My favourite fictional death is the legend of Wan Hu from ancient China. According to the legend, Wan Hu was a Chinese official who attempted to be the first person to enter space and touch the moon. For this he built a chair to sit in while he used two kites to direct his flight. In order to lift off, he strapped 47 fireworks to the bottom of the chair to propel himself upwards. However, when the fireworks were lit, they immediately exploded, burning Wan Hu to death. One of the most badass deaths I've heard about is from a guy called Giles Corey, he was accused of being a witch in Salem but he never said a word to defend himself.
