Recreated the first 86 bars of the second movement of Ravel's "String Quartet in F Major" with Native Instruments' "Cremona Quartet".
Sounds pretty good to me!

Thanks for this example. It really showcases things well. There's definitely a synthetic sound to the higher notes you can hear. I would love to hear different renderings with close, mid, and far mics for this.

It is very laudable that you made this mockup and you fill a gap that very particular people, like me, are actually looking for. At least I am looking for realistically sounding string libraries. I am a string player myself and I own the Cremona Quartet. I know that the sample library alone does not deliver good results, there is lots of programming required to make string players sound acceptable. Staccato, Pizz, etc. is all rather straight forward, what is really tough is legatos. The reason some might have been disappointed of this sound example, I have to admit to be one of those, is a wrong expectation to open this video in the first place... I thought "wow, someone went through the trouble to emulate a Ravel Quartet" and I expected some miracle result. It is not, and this is not your problem, it is mine. Your work is fine. But I think that there is lots of potential in the library which could be set free, mainly in the legato. Maybe I'll try myself ... and probably fail🙂

Hey man thanks for your comment! I am not classically trained, nor do I listen to a whole lot of classical music, so my approach to creating anything comes more from a EDM or hip-hop background than anything else. That's probably also why I didn't satisfy people's expectations, as well as yours. I also didn't expect so many people to see this haha But in case you ever get to recreating the piece yourself I'd love to hear it!

This is very good! The reason why some comments are a bit negative is not because of your ability to write, It's because of your mix. Why is Pizzicato louder than the rest of the strings? These are just little things you can brush up on. Make it sound natural. Download a quartet song and put it into your mix as a reference. Good job though, very impressive!

as far as CPU load were you?

Between 50% and 80% with a little bit of plugins on the master + reverb. These strings really do kill my CPU haha

is it also possible with stringssection when you use these intruments?

I'm not sure I understand the question... Do you mean if it's possible to use these strings together with another string section library?

reverb is very strange :(
@flo.2816

That may be your speakers. Because on my studio monitors, headphones and phone it sounds fine, but on my TV speakers the reverb also sounds weird. Probably because there is added compression somewhere in that signal chain. Maybe try listening on another device and see if it is still strange

Pizzicato ~ so what! So easy to do with samples yet even here there is a lack of attention to implied dynamics and variety of interest in the shape of the music. The critical bowed melodic sections sound glassy and very unmusical as they are programmed with very poor or just nonexistent phrasing. Why is there so little vibrato? That is not how it would be played by real musicians although you would not get extreme or heavy handed vibrato usage in this type of music. I am unsure about the effectiveness of the legato too but that might be because of the lack of expressive shaping of the lines. I really can’t tell if the library is at fault here or the relatively thoughtless programming. How about you give it another go and try much much harder to imitate an actual string quartet playing the music! What we have here sounds lifeless and very uninspired.

@@flo.2816 I bought cinematic studio brass a few years back and posted a video on it just going through some of its sounds but I got jumped on by the ultra orthodox classical music mock up elite. I have never met a more miserable stuffy bunch of people. So I don’t post anything like that any more and stuff to the guitar stuff instead. This sounded great, these are some of the most professionally made plugins I’ve tried. Expertly sampled, very impressed.

I think this is actually a good example. It shows the strings are quite synth sounding. It's the VST, not the demo, that's at fault here.

@@richardjecooke8036 I don't know, maybe both, I just don't find it clear. Honestly the reverb is not good, those pizz are very powerful compared to the tiny arco violin melody in some parts wich is too shy (dynamics and character), to give a single example, in 1:04 when a theme is going to start (the trill is decent btw). Then, after that part the theme comes and it's mechanical, it doesn't sound relevant, it clearly needs more "editing" there to not sound flat in that so important part, that violin part is actually vibrato in the orginal, and it's very powerful sounding in terms of character and expression, check it out, however, the non vibrato pianisimo is not an excuse to sound without expressiveness, specially when you have this type of texture: melody+accompaniment starting a theme, where the melody has to be in the foreground with special interest, it just needs to be less flat there in my opinion. The legatos are so unclear with that reverb, kinda muddy. English is not my lenguage, sorry if I sound weird.
