Just subbed! I'm a concept artist in the video game industry for 24 years. Been looking into expediting to make extra money and I can relate wholeheartedly to the problem of "low bidders" because I've done contract artwork/freelancing and a lot of the times, you get lowballed because too many artists are willing to work for pennies WHILE whining about how much they're getting lowballed. And I'm like "If you lame bishes stop accepting chitty $$ then these companies will stop lowballing us, you 1di0ts!" Anyhow, that IS frustrating. I went back to fulltime work. But I like learning about this business and thank you and a few other guys like you giving "straight shooter" inside tips on expediting. Much appreciated.

It always takes a little bit of time for the economy to cycle threw the good things and the bad things. Consumer confidence have been jumping up the last couple of months and every body thought (including me) we would be in a recession by now. Currently we haven't and there's still a chance that we might hit one by the end of the year. Now as the bug 3 hasn't been selling cars that much the foreign ones have been. Most of there inventory are at or below normal levels while the US ones been sitting. Although I think that's more due to the fact the US manufacturers had raised there MSRPs by 36% while the foreign ones only raised them by 6%. I also think that there's been a hindrance on the interest rates. Once those go down it might take a couple of years to go down to what they were or close to it you'll see an uptick in freight volumes. No company is borrowing money atm because it's just too expensive right now. Just my thoughts. I think when you have people taking 2 or 3 loads and they take these loads for 50 cents a mile that really hurts the rates. I think more so than the app carriers. The app carriers while cheap they really compete with themselves more so than a traditional carrier. And on that note I think while some carriers bid 50 to 70 cents a mile occasionally I don't think it's as widespread as brokers make it seem. Although it's going to be hard on carriers the next year or so. As for people going out and jumping into the whole getting your own authority. I have no idea why people get there mc. Especially since my cpm is 40 cents a mile and I'm getting 95 cents to a dollar. If your bidding a dollar a mile as a carrier your going to go out of business sooner than later. Even at 1.20 a mile your profit margin is like mine. And I don't deal with the bidding and the higher insurance rates. It just doesn't make any sense to me. As for gas prices there's really not much that this administration can do to lower gas prices any lower. The strategic reserve is at the minimum or close to it. So if something negative happens there's not much they can do. The thing to look for is the OPEC meeting next month or in April. The Saudis have been slowly cutting there production since 2022 and they put themselves in a hard bind because there economy is in recession atm. There's a chance they try to counter our production by starting a price war like they did in 2014. Personally speaking I don't think they're going to do that again but I think they'll keep the same production levels.

@EverythingApax I try to be informed and stay out of the political aspect 😆 those intreast rates will have to come down and those big 3 auto makers need to stop raising those damn prices. Hopefully it sounds like at least with GM and Ford their putting the brakes on evs. As for rates, I still think this year us going to be rough with freight volumes. We still have quite a few carriers and I think we'll see more carriers go out of business. What's going to be intreasting is will we see more brokers go out of business? If we see more of that then there must be a market shift and companies are using carriers more direct and by passing the brokers all together. It might be easier for carriers to gain more private shippers or at least they will be more open to using carriers instead of brokers.

Hang tough in the open market for now, while soliciting direct contracts with shippers within a 500 mile radius of your home base. Find one or two or three to be able to strategically come as close as possible to being able to make round trips without deadheading. Stay signed onto a load board or two to “fill in”, and avoid deadheading. I think this is the ONLY sustainable future for most of us. Rolling the dice 🎲 out here in this overcrowded market is definitely UNSUSTAINABLE for the foreseeable future.
