Oh my god ! It's Leya here, I'm so happy to be in this video and what you said about me warms my heart so much ! I started to study Thai during the first lockdown, but ever since I started University (I'm studying to become a Director of Photography) my free time has lessened and it has become so hard to incorporate Thai Language into my schedule... ! Hopefully I have my Thai penfriend who has helped me a lot to improve my skills through LINE and is so proud of me being in this video ! Thank you so much Paddy for this video and everything on this channel 🙏🙏

As a native Thai, I'd like to say thank you to everyone for your interest in learning Thai language. Everyone doing such a great job speaking Thai. Wish you all the best in your learning journey. 4:00 Jen and Paddy, if you allow me I'd probably say it this way "ฉันอยากรู้ว่าภาษาไทยของฉันเป็นอย่างไรในความคิด (หรือในสายตา) ของคุณ". And last, Em your Thai is very impressive. You sounded like Native Thai, tbh. Hopefully you'll fall in love with Thailand even more when you have a chance to visit Thailand one day. Cheers!

Wow! I am very impressed with everyone on this video. As a Thai person, I am extremely proud to see my mother tongue is being learned and spoken all over the world. Paddy did ask for a Thai speaker to chime in on one of Jen's sentences, "I am interested in knowing what you (Paddy) think of my Thai". I would use the word "อยากรู้" instead of "สนใจ" in that context. So, the sentence would be "อยากรู้จังเลยว่าแพดดี้คิดว่าภาษาไทยของฉันเป็นยังไง" 🇹🇭 👍

Here's my input from the pov of a local, native Thai speaker (just my opinion and I could be wrong 🤷‍♂️): 4:42 - She could say "ฉันอยากรู้ความคิดเห็นของแพดดี้มากๆ" but personally I probably wouldn't have said that, and instead said something like จะรอดูว่าแพดดี้ว่าไง (I'm looking forward to hearing back from Paddy) 5:10 - hmm I'm not sure about this but maybe he could've shortened it to "สิบ สิบเอ็ด 8:36 - Most of my friends who study film would just say เรียนนิเทศ (คณะนิเทศศาสตร์ communication arts) which is a lot more common from what I've heard I get that Em is just trying to be polite but there's no need for that many ครับ's lol. You could also tell how similar the asean countries' languages are from the way he talks and I'm really impressed ps. is it just me or does it look like Paddy is tryna be a DJ when he is correcting their tone and pronunciation....

@Dave Gilmour Thanks a lot! I appreciate it, but I went to an International school in Thailand as a kid so my English had to be at a decent level as it was the primary language spoken 😂. However I have some friends who go/went to pure Thai schools, and from what I've seen, the amount of English taught has increased quite a bit; leading to a better level of English from Thai students in general. Recently, it has also been more competitive to get into universities in places like Thailand, US, UK, Australia etc as more Thai students look to study abroad, resulting in more Thais doing standardized proficiency tests such as SAT, ACT, toefls, and ielts. With social media, westernization, and tourism also being influencing factors, I'd say that the level of English spoken in the current generation has gradually improved compared to (for example) but my parents' generation. So I think there was just a lack of education and exposure in the past.

4:30 สนใจ (interested) This is a formal word either in thai or english. In thai, we normally use this word in writing or to describe a second or third person's interest. Like เขาสนใจหนังเรื่องนี้ "He's interested in this movie." เขาสนใจเรื่องศิลปะ "He's interested in arts." You may use it to describe your own interest when speaking but it will turn the sentence to a very formal sentence. The more fitting word and more common to use when speaking would be อยาก (want). อยากรู้ "want to know" อยากดู "want to see". So she should be saying "ฉันอยากรู้ว่าแพ็ดดี้คิดอย่างไร..." "I want to know what will Paddy think..." Learning thai is not easy since the school tend to teach you only the most formal way of speaking since it sounds more polite. Same goes for english tough, no school would teach you "Yo, dude, wassup" on your first day. Anyway, the only way to improve is to practice and listen to what other people say.

4:56 I was freaking out- Mr.Justin is a 3rd grade teacher at my formal school, I moved to a new school for Grade 7 but I still do miss everyone from my old school. Also, we do not really use สนใจ in a sentence like that, mostly ตื่นเต้น like you said. If the person wants to say it in a more non-formal/lazy-ish way then they can say อยาก instead (As in ฉันอยากที่จะรู้สิ่งที่คุณ/(Insert name) คิดเกี่ยวกับภาษาไทยของฉัน) Another thing, (1:56) ผมอยากคุยกับแฟนในภาษาไทย is useable. There is no need to change the word unless they’re doing a very very grammar test

ฝรั่งอันนี้น่าสงสารไม่มีแฟนไม่มีสตางค์ ไปทางขวาไปทางซ้ายฝรั่งนี้ไม่มีอะไร กินปลาดุกกินข้าวเหนียวผู้ชายคนนี้ไม่มีรองเท้า ดื่มยาดองกินเหล้าขาวสีดานี้เป็นฝรั่งลาว. these are the words of a little song that I wrote short after I come to Thailand...I got many requests at parties in the good days (I wouldn't dare to participate at your Thai speaker gathering) cheers mate.

Technically using sonjai actually is a bit more formal. A more informal way of saying it would be similar to swapping the word “interested” with “I would like to know” like “chun yak roo waa paddy kid yang ngai”. Both ways of saying the phrase is correct and is only dependent on the formality required of the situation. Love these vids bro! ขอให้มีล้านsubscribersไวๆนะครับ

Hi Paddy ฉัน as high tone is correct Though by the tone rules it should be rising, it is an exception and in natural spoken Thai high tone is used.

Great video. I really admire everyone, including you … Paddy, and appreciate your interest and endeavor in leaning my native language 👏👏👏 I personally feel that a few might have been influenced by non-central accent (Northeastern/Northern) from the persons next to them.

There are consonant sounds such as KOK, KOD, KOB etc. at the end of each word. If you want to speak like Thai, at the end of each word you have to take out the vibration of that consonant sound. (What I try to explain is like outgoing breath through upper lips, lower lips and tooth ridge, we don’t have that) Normally, the shape of the mouth is rather closed. Another trick is to keep focus only on the sound of each word when you compose to a sentence. We don’t have the format for the intonation of the sentence, each word have their own tone (5 tones), you have to get the tone right otherwise it impacts the meaning. The intonation and the emphasis of each word often relate to key message, occasion and emotions of the speaker. Hope this help.

I have waited for long to comment "This is my native language and I don't know why I'm watching it". I'm glad now someone has created such a video in my mother tongue.

Well done to all of those that sent in their videos. I now feel really jealous of each and every one of you. It shows it can be done though, so thank you. And cheers Paddy, I love your channel.
