Yeah, I was going to make a comment about 1/2 of Motley Crue being in the video. Its funny to think about how these two bands, Dokken, and some of the other rock bands in the LA area back then not only knew each other but were also part of the others band before being in the band they are now. I miss the 80's and am really grateful that I lived in Orange County just an hour away from the sunset strip and got to see these bands before they were super huge.

They also talked about just how super nice that he was, he was very generous with his time (he would stop and talk to any of the fans, take pictures..etc) and money, he had charities that he donated to also. Ratt stood out with great, catchy songs and was a big influence in my late high school years. DeMartini was and still is the most expressive lead player I can think of. He knows when to bend to correct pitch or sag out of pitch to create an atonal feel, and his use of dissonant tones to break up key centered melodic lines was so damn cool. And his riffs are some of the best in rock. Juan Croucier does not get enough credit for his backup vocals!!! His harmonies were huge to Ratt's sound!!!

@spacejockey47465 жыл бұрын
Crosby "will always be King"? "King" of what? If you're talking about his lead playing you're quite off with that claim. He was a key to their songwriting (which should be the most important thing), but as a lead player he was nothing special (check out the solo for "Looking for Love"). And any intermediate guitarist could play that acoustic intro. I don't mean any disrespect, but c'mon! There's a reason he played distant second fiddle to Warren and Jake.
@gregorydickman9405 жыл бұрын
@Space Jockey. Not completely true. Check out the EP--- almost all Robbin's leads. "Wanted Man" live in Pasadena 1983 was 100% Robbin. Natural minor, dorian mode, blues scale, pentatonic, attitude, speed--- it's all there. Most of Warren's fast licks can be traced to Robbin: check out "Sweet Cheater". Robbin had the songs and the riffs. That's 75% of the game. Lead? Oh, yeah, he could bring it. Warren was incredibly GIFTED. Dexterity and crazy Van Halen-esque sense of swing. However, would there be a Warren without a Robbin????? Wow! I don't know.

@@spacejockey4746 Robbin was the man prior to "Out of the Cellar." On "Out of the Cellar" he dummied his leads a lot, probably to showcase Warren. I agree that Robbin was no Vito Bratta. He also lacked Eddie Van Halen's and Warren's sense of swing. He was no Scott Gorham or Neal Schon in the soul department. Etc. But....if you transcribe his leads on "Drive Me Crazy", or "Never Use Love", or anything off the EP, especially live, you will see where Warren got several of his core licks, upon which he added to. Jake E. Lee? Yeah, I think "Never Use Love " might be Jake riff-- maybe many from the early days. Lead wise, I hear zero Jake in Robbin's playing. Had Robbin been more competitive and not gotten into substance abuse, he definitely could have competed speedwise with all but maybe a few of those Glam Metal gunslingers. Musically, Ratt just didn't have the songs. Poor singer, no ballads, everything pretty much same bpm. Certainly they were no Whitesnake, Lizzy, or Priest. I say this, yet I have studied their riffs and solos. However, few are really memorable. Warren matured a lot later on.

True that, but for the time (80's)electronic drum effects were brand spanking new and the drum effects from RATT were superior.

This is my generation of music and Ratt was a standout back then. Great song writing and Warren Dimartini was above and beyond most of the guitarist back then and catapulted this bands popularity. I still to this day listen to the groups I grew up with and like seeing the younger generation discovering the kick ass music that we rocked out to compared to the pathetic watered down mainstream shit on the radio today.🤘🎤 🥁 🎸

I was born in 84 and always had an ear for this era of rock music even when I was a kid. I enjoy 70s groups too like Boston and eras after the 80s like the grunge and nu metal movements but none are as good as this particular time. I don't even know what gets played on mainstream rock radio today tbh. If I had to guess though, it's probably still listenable though to me as I definitely enjoy it's more aggressive metal form from multiple different eras.

All these kids calling it “hair metal” or “hair band” or “glam metal.” We never called it any of those things. Anyone growing up during that time called it just “metal” or “heavy metal.”

In many ways RATT was the best of the hair metal age. Yes I know Motley Crue is everyone’s favorite. I just think Ratt had a great groove.

Motley Crue is overrated. There are so many greater bands from this era that are simply underappreciated.

When this album came out Ratt was easily as big as Motley Crue. I preferred them and this album was the popular choice at school. Pam Anderson did as much for Motley Crue's fame being with Tommy Lee than anything.
