2 years on my own. Live in Indiana. Bowed out last week. Rates and freight are horrible! Not worth being out 2 to 3 weeks at time for the rates. Sylectus is getting just as bad on rates!

Your right the only way to learn the ropes is to drive for someone....I drove for 6 months for a courier service with a greedy owner but I learned the ropes and used their business model to get my own customers so 💯 no advice can replace on the job training

I'm an independent contracted with a company running I guess you would call local. Oklahoma City to Wichita and back delivering auto parts. Five stops and back home. $375/day plus fuel surcharge. Well over $1/mile and I'm home every morning and weekends off. That puts me over $100K/year.

@@defenselesslamb I'm in a long wheelbase Sprinter. Most of the drivers are, though there are a few in small 12-16 foot box trucks. The company I am contracted with figures the fuel. They use AAA to get the average for the area and we get a percentage reimbursed back in our paycheck.

For the time being I'm doing route work with a group as a part time thing and to build up my business. It's moving veterinary samples in the evening. It works but you need to be committed.

@@dynamicrainmakers8794 True. Route work is not something one can be flaky on. There are backup drivers available if one needs a day or two off, but abuse it too much and they will cut you. Mine is a night route, which works great for me as I am NOT a morning person.

Right now is not the time to get into the business. Brokers are really cheap right now. Some brokers do not reply even if you bid a dollar a mile. It’s really tight right now.

One way to increase your income is hauling hazmat. You need the Hazmat endorsement on your CDL and check to see how your cargo insurance rate will be effected if you own your own authority. If you can offer this service you can add a premium to you rate, and you can also make sales calls directly to companies who ship hazmat. The demand is there for cargo vans. You cannot haul explosives, radioactive, or poison since you don't have a separate box for cargo. I mostly haul flammable, corrosive, and non flammable gas. I work for a carrier so I'm not familiar with cargo insurance rates. Hazmat doesn't rely on a booming economy. These shipments are needed for the basic supplies across many sectors of industry.

Barrett has changed drastically since myself and Allen ran there . We did a lot of automotive and food freight mixed with general freight. I am not a fan of Bolt every one I knew who ran there left. Solid companies Paxton, Barrett, Load1 and C and M. I ran with Paxton and Barrett myself

When you suggest minimum of "1.00 per mile" Are you talking "All-In miles" or "Loaded Miles" i operate at $1.05 per all-In miles with a 21 cent CPM (of course costs are all in miles) my average pay per loaded miles is over $2. I have a promaster city single pallet cargo van and do courier work gig apps. I avg over 200 miles a day. I am blessed with military retirement and Social security.

I understand what you saying about the rates and the difficult about being OTR. But this is happening in all sectors.. construction in all parts. I am a fedex driver and contractors are taking less and less money.. The thing about ` drive for a fleet first to understand` is... Nobody wants to hire ppl who dsnt have experience, and counts for you too hahaha so.. ppl are going for the business without xp and trying bring the money. I will be one of those but with a looot of search and friend that are in the business for years. I love your chanel, thanks for all the information.

I agree with you that this is happening everywhere. As for hiring someone who has no experience, it is tough for someone with no experience to get a driving position, but not impossible. I myself PREFER someone with experience, but I'm not completely opposed to it either.

I believe those guys working loadboards have no life it’s sad to run for so cheap and give your money away to dispatchers lol crazy.
