Thanks! A little late to the party here as this is 3 years old.....Bought this and, for the most part, am very happy with it. Only thing I dislike about it and would like to warn others who are contemplating buying a RAV: the shell is 2mm thick. This means that the drum can really produce some volume and has a wonderful sustain. It also means that it's stiffer and less percussive than a thinner shell. One of the things I really would love to do is split finger percussive techniques....but just not able to do with this drum :-(

Great video! Thank you. I recently ordered my first Rav Vast, initially the B Celtic Double Ding in 432 Hz ... however after some more listening I felt the B Kurd to genuinely touch my heart. I don't know what the reason is, perhaps because of being from Bulgaria and the more "eastern" vibe it has. So before they shipped it, I changed my order to the B Kurd. Both seem to be very versatile scales though, having a single note difference compared to B Celtic. A vs G. So I am still waiting for my B Kurd, will arrive anytime next week... can't wait for it!

@RAVVastSteelTongueDrum Жыл бұрын
Hi! Well they are both very great scales! But I would say out of the two B Celtic DD is considered more versatile, as it basically mimics the very versatile B Celtic Minor with an extra note.Because of this it gives the possibility of sort of having two scales in one But the B Kurd is also an interesting scale, it can be used for meditation, composition, improv and also versatile depending on the purpose Hope that helped 💙

I have an instrument with the new brass ring, but with a note on the package foam, written 4.03.19...These video here is published in May!.....so, do I have a vast with the new steel and coating or the old version? Thanks for any information.

here we must mention a certain balance between the durability of the instrument and its sound. Old RAVs had one problem - they were susceptible to corrosion. We began to look for a solution to this problem and changed the coverage. Unfortunately, this has a little effect on the sound. In search of a solution, we slightly changed the internal structure and turned the tongues. The sound has changed a bit, but these improvements have been for the better. We have achieved a better (for today) balance between instrument quality and sound quality.

I'm trying to formulate the right question to ask.. I'm still in between the B kurd and and this one. Is there a celtic B minor without the double ding? I have some background with piano improvisation, and I think variety could serve me well, that more options will lead me into new pathways and keep my interest in the instrument. I have been a little hesitant when it comes to having the double or 10th note in there because of the extra price and being unsure if I would hit it by accident a lot (the higher note).
@RAVVastSteelTongueDrum5 жыл бұрын
Hi! We have B Celtic Minor without extra note. The note layout is the same. And the price is lower. You may find the scale here: ravvast.com/ravstore/b-celtic-minor

@@grozava3465 I went with the B kurd! You can't really go wrong I don't think. For the reasons I listed above, it's worked fine for me. I usually play my piano a lot more, but I still love having the option of tuning into this instrument from time to time. You will be getting into you own jams and bobbing away super quickly if you already know how to improvise with another instrument, I'm sure!

I really appreciate your explanations of these Rav drums. I know next to nothing about music theory, so I would love to be able to use your explanations to learn to play a Rav, or the Hrulu tongue drum (D major) that I already purchased... and am mad at myself for buying. I should have spent to extra money to purchase a Rav B Celtic. I have a tuning question. You mentioned that the tongues could be tuned with magnets, so I bought some, since two of my tongue notes are off (sharp, I think); but the magnets won't stick to the metal of the tongue drum. Is there any other way to tune it? I could try to glue a magnet on with shoe goo? I'm so frustrated. Another question is: Is the Rav B celtic a pentatonic scale, and does that make it easier to play notes that won't sound WRONG? I don't know where you live, but I'd love lessons.
@RAVVastSteelTongueDrum3 жыл бұрын
About the tuning, unfortunately, we can't help you. It will be better if you contact the original manufacturer of the drum. Rav Vast B Celtic has very few notes that sound dissonant (and only one halftone (C#4-D4), but it’s not that prominent). B Celtic was made that way, so it is easy to learn as you literally can’t go wrong with the melody you are creating🙌⭐️

I never liked the sound of the celtic doulble ding in the samples of the older Version. But the new version sounds like a different instrument to me. Really nice! Is it in real or because of the recording technique? Is the touch different as well? I mean the percussive element of the RAV...
@Larabeske5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Tutorial! I Love the Celtic Scale and I've been thinking about getting the Double Ding cause it's so versatile. But I've been wondering if it makes it harder for percussive playing? Cause if I'm using the root note down below, isn't it harder to Play around, than it would be with the root note in center of the drum? Or is it just a rehearse matter and I would get used to it like with the normal Scale? (I've never played a Rav before)

Did you end up getting B Celtic DD? Do you use both bass notes a lot? I am choosing between this RAV Vast and B Kurd. Any advice?

@@grozava3465 B Kurd is better in my opinion. I've got DD and want to return it (they havy 30 days moneyback policy). Extra G3 note on Kurd makes a great difference (you can play in D Major). DD has extra A2 note but there are already A3 and A4 so not much variety due to this addition. I wish I paid more attention to B Kurd before.
