I love that you take the time and have enough pride to clean up things before you rebuild them! I get so frustrated watching people tear into things like a carburetor and clean the inside perfectly and rebuild them and then put it together and put it back on all covered in grime!

This is what makes Chris a great fabricator/builder. when he says maybe that was a bad idea. and takes an alternate route to achieve his objective. it shows that he is open minded and flexible. and that really helps when you're a machinist/fabricator and a builder. his skills are commendable, he has really come a long way since he started out building unique motorized vehicles. and I appreciate his dedication and integrity. Hey Chris, love your videos! Your steering isn’t wrong per se, you now have anti-Ackerman/reverse steering which as you said won’t give you as tight of a turning radius, but now you can say your rock crawler has an F1 steering setup!

Great work as always. With my builds…I like to spray all the clean metal after building stuff with weld through primer just so I can put it together and to test it out and not having it get all rusted up but still being able to cut and weld on it without the whole thing rusting. Just an idea:)

To correct the acerman angel. Try to make a correction kit like a bump steer kit if you understand. It must be possible to relocate the baljoint that way. That if you got space in the wheel for it.

Ditch the air shocks and put coilovers with a rear sway bar. It’ll taking care of leaning issue that you we having and they won’t pack up and stay compressed if you drive it aggressive. Still a beast of a project though ;) love it!

If you set the toe angle of the front axle slightly into the negative range and make the tie rod longer, you get the desired effect that the inner wheel steers further than the outer one. Of course you have to calculate the exact angle to get a good result

I would just cut and shut the steering arm on the hub itself and move it outward to get as close to 0 Ackerman as possible. That will still drive better than reverse Ackerman. You can cut brace and weld the knuckles easily enough. We’ve been doing it for years for drift car knuckles and it works a treat. Love to see this build nearly complete. Awesome work as always.

Looks like that diff or right angle gearbox uses sprag or one way clutches to allow differences in wheel speeds. I believe they would allow the outside wheel free wheel and turn faster than the inside wheel... Interesting setup! Similar to how a Detroit Locker functions in a truck/car diff, but much more refined and should be way smoother. I'm so impressed with your fab skills Chris! Why aren't you building race car chassis for big money? You must be employed in fabrication making good money. Maybe think about learning a bit of racing chassis geometry to get a start in drag race or off road race stuff for side money? I worked in the aerospace and automotive engine machining trades before I retired. I always wanted to learn what you're doing. I pointed out ackerman geometry last video. Before I finished my drag race car and fixed the ackerman, pushing it on pavement w/o engine, trans was super easy going straight, but would bind up and stop when turning sharp, even with 2-3 guys pushing. It also had a spool in the rear with 14" wide slicks. That said it made a huge difference in pushing it around after fixing it. It may go mostly unnoticed in your off roader. Most noticeable will be during slow speed tight turning, it may push a little and not turn a sharp as it should.

13:17 it appears you still have some correct Ackerman going on which would lead me to believe the Polaris has very little built in. Your outer tie rods are so incredibly out of alignment with the inners it is adding Ackerman back into the system because of castor changing the effective lengths of the tie rods. Not ideal, since the difference in tie rod length makes either side react differently, but I guess for the application it's not the end of the world.

Your right, you would be surprised how bad the front geometry is on them side by sides. That's why is such a large aftermarket of front ends and suspension. I worked in a performance shop for a while and they show me how bad it is and cost all that money.

Most seals have common sizes. You can get the number off the seal and look on MSC, Granger or McMaster Carr withe the seal number. Most of the time the number will represent the size of the seal. Here in Knoxville I usually go to Signal Industrial and pick them up.

I've been watching since the Grave Ninja days....as he's starting building some bigger projects I've thought it would been cheaper, easier and more reliable to start using more automotive type axles and drive shafts instead of 50'' of chains driving all of the wheels

Hello I love watching your videos I love the fabrication aspect of it, although I may not agree with everything, I think you're a very talented man. There is one thing I would like to mention is that when you get a section completely welded off and everything is attached to it that needs to be how about grab a can of semi-gloss black or satin black or whatever and just paint that stuff. I can't tell you how many times I've watched you finishing up on part of a project and then not paint it. Drives me nuts😫. So just consider it. PLEASE! Keep up the great work , JSW

Watching your 'driving' videos, I've always thought, many of the people who drive those trails have larger vehicles. Those vehicles cut the track to fit to their dimensions, your vehicles are usually smaller, and have less clearance. For this reason you tend to have a harder time with those trails. Hopefully this puts this one closer to those 'common' dimensions.

You should look into checkpoint levels. They aren't cheap. Last time I had one, they had a lifetime warranty. You could intentionally throw it off the top of a 10 story building. "IF" it didn't survive and wasn't accurate, they replaced it free. They just got hated to source locally, and Klien/Milwaukee now n make knock-offs, but the bubbles are reverse of checkpoint and can be bought at Home Depot easy. They also make them for automotive with lazers. And those will break the bank.

should have thrown a coat of primer on the front and rear axle so you don't have to grind all the rust off when you do go to paint. it was right there all ready if those clips don't hold try grooving the female splines

bud... i think its time for a set of episodes where you clean out and upgrade your shop... pull everything out of ur shed, deep clean, insulate for winter and put everything back in reorganized, maybe run some real power to the shed if possible. and do a mini split system you can run while ur filming to keep warm this winter.

Did you ever think about making more groubd clearance since you are using cv axles? You could have made the axle into a banna shape having the diff up higher than you have it currently thus giving more ground clearance for rock crawling. You made a straight axle when you have the opportunity to use the cv axles to your advantage

Umm... 34:00 the front diff actuator cable looks like it was tangling with something and was flapping around... maybe it needs repositioning before it gets ripped out? Other than that... Chris, couldn't you cut a shallower locking groove in each socket of that diff/gearbox with a boring head on your end mill? I believe it would be less likely to break and since that area is already a "dead zone" on the shaft, it shouldn't affect the wear on either part... Either way, kudos on your building ability! This machine's a beast!

It is possible for you to fix the ackermann angle without making custom hubs and without welding and that is to heat up between where the tie rod ends bolt on and the main hub (wouald disassemble the hub first) make sure you have the hub body locked down so it doesn't move heat up where I mentioned so it is glowing hot then using the tie rod end bolt hole and leaver the hole to the position you need (a hammer maybe required to help move it)

Is this something you came up with to put the differential with CVS inside a floating frame axle or is this something other people have used in the past this is a great idea I never even thought about that gets rid of the CV Flex and angle part at the very least
