Your bump steer fix was the correct one! You're learning! That's all that matters with these builds besides having fun, when you get older you be able to become an engineer and all of this will be relevant. Great job!!!!

Ive watched every build on this channel and youve done some cool stuff. But now its kinda getting old. Theres nothing new except chassis design. Nothing wrong with cool chassis design but its the same old motorcycle power plant stuff, most of which has been underpowered requiring special gearing. Also the lack of reverse is unnecessary. Ive been a long time subscriber and am waiting for that next big leap, maybe something seriously off road 4x4 with a v6 transplant from like a toyota or dodge caravan. These motors and trannys can be had for as much as youve paid for the motorcycle engines. A junkyard pulling video would be a cool start to the next build. A smaller version of a rock bouncer with a v6 with 33 inch tires (also from a junkyard) would be stellar and a big boost to your views. Please consider this because I like your style and frame building talent. Thanks.

Easiest way to cut aluminum is with a worm drive skill saw and a Little wd-40 use carbide blades go slow, use hearing protection. Can cut any thickness even 2” if you need to. will work great with little effort and much faster. Also safer to put some 2by 4’s on floor to keep the sheet on. will work much better. set blade just deep enough to penetrate thin sheet don’t let blade hang to low will have better control that way. For nice straight cuts clamp a piece of angle iron for saw to follow. I learned this from an older machinist buddy. Been doing it this way ever since. Hope this helps

Based off of my Traxxas Revo 3.3, which has a cantilever suspension, by changing the length of the cantilever itself doesn't stiffen the suspension, it just gives it more/less travel. In order to actually make it stiffer, you would need to increase the spring rate.

Chris, serious question, do you understand what causes bump steer? Because it seems like, with every vehicle, you just take a guess and hope it works. Things like required steering arm length are not terribly difficult to calculate and measure, if you know how it works. SK2815 has done a handful of videos on suspension geometry, which should be a great help.

@paulbade131
@paulbade131 3 жыл бұрын
@@petemartus8876 If the steering linkage joints don't line up exactly, with the a-arm joints, when cycling through the suspension, the lengths will change, at different rates, pulling or pushing the steering arm. So, when hitting bumps, the wheels will be "steering" in all kinds of crazy ways. When setting it up, you must be able to draw an imaginary line through all three joints on inner and outer arm attachments and steering linkage. All 3 must also be on the same plane also!
@drew657
@drew657 4 жыл бұрын
For the rear suspension, take all the preload out of the spring. Look up how to tune motorcycle suspensions (specifically Dave Moss Tuning) for how to do this. If you take all the preload out of the shock and it's still too stiff, you can pick up a softer spring. RaceTech's website has a tool to look up the spring rate on that shock based on the bike it's on, and you can order a spring from them that's stiffer or softer, depending on what you need.There's lots of videos on KZbin about how to change the spring. Alternatively, you could look for a shock from a bike that has a softer spring rate and order a used one on ebay pretty cheap. Could also do that for the front, but with stiffer springs.

@CameronHarris1986
@CameronHarris1986 4 жыл бұрын
What are you doing for anti roll bar/system? I think you should look at a pull rod/push rod F1 style set up. That way when you corner in this instead of swaying over to one side (which I think may happen with this design) the suspension will be connected, so when one side is compressed the other side will compress also, so the vehicle will be flatter found around corners.

I could be wrong but, I noticed your A-Arm mounting brackets are at an angle which would not allow a "free" movement of the A-Arms as each end would swing in different arc patterns? It seems it would be "free" movement of the brackets were parallel and the A-arm end were angled? I like your work.

Have you thought about those Shocks and where the oil in them is sitting? The shocks when on a motorcycle have the oil in the bottom and when you pump them in and out- the pistons and valving internally squirts the oil thru- creating dampening...... You have them mounted on their side and upside down, so any oil inside is at the top and are they even designed to work like this?
@RDH559
@RDH559 4 жыл бұрын
The rear spring rate looks good as you were standing very close to the pivot point. I'd say the front looks a little soft though. Yours is a single seater and probably lighter than mine. My two seater was just over 1000 lbs. I used a Mustang II coilovers for the front. Watched bloopers while typing. The bigger shocks looked much better on the travel. I'll be following your build. Will you be putting a body on or keep it "naked"?
@nutzy05
@nutzy05 4 жыл бұрын
Looks like you're going to have mad body roll. Maybe a sway bar will do the trick. Also, with the front suspension as soft as it is, if you were to cut that front loop shorter or raise the bottom of it, you'll run into less bottom out issues.
@MrGaryjames1
@MrGaryjames1 4 жыл бұрын
twin tube oil filled dampers dont tend to work to well unless vertical or nearly so as they rely on the oil being in the base of the shock the foot valve that is in the bottom of the damper works rather better with oil rather than air. you will need to upgrade to gas monotube damper such as the koni ohlins or bilstien rather like the ones they use on the atom. ps love the build always wanted to do roughly the same thing but with 4 wheels.crack on.
