It's mainly because developer is acidic. If you add more you lower the pH of the mixture, which makes it take longer to raise the cuticles and get into the cortex of the hair to start dissolving pigments.

Hey, i'm going to be bleaching my virgin black hair, but i just want it to turn out brown which would be a lift? Would you recommend I do the 1:3 ratio? Or should I try the 1:2 ratio as i've never dyed my hair before. The color i'm going for is a subtle dark brown color so i'd be grateful for ur advice.
@theworldofcraig Жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching. Hmmm…that’s a tricky one without seeing your hair and there A LOT to it. I’m assuming you don’t want the result to be warm…? So you need to lift the hair right up, beyond orange…then tone it to the result you want. I’m an advocate of home colour but bleaching from black/really dark is very technical and perhaps best left to a professional. If you do go ahead I would certainly recommend a 1:2 ratio…you need the “energy” to get the lift.

Please someone help me , I have a question about how to store the bleach powder after once you opened the package . Cause I always thought we have to put the lid back on as will start oxidising from humidity same as peroxide . But the new place where I’m working my boss whenever she’s using bleach leaves the lid off and staying there all day open . When I’m Using it I have noticed the lift is not as great I don’t know if that could be the reason then how to tell her . Because she is the salon owner . Pls help me with your opinion. ❤ but I might me wrong and doesn't not affect the bleach quality. Thank you
@theworldofcraig Жыл бұрын
Hi there I can understand how you might be concerned but there would have to be an extreme amount of humidity (and it would have to be hanging around for a very long time!) for it to impact the lift of the lightener.

What ratio do you recommend going for if the hair tends to break off and becomes stretchy?
@theworldofcraig Жыл бұрын
Hi Nini, thanks for watching. That’s a tricky one - I would perhaps suggest staying away from lightening completely if the hair is really that fragile. I’m an advocate of low and slow - a lower volume of developer is generally better for the hair. There are many (many) full process bleaching tutorials on here and lots of other lightening education.
@ninisloveletter2578 Жыл бұрын
@@theworldofcraig hi, thanks for the response. I usually have really strong hair, but in the past years my hair became a bit fragiler because I used to use really strong bleaching products. Today I used a highlight kit from the drugstore which said it lightens only 3-5 levels. And it lifted really good. My hair is like a dark brown color with loads of red pigments (used box dye). My hair did in fact survive and not a single strand has fallen out. But now I feel like I wanna go even lighter. I have a 20 volume ( 6% ) developer at home, will this destroy my hair if I use it?
@theworldofcraig Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome, I’m glad you got a good result, wahoo! Although I’m not against home colouring at all, I would advocate being careful when it comes to bleaching multiple times yourself - perhaps get someone to help you and maybe leave a few days in between processes, using K18 leave in mask to repair.

How many grams of bleaching powder and how much liquid to mix the bleaching powder will i need for a buzz cut?
@theworldofcraig Жыл бұрын
Of course it depends on the hair but I would perhaps suggest 50grams of bleach powder + 50grams of peroxide to start. Now that is a 1:1 ratio, so it’s the most “powerful” - if the hair is naturally very light I would use a 1:2. I have green eyes and brunette hair, so I always use a 1:1 mix

Hi Alexis, a ratio is a universal measure, eg - 10ml bleach + 20ml of peroxide = 1 part bleach + 2 parts peroxide = 1:2. I would never advocate eyeballing mixing up an product that uses a chemical reaction to get a result. If you run out and need to mix more, or get a great result and want the same mix next time, you’ll never get it and the lift will (for sure) be different.

@theworldofcraig Жыл бұрын
Hi Belinda The “power” to lift the hair is in the bleach powder/cream and not the strength of the peroxide/developer you mix it with. A 1 part bleach + 1 part developer mix is always going to give you the most lift. I wouldn’t recommend using this mix with anything over 20 volume peroxide - and always take the texture/type/and condition of hair your lifting into consideration. Hope that was helpful.
