I'm really loving this whole series so far, I bumped into you at random with your video fitting the engine into the subframe and daaaaamn you're progressing quick! Just wondering though, as I'm working on a project that also puts an Audi 20vT engine where it doesn't belong - ours is in the back of a Haynes Roadster though, rather than a hatchback! Not sure if you've made it this far yet, but do you have a solution in mind for the gear shifter? We've experimented with trying to pop the shifter tower out and rotate it 180 degrees to have the cables exit forward, but that turned out to be mechanically impossible. Are you just going to get super huge shifter cables made that run out of the shifter backwards, round the back of the transmission, then loop round forward to a shifter? This is one of the main problems me and my mate are aware of on our build so getting some thoughts there would be awesome!

Hey Chris! Thanks for watching. I've been thinking about the gear mechanism - had considered some bell cranks and linkages, but that's just over engineering - cables looping round to the correct side will do the job perfectly well and are used in many mid-engine/rwd production cars, like the MGF whose cables I'll probably adapt.

This build keeps heading off problems we're expecting to encounter with our project and posing way to solve our problems. Just started wiring with stripping the loom from the donor car and this seems like a good option if the stock ECU becomes too much of a pain to reconnect everything to. Plus the app control has some interesting options!

Yeah it should be pretty brisk, it's only the 150bhp engine but there's plans for more (because who doesn't like more?). The gear link (as Chris has commented) has had us scratching heads some, but longer cables might well be the way as you suggest. Thanks for taking a look, and the praise! If we end up with an Motogadgets, I know exactly where we'll be coming for it :)

Great video - thanks! I'm thinking of putting an M-Unit in a car with EFI and was wondering where you are drawing power for things like ignition coils, injectors, fuel pump, rad fan etc? I was thinking of making the M-Unit just for the "chassis loom" and then have a separate ign-switched relay panel dedicated to EFI: so power for ECU, coils, injectors, fuel pump and rad fan. It's a shame there aren't just a few more "AUX" circuits on the M-Ride, since it would be useful to track all circuits, without getting into the expense of a PDM. Cheers!

Hi, im using a separate relay and fuse unit. The M-unit is as you say, for the body wiring, lights etc. More aux outs would make this an excellent all in one solution, but there are also extension relays that can be used. In my setup the ECU will switch everything engine related, and the ECU is powered via the M-unit.

Do you think this would work (with the extensions you talk about) to simplify ands fix wiring on my 72 landrover?

Absolutely, i'm not sure you would even need any additional relays etc.

Is there enough IO to run the wipers, heater and stuff like fans or charge cooler pump?

+Drive Analogue no there isn’t. Just enough for lights and essential engine systems. I’ll run addictions relays for wipers etc.

What made you choose the Emerald over other alternatives?

Hi Matt, firstly, I had the emerald sitting in another project unused, but I chose it previously because I found it to be very well supported both by Emerald themselves and by it users, mostly in the K-series community. It does everything I need (well will after a small upgrade to BDW).
