attack that can instantly take out more of that 30 percent HP, do I heal now to full health and waste that 30 percent HP? or do I delay to take the boss's weaker/chip attack , but risk getting one shotted before I can spend my heals?" , if anything it's not casual at all, it's an extra resource you have to manage compared to older games.

I don't understand why all those new mechanics are hated by even a small part of people. Many old AC missions can be completed in 1-3 minutes and have 1 little objective. It will be weird if you need any additional heals for such short missions. Also, what is so casual in changing the build for the boss fight? We were doing it all time - in old gens, we have a mission to defeat the boss, prior to this, we change your AC and then fight the boss. It is the same in AC6, despite the fact that all missions of the chapter are glued together by checkpoints.
@rexsybimatrimawahyu3292

Agree to this. I have a feeling that AC VI missions will have the same length like Ace Combat missions, like 8-15 minutes per mission and it's necessary for FromSoft to add those repair mechanic into the game to balance out missions. There is always a developer reasoning in building games like this

I think the planets in Starfield are going to be very similar to No Man's Sky, but with more variety and terrain since this is a much newer game. NMS has planets that are functionally real life size planets, like thousands of actual km across. I think they will have a buffed version of Skyrims procedural quest system, and probably have a bunch of side objectives like exploring and scanning to complete, but mostly I think they will be empty space. A place to farm resources or a sandbox environment to create stuff in. I think there will be a handful of curated planets that will feel like handcrafted locations like previous Bethesda games, but probably not more than 10-12. I'm totally ok with thousands of barren planets though because its just a blank canvas to do anything you want. I cannot wait for modders to get their hands on this game.

You forgot to add that it's also gonna be buggy as hell and they'll leave it to the modders to fix every bug in the game.😂 All jokes aside excited for this game since I really enjoyed playing NMS.

From the sounds of it. Ive played more Armored Core than these two combined. Im in full agreement. Who cares if it is souls like. There are souls mechanics that would work well in AC titles and to those that hate to admit it, the AC games needed deeper refinement. If they didnt then more people now wouldnt be like "Armored Core 6... there were 5 previous games(in truth 15total)?". So as a veteran raven, I welcome the changes as i can tell they are for the better and will help pull the AC games out of the niche/cult category.

Have AC2 to ACFA, played AC1 when I was a kid and my cousin had it. The drama about the game annoys me. I just want a fun AC game the mechanics don't matter as long as they make the experience fun. I feel social media has ruined video games... I just hope balancing for PVP doesn't ruin the PVE experience. I hope they keep optional Regulation file system from ACFA.

@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Refills in MH shouldn't be free. In my ideal MH. Refills are limited and you have to unlock it first on a map by map basis. You also have to upgrade it multiple times to max out how much you can refill. And even then, you're still limited in what you can refill. At max upgrades: For items, you can only bring 10 full stacks of extra item types. (10 extra mega potions, 2 extra max potions, 1 extra ancient potion, 60 lv1 piercing shells, etc) For weapons, you can only bring 3 of any type. For armor, you can only bring 3 of each type of armor equalling to 3 full armor sets. For AC. Well, I only played up to the early game of Verdict Day. But "refill" mechanics that make sense to me in my limited experience with Armored Core should also cost the player resources, time, and be limited. Maybe steal ammo and energy off enemy supply depots. Use enemy auto repair bays to refill your AP. Buy parts for your AC to increase its ammo capacity. Take over an outpost or clear an LZ and pay your employer to airdrop a new weapon, extra ammo, or bring in a 2nd fully built AC to swap to.

The problem with lock on, for me, is the automatic turning to face, even at acute angles. You might say "trust From" but even then, Monster Hunter has better combat than any From game, and a big part of that is how its lock on system works.
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 Жыл бұрын
Played MH since 2008. The constant lock on in MH starting from World isn't even a lock on. Its just the camera following the monster. You still need to actively control your hunter's positioning and aim their weapon to hit the monster. From what I've seen of AC6, the lock on makes your AC automatically and *_very quickly_* point its front towards the target at all times.

It's just a simplified term, instead of saying Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Elden Ring Camera type, we just call it Souls camera. Obviously, that Action RPG camera type started from the 90's games.
@devastatheseeker9967
@devastatheseeker9967 Жыл бұрын
@@inixi8ocelot it's not just a simplified term. People call sekiro a souls like when it has no similarities to a souls game beyond the surface level. Even though Miyazaki himself said it is not a soulslike people still call sekiro "one of the souls games" because it's a relatively difficult 3d action game with lockon and a health potion that refills at checkpoints that respawn enemies. I've even seen people say that level design is part of what makes a game a soulslike which is just absurd. I've given up trying to make people understand what makes something a soulslike because most people just seem to not understand that soulslike as a genre is about game mechanics above all else. Soulslike = action rpg with a level up currency lost upon death that is reclaimable in some way from where you died. It can be stupidly easy with dogshit level design and it will still be soulslike. Just like how Sekiro is a great game, that has very good level design and difficulty but is not a soulslike at all.

@@devastatheseeker9967 That is something we are all aware of. Its recent Fromsoftware games are what I'm comparing it to. Back on topic, if you watch the gameplay again, the scene where the AC first land, then camera turn, then AC turn, the camera and movement controls are the same as in Elden Ring; Left Stick is for movement and turning of your AC if Hard Lock-on is turned off - Right Stick is for camera turning if Hard Lock-on is turned off as well. If there are no Turning Speed Stats in the Garage, this could be the case.

So I just wanted to point a few things out before finishing video, but the take on lock on from cowboy was on the money, I mean as a player of previous titles 2 & 4Answer have my heart. But boost 180 quick turn was always a manual mechanic in 4A. Turning speed was also always a major thing in 4-4A, hence learning quick turn was a must. I welcome the changes except for the mid mission respect, but I think I'll learn to enjoy it with time, just like verdict day which again y'all we're right and I hated it at first. I think these manual to auto mechanic updates will help some veteran players and new players to the franchise. Plus it will also add more players due to a slightly easier entry curve. I mean let's be honest, AC in it's original mechanics form is off putting due to its complexity and high skill level. I want to add a comment on the condensing of parts and stat screen but since I haven't fully finished watching this video as of yet and I haven't seen an actual full deep dive breakdown of anything yet also no hands on experience, I'll hold off for now. I will say due to this franchise being my favorite franchise and genre I welcome it all the while stalking my pre order😂 waiting for the fun and excitement of being able to build again with this new entry. The madness I'm gonna make, and I can fire all weapons at once now. What?... Do people not understand the crazy fromsoft is about to let loose? Piloting mechanics needed help in my opinion to keep up with combatting all the fuckery that's fitting to go on.. Watched more and I'd definitely welcome co-op and invasions

This was a surprise even though It also kinda wasn't. Good podcast, though, hearing both of you talk about AC was great and Cowboy actually did change my mind about my concerns over hard-lock and repair packs. Mostly anyways. I wasn't super _against_ the mechanics, but just unsure, airing on the side of skepticism while being hopeful of their implementation. But after today I am more optimistic than before. Which I try to be as optimistic as I can about things in general, because that feels a hell of a lot better than the opposite. And I have renewed my trust in From to make AC 6 the best it can-- not that I doubted them really, I was never not excited, but I really just can't wait. Also, I didn't watch the Starfield direct because I just didn't have much interest based on previous footage, but after hearing both of you talk about it I think I need to go back and watch it because it sounds like my kind of game. Not that I'll necessarily get it, but that at this moment it's on my radar and if the direct gives me a good impression then I may very well play a Bethesda game for the first time in who knows how long. One more thing; I desperately wish I had a PS5 after hearing all this talk about Final Fantasy 16's demo. There's now a few games I would get a PS5 for (which for the last two years was literally only Ratchet and Clank RA (which is coming to Steam) and maybe Demon's Souls just cause that's it) including FF7 Rebirth which is less than a year away assuming no big delay. But god dammit I wanna play FF 16 so bad and now I'll have to avoid spoilers for who knows how many months until I can _maybe_ get one. I've seen PS5's in the wild, which is nice, so when I get a chance I won't have to play the game of having to snag one before a bot does.

The only way a game can be a “souls like” is if it matches the progression of a souls game. The main elements I’m talking about is bonfires, progressing through levels with enemies you have to kill, that respawn when you rest, and a boss at the end of the level behind a fog gate that blocks your progression. That’s the main thing when I think of the dark souls formula. For that reason I consider Sekiro a souls like.
@rhobidderskag1121

One thing I don’t think people are taking into account: a big reason people want new Armored Core games to be just like the old ones is because it IS A PAIN IN THE ASS to play older entries in the series in present day. These were console exclusive games made for consoles which aren’t produced anymore. Games that now sell for exorbitant prices, sometimes in the thousands of dollars for a copy. It would be different if these games had PC ports or remasters, but some of these ornery players just want to recapture the magic of what specific older titles were like, and not everybody has the patience to fuck with a janky emulator or shell out a thousand bucks for an old console and a price scalped disk. Hopefully as the AC series continues, their release on PC will begin to alleviate this difficulty and the cycle of whining about the next game not being exactly like the last will decrease in its intensity.

I've had a discussion with Cowboy and it seems to me the the biggest disclaimer to focused on in discussions with him is that he is primarily an AC5 player. This is not a BAD thing. It's just, as you guys said, the Dark Souls 2 of AC. When someone says they've played AC for decades, they are, at times, purposely excluding 5. 5 is void to them. Don't even mention its mechanics. And this might seem very strange. It is, after all, an AC game as well. Their most recent example at that. But that's what happens when enough people decide a game is "non-canon", so to speak. And I think that's why Cowboy is running into as much friction as he is on his recent videos.

Regarding GOTY, I've been saying since last year that TOTK would not win the award, because the sequel doesn't have the same impact on the industry as BOTW did, even though TOTK is absolutely amazing and deserves that title. What I've been saying (and strongly hoping for) is that FFXVI would grab it. Yoshi P and his team have my absolute trust, they've been showing good things after good things for the game, and the demo solidifies that. I won't be able to play it for a while because I don't own a PS5, but...I almost sure FFXVI will be goty, and will bring back Final Fantasy to its past glory. I'll even go as far as saying it might influence how Square approaches future Final Fantasy game development schedule.

In regards to what you where saying about people who say "not my final fantasy" in regards to FF XVI I can't speak for other people, but when I say this it is also as someone who feels Final Fantasy hasn't been Final Fantasy since FF X. I say it with frustration because I feel like each new final fantasy gets further and further from what I want from a numbered final fantasy, which is an incredibly high budget JRPG with turn based/command based combat. There currently isn't really anything in the modern JRPG genre that operates in that same space as Final Fantasy 7-10. I am sure I will love FF XVI on it's own marits, but it seems like a character action game, and that just isn't what I ever wanted from a numbered final fantasy.

@@Dracobyte 12 is essentially Vagrant Story 2. And 14 is an MMO with a final fantasy skin. (from a gameplay perspective) Of the last 5 numbered games, 13's gameplay has the most in common with the first 10 games. When I talk about what Final Fantasy was from a gameplay standpoint, I am talking about what the series was for 15 years. A party based JRPG where you travel between different towns and dungeons, where encountering enemies brings you to a combat screen that is either turn based or ATB (which is basically turn base with extra steps)

@@Dracobyte the 7 remake games are action RPGs. ATB is a meter mechanic there for special moves, not a turn order system for a command based game like in classic final fantasy. I am not saying none of these games are good, I am saying they don't feel like a numbered final fantasy game, and all of them should have been spinoffs or a sub series

Great podcast. I wonder if they will balance out the ability change builds before a boss fight. I could see if they raised the difficulty in each section, i.e. clearing, boss fight, but that would force you to change builds instead of sticking with what you like. If they instead put a difficulty slider before each mission with their own rewards could help with this possible issue.

I’m wondering if maybe they developed the game around these “new” mechanics like since there’s a hard lock on maybe it’s not always a good thing to use and can actually be a detriment to the player, imagine you’re hard locked onto an enemy but you have a swarm of other enemies attacking you from behind and the sides so you probably shouldn’t focus that one enemy at that moment and the game will reward the players that realize this by using the traditional lock system and taking advantage of that but hey that’s a big stretch coming from this indy game studio right?

No Man's Sky is insanely massive. you absolutely couldn't "explore it all" and NMS is 100x bigger than Starfield. NMS is so big that literally every human on earth could not explore it if we spent every hour of every day. If NMS decided to cut out 90% of systems and planets to make the 10% more detailed it would still be very difficult to fully explore. Oh and you can play NMS on multiple consoles. I'm hoping Starfield's customization and roleplay is what seals the deal.

Just a random viewer , sorry but i was not able to continue listening to Fightin Cowboy arguments -look at sekiro hate -look at Elden ring hate -the hate is unwaranted Motherfunker, we are now talking about a game even before Dark Souls , who had a unique mecha mehnanics who got mixed with its latest sucess mechanics from souls games that imedieatly is noticed by old school AC fans , Armored Core should not be Armored Souls cause it will bring them more cash , as it looks like its more mainstreamed then sticking to original AC mechanics , its a literal downgrade in gameplay.

Even with that kinda argurment, we have seen this exact reaction to a new armored core game when 4, 4a, 5, VD were released back in the day. An average viewer looks at ac3, ac4a, ac5, ac6 can't even tell if it's in the same series so don't acting like Armored core always has this one unique style of gameplay. His point is that we don't know what we're talking about until we experience it ourself. You, me and many other don't know how the game works exactly and we're always jumping to conclusion everytime Fromsoft cooking something.

6:55 You can say that about Sekiro, but it's very disingenuous. Sekiro was a whole new ip. AC is established and has an established formula. Naturally, people will be skeptical. I'm open to change and obviously wouldn't want a 20 year old formula for AC6, however, some of the new things, mostly locking on, really do put a damper on my excitement. Hitting ACs that were zipping around while free aiming or locking 4 missles on fast targets not inly took som skill but was SO satisfying. I was expecting iteration by improving the series in new ways that fit with it, not bringing things in from souls games. I think that the game will still be great and I am still excited, just not as much as I might have been.

When Fighting Cowboy said that people were dooming about Sekiro, but when it came out it sold very well, um... so what? A lot of souls fans didn't buy Sekiro, or were disappointed by it. It's like he thinks that none of those players played Sekiro and decided: "I was right, this isn't the game I wanted." He's assuming that these players somehow don't know their own taste

Still, people should understand every game isn't going to be for them, and that Fromsoftware is better off trying unique things like deflect-based combat rather than being creatively bankrupt. At this point, I think Souls fans should feel assured that Fromsoft will always have a fantasy action-rpg with i-frame dodging in development, so if they are developing another game there's no reason to doom-post (I still remember reading posts saying the resurrection mechanic was Fromsoft going casual). I wasn't particularly interested in Deracine, but I never posted about it. Also, I feel like it's more an inditement on people's taste in games being incredibly narrow if a Souls fan can't at least extract some elements they like out of Sekiro.
