👋Hi there Dear Don, My friend, another awesome, fun & interesting video shared as always. I've been catching up on all of your videos recently & I've yet to comment on all. As a long term viewer of yours, I don't like missing out on each video, as I think you deserve all the views & I hope more people will like & subscribe to your channel. Rathvilly village is so lovely & such wee & quaint villages, are scattered across many regions in Ireland. Many of my ancestors hail from Co Clare & Co Limerick & they're equally, such pretty & very historical wee towns/villages too. I tend to watch your videos numerous times over, as once just isn't enough! haha A few facts regarding "Rathvilly Village"....In the 5th Century, Crimthan, the King of Leinster, lived in Rathvilly, but I don't know exactly where. I'm sure there'd be a plaque regarding the King of Leinster somewhere in the town. I've yet to visit this part of Ireland, but when I return, I'll certainly check this place out. Also, I've read, that this territory was that of the (Irish) "Uí Felmelda Tuaid, a Uí Cheinnselaig" sept descended from "Feidlimidh son of Enna Ceansalagh & I believe, brother of Crimthan". And finally, the MacKeoghs' family in Rathvilly, were the "chief bards" of the Kings of Leinster, which I find very interesting. Such families scattered across the country held such power & distinction, whether they were loved or loathed, for varying personal reasons. I have to add here, that the weather looked very nice that day. I'm glad you guys are finally getting some warmer, sunnier & drier weather, as I know that it rained a lot earlier this Summer season, across Dublin & many parts of Ireland. Thank you for sharing & I hope this post finds you well. Peace✌

I forgot to add, that Kevin Barry's story is both very interesting & very sad. I know that University College Dublin has exhibitions showcasing moments from Kevin Barry's young life. He was a brave, strong & intelligent young man & his life was cut very short unfortunately. May he RIP.

I sang the song along with you and can also play it on the squeeze box which emigrated with us many many moons ago! Too bad the younger generations are not being taught this history! Another picturesque quiet little village and lovely attached stone homes. ☘️👍💚

There is an iconic pic of Kevin Barry in his black & white hooped Belvedere College rugby jersey. He was a medical student & was hanged in Dublin in 1920. I believe he may have been a native of Rathvilly but as you're thinking, Barry IS a Cork name. Rathvilly is in Co Carlow.
