Hello I’m truly from Thailand I can speak English very well I can the reason I can speak Thai too is because I watch the legend of the Ramakein Or Ramayana so DAB
Ali and Peter is so so impressive. I am Thai and i would say their Thai is amazing and sounds very natural. Hearing their thai, i might misunderstood that they are half thai. I am blown away by knowing how many foreigners are interested in learning Thai and love our country. Feeling so grateful. At the end part, instead of saying เรียนจากหนังสือ (learning from the books), i might add เอง ‘aeng’ emphasizing the action that im learning myself.. like เรียนเองจากหนังสือและอินเตอร์เน็ต .. Hope my takeaway could be helpful. Cheers! 🎉

Ali definitely sounds like a native. I think that's what language learners cannot quite get it easily by learning in their own countries, it's how to speak naturally. She do benefited from staying in Thailand. Paddy also did a good job on commenter role. You can point some flaws out from the speaker which is not easy for someone who's not native speakers.

Wow! What amazing language specimens. Fascinating to hear the influence of different provinces on some of the clips in there too - it's a really good cross section of language. I wish Thai people who study English (or other languages) feel as comfortable and confident as all of you. I have helped countless foreigners learning Thai. They can easily understand and communicate within a few months because they are not scared of making mistakes. They learn from them! P.S. Now, I’m suffering with French. Too many mistakes to learn! Hahahaha

There's a real "hump" to get over when starting learning French. I found people in France to be very patient helpful and friendly when I tried my terrible French there, totally the opposite of the stereotype. So if you have the chance to try talking with French people go for it!

It's especially true in the Thai language, native speakers take their time speaking, which makes Thai quite melodic, whereas many Latin languages such as Spanish for example, they speak super fast and it doesn't affect comprehension (but probably makes it hard for non-natives to understand them lol)

This is awesome. Some clear takeaways for myself to incorporate into my speaking. #1 Slow down! There is a feeling that speaking Thai quickly is better and slowly is weakness. Often times, at least for myself, long vowel songs become short vowels and certain tones can be lost. This is very useful. Great idea Paddy!

You seem like a chill humble dude. Respect for not only learning a foreign language but helping others too! All the best!
I feel so far behind the learning curve. I have been studying thai off and on for the past year, and the combination of laziness and priorities have set me back on my learning process. I started with focusing on the thai script and tones, and then now I have been trying to learn more basic phrases, but I am having trouble remembering everything, and I will forget previous phrases. Maybe it's because I don't get enough time to go back and remember some of the beginning nuances and beginning phrases. I'm happy for all the braves ones that made a video, and hopefully, next time you decide to make one of these videos, I will have the courage to send one in. Everytime I see one of your videos, it reminds me that I should be studying. Lol

Great video, Paddy! So motivating to see so many people learning Thai as a foreign language and how some achieved such high levels of proficiency without having ever been in Thailand!! Most errors are pronunciation and tone-based, and these are things that can be worked on easily with a little bit of practice. Also, thumbs up to Luana for representing us southerners! Luana's tones aren't all wrong, per se, as it has strong hints of ภาษาใต้ (southern dialect). I'm wondering if perhaps her teacher is just a southerner? :)
@masapan76993 жыл бұрын
I think this Vdo is so great. All of you put a lot of effort into learning Thai, I appreciate that and I think Thais can understand what you speak for sure. If you don't mind, I would like to do a little bit of comment for them here. For Luana, I might have a different opinion from you cuz I love her accent. I don't know how did you pick that Thai accent from but it is so cute. It sounds very Thai from uptown (which I found it's cute). If she keep practicing Thai, I'm sure she can speak very good Thai. For Peter, he said "So I taught myself from the internet and books" in the Thai natural way, we would say ผมก็เลยเรียนภาษาไทยด้วยตัวเองจากอินเตอร์เน็ตและหนังสือ apart from that I think it's just a little mistake, he is excellent.

I truly enjoyed watching this video, the participants are an inspiration! It also makes me realize how much of a slacker I was during the 6 years I lived in a village outside of Chiang Rai. I'm one of those older guys who managed to get by without learning Thai, and although I still want too, I just can't discipline myself enough, especially now that we live in the US. What makes it worse is that I am married to a Thai for 7 years now, and to see how hard she has struggled to learn English just makes me feel guilty. If I would have put in half the effort my wife has, I'd be fluent by now. Keep up the good videos though, it is inspiring and one day soon, I hope to start my journey again.
