Ace Hardlight was a pretty major character In Ratchet Deadlocked. He's been the highest ranked contestant until Ratchet defeated him. How was he driven towards Dreadzone? What was his story? Let's have a look.

I think Ace came across dreadzone station after he left from the traumatic experience of having his orphant planet blown up. I also think that Ace were struck with uncontrollable rage that he wanted to take out on anything he come by so he directly went to the shadow sector where outlaws were easy to come by. He then were meet with dreadzone station and landed, he fought a lot of robot gladiators used in the games till he were overwelmed and escorted to Vox who were happily suprice to have an alone hero arrive at his station that he could corrupt. The conversation between the two maybe would go something like this: Vox - Well, well... The real Ace Hardlight at my station? What an honor Ace - Are you the one running this toy factory? *he looking right and left at the robots who escorted him there* Vox - This station my boy is called dreadzone and is the farthest thing you can come a toy factory out in this corner of the galaxy. At this station we produce the best quality tv in the whole galaxy that well leave the audience speechless and craving more. Ace - People wanna see these? Vox - Yes, there is nothing better than good old fashion gladiator slaughter and if you want you could be the main event today, what do you say? Ace - Bring your entire toy box, there is nothing you got that would manage to stop me Vox - That's a deal, *turning to the escorting robots* take him to the main arena and give him back his gun as well as a new set of armor *Ace shoved by the bots to start moving away down to the arena* Escorting Bot 1: Understod! Ace Hardlight is to be escorted to the main arena for combat exercise Vox - *chuckle* I don't only got mechanical toys at my disposal boy *Vox presses a button at his desk monitor* bring out any new catch we have caught and release them at the same arena as our new guest and don't forget those new collars, they are important. The Arena Down at the arena Ace notice the massive crowds cheering for him coming down, he starts blasting bots left and right while the crowd just going wilder. Vox over loudspeakers: Ace Hardlight everyone, what raw skill that we are blessed to bear witness to but now it's time to bring in a real challenge in form of (random hero name)!! Ace - What!? I'm not fighting another hero Random hero - I'm sorry for this but I wanna live, AAAAAAAAAH!!! *start shooting at Ace* Ace - Hey calm down, I'm not gonna hurt you alright? Random Hero - Than stand still and die, it's either you or me The random hero starts coming close to where Ace is taking cover and right when he looks around the corner Ace aren't there anymore. Ace - Hands up! *Ace pointing his gun at the hero from behind* The random hero holds up his hands and slowly starts to turn around to face Ace. Random Hero: I can't, I'll die *fast pulls his gun at Ace* *Gunshot* The random hero falls to the ground dead, with Ace in shock. After a few seconds of silence the sound of the audience cheering at the top of their lungs can be heard all around Ace. Later at Gleeman Vox's office Vox - You did great, no fantastic, no better... You did a heroic display of skill and bravado Ace - I killed a man... What have I done!? Vox - You did the galaxy a favor that was what you did, we have no need for old heros who only wanna save their own hides. What the galaxy need is a hero who is willing to do anything for the people, make them all witness the greatness of Ace Hardlight as he bring down all the false heros in the whole galaxy, how that sound? Ace - I'm still a hero? Vox - Yes and we will show everyone live at every home how you stood up against them all, trust me, people are gonna adore you and we are gonna make a fortune on Ace Hardlight products (At this point Ace is too emotionally scarred to see the reality that he killed an other man and now believe it's justice to kill other heroes). Well this all ended up as a fanfic pretty much, I didn't think I would get so invested in writhing this but I'm happy I did. P.S. Both Ace and the random hero had collars if you didn't get it.

It didn't sound too far fetched. The Failure to save someone or something you love can affect people in many different ways. In this case, Ace was so mad at himself for failing to stop the perpetrators, he began to take his anger out on every outlaw he could find just like you said. I think Vox removed Ace's collar, eventually. Possibly after partaking in this survival game for years made Ace disillusioned from being a hero and trying to survive. He then took a liking to killing heroes just for fun. He believed that Dreadzone was his purpose and didn't want to leave. Thus, Vox saw no reason to keep him on a leash.

I always interpreted Ace's situation and his warning to Ratchet to be something like this: Ace DID get kidnapped and brought to Dread zone, but VERY quickly started settling into his new life. Maybe at first he was just doing it for survival but found he was rather good at it or just found it more... let's say satisfying? Remember when Ratchet was first brought to Dread Zone? First he wasn't too pleased and shortly there after he talked about how he "Always wondered what it would be like to be a professional gladiator! I mean these guys have the LIFE! The Fame, the Money, the Babes~!" Despite his enthusiasm not lasting for long this DID show that Ratchet had potential to be swayed by the action filled life of a gladiator, and I feel like by showing this in Ratchet + Aces warning and Ratchets insistence that Ace was once a hero it was in a way supposed to tell us who Ace was by telling us who Ratchet is at that time, allowing them to be two similar people from similar situations only to take two different paths (Ace gave into not just Gleeman Vox, but the hero killing lifestyle of a gladiator, while Ratchet refused to sell out to Vox and keep his moral compass pointing north.) As for why some of the contestants have collars while others don't: I imagine the heroes at the end already had their collars removed by Clank or Al off screen as we do see Clank IMMEDIATELY remove Ratchets and throw it out into space to explode, they probably weren't messing around and removing them asap on everyone. For the other contestants like Ace and Captain Starshield, well with Ace we already covered that he grew to like his life style as a gladiator, Vox prolly only uses them on new fighters until he gets a feel for if they're going to run/keep fighting their new life vs just... give in. Maybe he breaks them down emotionally with fight after fight. Maybe what starts as survival eventually ends with one hero killing another and Gleeman convinces them that they're a hero killer now, even if they left Dread Zone they've already murdered a fellow hero. A good guy. On live television. Will society accept them again? What life do they have now? Why not just... stay? Keep fighting? Be Appreciated for entertaining others? Be admired by fans? Be wanted by ladies/Guys? Be rich? As for Starshield not having a collar... I think it was just an oversight BUT if we roll with it, we see him showing off, spinning his gun and blowing the smoke, basically making a show for the camera. What if Vox had already gotten to him? Maybe not to the same degree as Ace or what he tried with Ratchet, but realized that Starshield wasn't going to run. He was settling right into Gladiator life and Vox's hands so why waste a collar? Maybe that was part of a manipulation attempt? Like "I know he's not going to leave so I'm going to make a big show of 'freeing' him of his collar so he thinks he has a choice in the matter!" way. I didn't know that Ace had a proper backstory! Honestly I don't know how much I trust info that is exclusive to strategy guides because there had been plenty of examples where they just made stuff up, but I suppose that unless Insomniac touches on it with something more solidly canon media we can call it a solid 50/50 on if people want to consider that canon. It's DEFINITELY a narrativley interesting backstory and would meld well into what I said above. He was an orphan, got adopt by bumbling heroes, became the most hero-ish hero, they accidentally blow up his home planet, he splits off in anger, gets kidnapped by Vox, Vox tells him there are no REAL TRUE Heroes, they're ALL fame-seekers (He was adopted to make their image look better, maybe even his own PARENTS couldn't feel like heroes to him because they sent him away to an orphanage?), Vox runs him down through Dread zone wearing him down and he starts LIKING taking his frustration out on other heroes, Vox offers him a deal to be his right hand man gladiator guy. If you wanna make it REALLY dark what if towards the end of Ace's stay as a captive fighter on Dread Zone, Vox manages to arrange the kidnapping of the other Sonic 6 and throws them into the Arena with Ace as a 'gift'. A chance to 'avenge' Bolden 3 and to show the whole arena what Ace Hardlight is willing to do to win. To show his old 'Family' what he thinks of 'Heroes'. Ace is a hero killing exterminator to Vox on live tv, perhaps he has nobody on the outside to return to, no home, no family... because they blew up his 'home'... so he showed them the same courtesy in the arena... and Vox got his star gladiator. Sorry for the long comment. Deadlocked is not my absolute FAVORITE game in the Ratchet and Clank series but it has so much untapped potential for stories! While most games have him helping maybe a town on a dozen planets, Deadlocked has one setting: Dreadzone, a much smaller and more intimate setting for the story, in much closer quarters where a lot of the plot could be told through character interactions. I sort of wish that there were more fan fictions out there set during Deadlocked... there's so much potential for stories that I don't think insomniac will return to...

I pretty much agree wholeheartedly. I also thought about Vox manipulating Ace by kidnapping the Sonic 6 and allowing Ace to get revenge, and that ultimately breaking him definitely, as he also wouldn't have anywhere else to go, after killing his surrogate family.. Even if he just promised that and he never actually got the Sonic 6 in the arena for Ace to kill, I think that, combined with everything else that happened, could have been enough of a motivation for Ace to stay there voluntarily; and then fame and luxuries got to him.

I sorta hope if insomniac chooses to continue the storyline of the reboot rather than original timeline (Although I prefer if they continued the game storyline personally) I'd hope if they make it to Deadlocked they expand on some elements of the story like that^^

@@hassanghanim3966 It's really hard to say he was kidnapped or not kidnapped on either end of the spectrum actually. Now we have some backstory for him but it's still sort of basic and vague. I'm not saying your perspective is wrong, I just prefer stories that give you a punch to the feels, and the more similar Ace's story is to Ratchets the more impactful the line "Don't let Vox do to you what he did to me!" would be. Personally if he's was just like Qwark but with legit combat skills it makes that line feel like: Ace: "Don't let Vox do to you what he did to me!" Ratchet: "What'd he do to you?" Ace: "Gave me a payed job doing what I love? A platform for my ego?" Which just makes Vox look like 2016 Drek. Love hearing different opinions though!

I join the club within the lore but mostly I like the prison inmates like how they’re being imprisoned like transport or kitchen duty and I also imagine slim Cognito And ace hardlight talking to each other on their way to their positions

Starshield wanted to compete. Like Qwark from first game he probably got bored of being a hero or he infiltrated the place. Collars came in after this guy died maybe from him escaping which is why the collars are not around. I think Ace was taken in and just gave up and decided to stick around. He did warn Ratchet about Vox which is why I think this.

Well, in that he comic, Starshield did receive a distress signal from the Shadow Sector. Either one of the trapped heroes sent it in a desperate attempt to get rescued or it was a fake sent by Vox to lure in new contestants. In any case, Starshield was captured and forced to compete. I do believe he might have taken advantage of his captivity and played along in order to find a way to free all the heroes and take down Dreadzone from the inside once and for all. But fate had other ideas. Personally, I think Vox had those collars made from Day One. He knows some of these heroes have superpowers and have him surrounded 1,000 to 1. Thus, he built those collars to put them in check.

Plausible. Maybe after Ratchet beat Ace, Vox gave him the boot. Then Ace left the Shadow Sector and found the nearest police station to himself in.

I’m going to theorize that the Sonic 6 got arrested after blowing up TWO planets, and maybe Ace escaped persecution and went straight to Vox. Ace would’ve been in a ‘between a rock and a hard place’ situation where he either fights for Dreadzone or gets locked up for life.

I think Ace was kidnapped like everyone else but as time went on he developed stockholm syndrome as a coping mechanism so it started to become fun for him + later getting freedom to not wear a collar with the fame and money.

I've always LOVED Ace! He and Voxx really made Gladiator to me. Back at the PS2 era, I've always thought he really died after his defeat against Ratchet. And it made me quite sad. I loved how he was that handsome cocky dude who knew he was the best and enjoyed his status of being the #1 Dreadzone superstar. And I really think his defeat at the hands of Ratchet really made him realise the errors of his way, and how he could have been recognized as a true memorable hero if he had chosen a lighter, more honorable path like Ratchet did, instead of just being a marketing product Voxx just tosses when expired. I believe he saw in Ratchet what he could have become, and that his advice to our favorite lombax was really coming from the heart. Now I'm glad the Future saga stated he is still alive, although I wish we'd see him backing a come back. He would be a great ally, and I already laugh imagining narcissistic dialogues and interactions between Ace and Qwark. Maybe some day...

Both of them joined forces with evil people to achieve their goals. Drek for Qwark. Vox for Ace. Both of them eventually learned the error of their ways after being defeated. Although, in Qwark's case, it took two defeats.

Okay I'm back after watching this video. And I didn't even know of Ace's backstory (of course that's probably because I don't use or ever get the Prima guidebooks) or that he was even mentioned and alive in the Future series. But my comment in your last Ratchet video where I had an idea for a final main series game. Well I could see him being included in that idea, with a new story to the character and how he'd become a hero again. But they'd have to somehow explain the gap between Deadlocked and the Future Saga. Anyways VIVI another great video as always and keep up the good work.

I just think that Angela was a failed attempt at giving a love interest to Ratchet. Maybe they thought they had to be the same species to go along. If only she came back in UYA for more answers, but insomniac realised they messed up with that character and tried to erase her existance.

Insomniac later confirmed in and out of canon that Female Lombaxes don't have tails. But with the introduction of Rivet, a Female Lombax WITH a tail, this puts their claim in question. Unless Rivet's an alternate universe Lombax whose anatomy is different from normal one.

0:19 - I think it's possible that he was captured and forced to compete at first but as time went on, he started to grow more addicted to the thrill of killing innocents and fame. 1:25 - I'm pretty sure it was the same case for Start Shield since they were both heroes at first but intent on gaining popularity. 3:04 - Again; I'm sure by the time that happened he had grown more used to competing in this show for the sake of fame. Who knows? Maybe a full month could be enough to turn him into a survivor and a 0. Maybe he did end up killing someone there and just couldn't live with it. 3:45 - I was also about to bring that idea up too, maybe that's the case considering he only appeared in that one cutscene, the devs probably didn't think it mattered too much. 4:04 - Do you mean Ace due to this cutscene? Or are you referring to an in-game dialogue somewhere? 4:59 - If by "care" you mean cared for how much profit he was making then in that case yes, he did "care". 6:09 - Yeah, it tells us that Vox is a superior villain to Nefarious! (To me at least). Alongside Drek. 7:33 - I'll agree with that logic. 14:34 - Too bad they didn't reference Angela in that game ... until A Crack In Time. 14:55 - Azimuth didn't it seems. 16:00 - Definitely NOT what he said about him in a bank! 16:03 - Also for some reason it counts as soundtrack for A Crack In Time with the composer being non other then TJ Fixman when I downloaded it onto my phone. 16:30 - Probably had more weapons in store for Ace before cutting them out. 17:08 - Exactly! 18:34 - Always happy to watch.

And I thought Battle Royale is dark. Its dark in its own way but I think this makes me want to check out Deadlocked. I heard so many negative reviews of it but I got to see it for myself. The story looks pretty interesting. That warning feels all too real. I don't know what to say exactly about it but shoot, I think Ace is in that thin line between being good and evil. Like an anti-hero or anti-villain? Something among it? Also, I get why Insomniac would feel confused on the other lombax scale but I am a bit happy since adding a story of another possible lombax would be too much for one game so they saved it for another game. If rebooting other games are considered, why not show him as some Lombax hybrid or a human like character with a bit of lombax traits? Expanding the universe a little more.

Deadlocked is one great game especially in terms of gameplay. Story wise it's not the best in my opinion. Fans in the community overall enjoyed Deadlocked. The reviews were more from journalists, you know comparing it to previous entries. Deadlocked did have a more edgy tone to it, but I liked it :)

Hmm, a design oversite on the collars might be true since the way they reuse assets I guess? Or maybe times might have been different. For Ace killing heroes, maybe he got sick of being a hero and took to the fame or the challenges of dreadzone, maybe saw the TV show on the dark web since its a shadow sector TV show. But then Orxon is a Solana Galaxy planet so how does it change besides the Blarg being gone so its open to be transformed? I know its a reference but for Ratchet universe reasons it is interesting to think about how it was overrun by Vox/Shadow Sector capturing. Do we even know how many seasons Dreadzone got though even? I feel like we don't know that so how look it aired for before the end of the season since obviously the end of the game is the last episode of the season. I think that question might need answering but eh its not that important compared to the rest. It could be many reasons why he chose to. Maybe some blackmailing maybe. Who really knows, any theory is a good theory really.

The universal theorises is a bit much but its interesting to think how much Lombax mentions or hinting besides the PS3/Future saga relevance. Well we know more about how they were putting the universe together but getting stuck surprised me how much they might have put too much together or maybe run out of ideas, or were going too much off their inspiration of the running man. Ok I have my own theories with Ace. For one in the part where you mention his backstory while i do believe that Vox kinda misdirected Ace for his own gains I don't think it was all on Vox. I believe Ace was probably reckless and cold in his youth in the Sonic 7 and that probably might have led to his own adopted planet being destroyed. You have to put his scenario he was adopted as P.R by a group of heroes that blew up another planet he was trained since young to be a super soldier intentionally or not his old Squad probably didn't knew how to raise him and maybe Ace being the hotshot he was he didn't wanted to be the 3rd wheel in the group. My theory on what happened after his squad blew up a planet it's that they all get revoked from hero status and were forced into exile and since Ace was probably in this younger hero mentality he got saddened and frustrated so he left and got into Vox and that time he probably didn't cared about being a hero anymore and just wanted fame. I think with C.Starshield I have 2 theories in both he volunteered to Dreadzone in a attempt to boost up his image and money. In the first scenario they got a agreement that he was going to be for just a tour but Vox decided that it was better for ratings to off him at his last mission so he send Ace ,the other theory it's that he was actually a permanent guest and Vox star and Ace ambushed him to dethrone him and Vox just played along with it for ratings.

@@VtnVivi I could never get all the exterminator cards, because of either 1 last skill point that either won't recognize (on PS2, I think on Ghost Station involving 10 dropships) after completion. Or I need to get the nanotech level up to 200. Either way, I think I unlocked his card, but I didn't read it. Well, except for the most effective mods part.
