Great episode! I live in the Detroit, Michigan area and we have a large Middle Eastern population, along with lots of amazing restaurants. The older population, early 1900s like my wife's family, is mostly Lebanese/Syrian, so a lot of the food follows those lines. It is interesting to see the similarities and differences in your takeout. "Kebab" here means skewers with chunks of meat. The donner kebab would be similar to the gryo in local Greek restaurants. The ground meat kebabs here are 'shish kafta.' Naan bread you'd only find in an Indian place; thin pita is more typical. Hummus, fattoush (chopped salad), and pickles are usually on the side. If I ever make it to Britain for a visit I'll definitely have to check out some of the local Middle Eastern joints.

Danny, that part flavour is from too much filler being used in the kebabs. The filler is literally a bulking agent made of cereals, rice, stuffings, all of which absorb fluid and add to it's weight. Often the quality of those kebabs is compromised as there will tend to be less meat in them. This is one way that fast food joints can maximise profits by investing in cheaper products.

The donner meat is pre-manufactured & ordered in as you can tell from it being smooth, that will be no different to most other kebab shops. But there are some which stand out that make & prepare there own donner meat such as A Star Shawarma in Levenshulme, Manchester. Its also rare for donner meat to be 100% lamb, often its a mix of lamb, chicken & beef. Xotica Fusion in Worsley is also worth checking out.

I trained at The London Hospital and lived on New Road just off the Whitechapel Road. Whilst we were there a Kebab House on the corner a few yards down the road basically saved us from starvation. The kebabs were out of this world served with salad and pitta bread. Never tasted one as good since then.

If for example, the takeaways supplier of meat is a cash only business, and they’re sue a delivery tomorrow, and they need £500 in cash to buy the next meat delivery, they’re well within their rights to put a cash only sign out for a day if they wish. It’s upto an individual to declare sales weather it be cars or cash and out tax system works on self declaration. Cash is obviously more open to abuse, hence the push for cashless society at the moment, but that is another tale altogether.

This is my local full mixed kebab is the one donner, lamb, chicken tikka, lamb Kobeda it’s actually a shop chain there are 3 shops bury star Oldham star and Cheetham star I’ll get the mixed kebab, meat salad bread and sauce all wrapped separately in foil to stay warm straight home to the sofa to feast!! I live in the US, and what I find to be most interesting is that on any given occasion, you get enough high quality food for 2-3 people for no more than $25. Meanwhile, here in the US, you can’t touch a meal for under $10 unless you’re getting something from a chain fast food restaurant. Stateside, a subpar quality kebab meal for 2 people loaded with mostly rice costs no less than $30.

The basic difference b/w a Roti and Naan is the Yeast.Naan is done with a Yeasty dough and is relatively thick as a result, Roti ,on the other hand is much thinner and done with no yeast dough kneaded freshly.Naan makes a better companion to Oily curries like Kormas and Rogan Josh,where u want the bread to soak in the oil,Roti goes better with Kebabs and other dry foods😇

We go to Oldham star a few times a week it's definitely the best kebab house in the Manchester area the shawarma is awesome the doner is so nice tasting not that dirty greasy doner that a lot of kebab places do the salad is always fresh he should have tried the chicken burger and them Kobeda's are amazing too more importantly Oldham star is a clean takeaway and the staff work really hard to keep the shop that way. They do what they do well and the price is reasonable well done to Oldham star but I'm surprised that Danny didn't give them a solid 10.

Does everyone in the UK refer to vegetables as salad? If so, how do you know when you’re getting an actual salad as opposed to just a side of shredded lettuce/tomato/etc? If I ordered a hamburger and it came with iceberg lettuce, onion, tomato and pickles on the side, I wouldn’t say that I had a hamburger with a salad.

In the UK, any salad item that's chopped up to be eaten as a side, is a salad. You can have a cucumber salad, green leaf salad etc. You'd have vegetables if they've been prepared and cooked with a roast meal or in a pie etc. Going to a kebab shop and ordering a kebab with vegetables would be a bit odd.

In places like the UK and Australia, 'salad' has three slightly different but largely related meanings. 'A salad' refers to a standalone dish, made of the various salad ingredients (lettuce, tomato, carrot, onion, cheese, olives) and ordered as its own thing. @shsh-he5qg they serve top quality food I've been eating there since they started and its amazing. The brisket falls apart it has so much flavour. I've tried most the food and never had any issues. And for the price the meat sweats is 45 that feeds 3 people that's cheap as and you get a bit of everything.

Apparently the driver came from Sheffield and didn't know where he was supposed to go as they used taxi drivers from a company. So been put off from getting anything from them again.

@Raizle they use city grab which a taxi service completely separate from them. No one used city as they are useless in Chesterfield so we go and collect our order. They are open Thursday to Sunday and evenings only. I've been ordering from them from the start I've never had any issues with them. I just pre order on their app and collect my food

I challenge you to eat in the next video something other than kebabs, pizza, burgers, breakfast, wings or fish and chips. There is such a wealth of takeaway options these days and you are eating just the same stuff all the time. I’d like to see you eat sushi, Indian street food, vegan food, Spanish food, Thai food, salads etc. just some variation please!
