Bend, Oregon has several breweries. Most suck. lol Deschutes Brewery, if you stick to the Black Butte Porter and Obsidian Stout, is awesome. Try and get some from Bend. I agree about IPA's. Piss water for yuppies.

Dry means any kind of alcohol that isn't sweet or juicy and sometimes more bitter. Usually used for wine, champagne, cider, brandy, and mead.

The pear cider probably taste the best because it only has 4.5% alcohol, the others are around 5-6% which is almost impossible to have a light taste, you will taste the alcohol. You should try some hard seltzers, my favorite is michelob ultra organic hard seltzers when I don't feel like drinking beer.
