I have tackled a completely new type of video today, so I have no idea how you will like it, but I'm here to find out! 🤩
I must admit, that it was really fun to do this video and see the difference between the quality and how much it has changed in the years! It makes me wanna do the same with some other brands now! 😂🙈

I get doing the 5,000 piece puzzle to honor your subscribers; however, I think you need to balance out puzzles for pleasure over Speed running them all!! I can see the joy in your face and your body doing this one, not all tense and wide eyed!! I want you to know I only say this as if I was your friend in real life!❤

I couldn't agree with you more! 😁 That's why I also decided to not mix the 6k puzzle, because it would just be too much for me! Giant puzzles can really take a toll on you, especially if you're trying to still live your life 😂 Maybe once I'm retired, I'll mix the 9k puzzle 🤣 But thank you so much! I really appreciate you kind and loving words! 🥰

I've done a couple of new Springbok puzzles and a used one from 2008. So far, they've all been great quality. And the random piece cut is nice to do, once in a while. Hope you can get your hands on some. Also, so glad you got to do a puzzle with a variety of colors, lol 🌈🧩😊

Yes I like that black backing! Nice. Just a little info I used to be speed puzzler and compete but it was years ago. I quit doing it and puzzling. For 20 years I did not do puzzles. Just recently returned to doing it. Love it again and helps to see people like you doing these videos. Speed puzzling, It became more a job than fun and speed puzzling is great for some but those who love just taking time to do it like I see you doing here. They joy I see in you doing it for fun not just timing and rushing is really showing what you really enjoy the most. Keep those times above the fast speed puzzling and you will be fine. I had to quit speed puzzling and competing because I could only puzzle if I was watching or timing myself even at home just alone for myself. Yeah it was not fun relaxing anymore. Just be cautious. Love your videos and if I were your real life friend tell you the same thing. Some ppl just watch videos and get what they want and move on but some will catch your attention because of personality that comes through. So just think of this as a friend offering personal experience. We luv ya hope you continue with your adventure / journey in the puzzling world and remain happy doing it for yourself as well as for us the viewers. Wish all the best. Peace.

I liked it too! 😊 And thank you so much for that comment! I only speed puzzle 500 piece puzzles and nothing else! I do love some leisure puzzling without timing myself and just relaxing when doing a puzzle - but I can totally see how it could quickly become too much! 😬 I think it's helpful that I'm not that fast and therefore I don't really care as much how well I do, because I know I have no chance at getting the top 10 placement, which takes a lot of pressure of myself. I did notice this year at the competition, that a lot of people took it way too serious and it sucked the fun out of puzzling, which I think was a shame. But thank you so much for the warning! 🤗 And thank you so much for your lovely comment! It really means a lot! And I will keep making videos and enjoy puzzling - that is even the deal we made with Donnalouise - if puzzling starts feeling like work, we have to change something. Because the last thing we want, is to make something that is fun, relaxing and enjoyable feel like work! So thank you! 😉🙏🏻

This was so much fun to watch. It wss nice to hear that you also enjoyed slower paced puzzling for relaxation. I'm glad you are doing the comparisons. Based on your reviews, I have tried different puzzle brands just to see which ones I really like. Educa was one that I decided 'once is enough'. Ravensburger has been consistently very good. Nice to know that even the old ones were as good as the new ones. Will definitely have to be watching for the vintage ones to try. Thank you, Janette.

I don't have anything specific to say about the puzzle, however I wanted to give a compliment on the editing, this video felt above the standard compared to other recent videos, so that is really cool. Felt like you put a lot of effort into it. I know about the piece shape differences from the older Ravensburger puzzles, since our family had puzzles from the 80s up to early 2000 when I started puzzling them (born 1998, I think I started doing 1000 piece puzzles at the age 4-6). I do also notice that the older ones don't hold together as well, but that might have also been because they've been done before, which could also be the case with the puzzle you worked on in this video. Those 'more flat' piece sides that you showed from the other old Ravensburger 1000 piece were always a lot of fun. Honestly I could see myself still enjoying them today if they were used in the one or other puzzle of their newer releases. They do experiment with a bunch of things and styles of puzzles, but those shapes they have abandoned for some reason.

Thank you so much for pointing this out! I have had some stuff going on in my life, so I didn't prioritise the quality of the videos, but rather just making sure to publish them weekly. I have learnt that mistake, because I noticed that the views and subscribers have dropped, so I'm really happy to hear that you noticed an improvement! 🥰 I agree with everything that you've said! I also think that they don't hold together as well, simply because they have been assembled so many times - I've noticed that with my London Postcard puzzle, after it had been assembled about 10 times, it stopped staying together 😅 I would love for them to experiment with the old piece cut too! That would be so much fun! 🤩

Hi Janette, Thanks heaps for a great video 👍. Great puzzle box fart too👀🤣. Seriously it’s good to do a comparison. Springbok have definitely decreased in quality in our opinion. We have modern as well as old (60’s) and the old is superb for fit and box quality. We also really like different prong shapes Master Pieces are a brand that offer a weird cut but great prong shapes which we love. Blue Kazoo have changed their product recently so a review on that would be good. We’ve found Ravensburger to be ok but not great. Puzzle dust 🙁, crumbly pieces and puzzle connection can be a bit off. Schmidt puzzles are excellent, the cut cannot be matched in our opinion. Great video Janette. Warm wishes from Oz. M+C😎😄

And now your comment made me want those puzzles even more! 😅 Blue Kazoo is a great idea, because I have the old and the new version at home!! 🤩 How did I not think about that 😂🙈 I like Ravensburger, but I agree with the puzzle dust and crumbly pieces. I am also doing the puzzles without looking at the picture all that much. More when I am stuck and think wait a minute I need to look see where does this piece possibly go but other than that I do the colors and shapes too. But when you have a lot of the same color then I look at picture more but it really isn't that much help then. Anyway, Thank You again for awesome video! I am in total agreement with the way we both puzzle...shape reliance, specific prongs, don't look at the box much, love texture & color and look at picture just fot section location. Since you are a fast YT-er speed puzzler, that makes me think I can be fast, too???? But I love casual more. Love quality comparison for older to contemporary puzzles ! Would love comparisons when companies change boxes or whatever change it may be, not necessarily vintage puzzles. An example is KI / Playview puzzles. Unified Pieces MAY have a change as well... BTW, since you like prong shapes...maybe a review on ALL existing piece shapes, and their names since none are official? This would be an in- depth research, so maybe it is too time- consuming, but it would be fun to watch...

That's so cool to hear! I always wonder how other people puzzle and it's nice to meet someone who puzzles the exact same way! 🤩 I think everyone can be fast with enough practice. I have gotten on average, half an hour faster in 1 year, since starting speed puzzling! 🤯 So if this is something you enjoy, why not try it 😁 You don't have to ever do it again if you see that this is not something you enjoy 😉 I have more puzzles to compare now, since this video was so popular, so I'm interested to see the differences in the quality over the years 🤩 And yes, a video on the shapes and the names would be fun, but I'm not actually sure there are official names for the pieces as there are so many different ones out there 😅 Definitely something to look up! Thank you 🤗

@@janetteandherpuzzles Yes, I too love to find someone who puzzles the same way! You are the first for me. When you puzzle casual, do you sort as you go? Do like to rummage the pieces directly in the box? I love to hear the sound they make. There are several synonyms to puzzle piece names. Just a matter of gathering the names....it would be reawarding to see them in one glance!
@bettyc.6280
@bettyc.6280 6 ай бұрын
Piece shape names are not official, but you can write ALL the synonyms, and all the jigsaw puzzle terminology, such as "freebies", false fits, and so on. Ooo, a Jigsaw Puzzle Picture Dictionary would be fun because it can be created in black and white, no color so less expensive to produce!!! I would need lots of 500pc puzzles to practice speed puzzling (I practically have 1000pcs) plus boring images, so I'm uncertain when I would do that. Maybe in the future. Thanks for the encouragement on trying speed puzzling. But there should be more competitions with awards for puzzle chess.

Hallo, Janette. Nice video thanks for shooting. Ravensburger puzzles have had a logo their puzzles way before the 1980. The one you have may be a special one, in terms of not beeing in the regular product line. It may have been an order from an individual or a company. Ravensburger has made such puzzles in time. Some times it is stated on the box, sometimes not. I have many puzzles from them and some are from the 70s in my collection, but saddly have not puzzled them yet. WWhen it comes to the cutting, they are a brand that designs or used to design the cuttings dies by hand. Nowadays the puzzles, are less differentiated, to the cutting if you compare them with older puzzles. I have put together a 5000 piece from 1992 where the pieces are like showed and one 9000 from 1998 piece where the cut difference was really terrible... Teribble meaning that it had many misfits which was problematic, especially in the sky. I hope this doesnt happened to the complete collection since I do have a lot in my stash. ;)
@janetteandherpuzzles

Hey! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🤗 There was another comment stating that the puzzle must be some special order as it should have a logo. So it would be really interesting to know who is behind this production! 🤩 That's such a shame about the 9k puzzle - it must have been difficult to assemble without knowing if the pieces fit at the right place 😬 I do hope that that's not the case with the rest, as you said you have quite a few of them. But by the looks of things, they changed their cut quite a bit, so you might not have the same cut for puzzles that are only a year apart 😊

I started a Ravensburger Krypt puzzle, and the thing that instantly annoyed me was the lack of variety in the prongs. It's impossible for me to do it without the solution, and even with it, I find it very, very hard and tedious. It's sad to see they had more shape variety before, and I still don't understand why they don't add more variety, especially on the Krypt puzzles, since they need to be solved based on shapes only.

That was a lovely puzzle and interesting to find that it was less than 1000 pieces. I would imagine that most puzzle companies have evolved over the years with piece quality and shape. Some perhaps have gone backwards and the quality of the jigsaws has dropped in comparison to their early days. Costs may well have something to do with that. Some companies have gone in for tighter fits which I find slightly annoying. It makes it more difficult to break up the jigsaw when it is being put away.
@janetteandherpuzzles
@janetteandherpuzzles 8 ай бұрын
I was very surprised that it had less than 1000 pieces too! I guess it's just the size of the box, that made me assume it's a 1k puzzle 😅 I think the cost definitely played a role with the quality with some brands, which is completely understandable, but still unfortunate 😬 I do agree that when the fit is too tight it's annoying - it has to be the perfect one, not too crumbly, but crumbly enough to easily break up when put away 🤩👌🏻

That old puzzle looks like fun! When you were comparing the pieces of the two puzzles, did you mean like if the pieces could be exchanged? Ravensburger makes a new mold by hand for every puzzle, so no two Ravensburger have exchangeable pieces.
