WAX discount code 15% off: RYAN15 from www.purlwax.com (one time only code) A variety of the appropriate temperature wax is best. If you snowboard a lot and know you will be for years, then I recommend the 1lb bricks. Lasts and economical vs. small packages sold in ski stores. I just got the 300mm roto brush. After all these years of brushing. OMG time saver! It's something I should have invested in long ago. Thanks for sending me one Purl!

Hi Ryan, when you extend your heel side your dominate leg is fairly straight where as mine is always bent close to 90 degrees. Do you have any tips or advices on extending heel-side for a straighter leg?
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton Жыл бұрын
I despise the term 'dominate leg'. I'm thinking about the board from the ground up. What edge angles should the board be at at any milli-micro-zeptosecond at any time. I want the board to handle good physics of tilting her up on her edge. So it's a stiffer board that can handle that, and wide enough I'm not too worried about 'boot-out'. And then I just need to do a full mind / body / soul, 'dance' with what I predict the board should do in relation to whatever snow I'm visually seeing and expecting the snow to do in relation to that. Ron LeMaster was one of the great minds in the skiing World. He regretted the name of one of his books. He wanted it to be something like "skiing from the ground up". The publisher talked him out of it. 😢😢😢. Wanna know how Ron LeMaster died? He was hit by a snowboarder. Zero percent chance Ron was at fault. He was a Master. I just want to raise awareness of control. Today was so sketchy for me. It was like people in rental helmets were just tossing bowling balls down the slope at me because of their shakey legs and inability to turn on terrain that is far above their ability level. Let's get back to the good. Think of your body as water in relation to what the board should do. Put them in harmony with what feels best. There are no hard rules. Make it feel great! Who gives a shit about any specific certain form. That shit holds us back. 😎❄️🏂❄️🤘

@@RyanKnapton Thanks for sharing your thought process, ill keep that in mind as well. Before i go up, I would always have something in mind to work on which keeps me motivated. Right now, I’m stuck in a form, i feel like i need to make adjustments out of my comfort zone to see how my body responds and potentially learn from them. That’s why i use your selfie video as a comparison and make adjustments. Kind of learning in the sense of reverse engineering. One of the things i realized earlier was my back when on toe side i was more crouched then yours, when i made the adjustments it made a huge difference. I do remember you had a video specifically talking about this (hip towards the board), I thought it was obvious which i was already doing until i made that back change and feel how it responds that i realized I wasn’t really doing it all this time. Anyway, thanks for sharing and constantly reminding the importance of safety. Stay safe out there and keep these great videos going!

You sir, are the king of carving. I’m impressed by the agility you have with that monster of a board. This is my 28th year boarding, but first season on a custom donek. I’m sad that I haven’t discovered your channel sooner. You inspired me to shift into carving instead of park. There’s nothing like holding edge on a loaded up board while dragging your elbow on the snow. The fluidity is like nothing else. I’d love to hit breck next year and try to rip a run with the king of carving. FWIW, my quiver at the moment is 2019 neversummer westbound 157DF 2022 donek knapton twin 157, 30.5 waist, 10.5m sidecut

The sound quality is really good, almost zero wind noise. It seemed slightly "muffled" a couple times but the quality was still good. 👍 Being patient on the mountain is something I am constantly striving for. So many people riding on terrain and at speeds that are far beyond their ability level. We had a young skier lose her life here at my home mountain just a few days ago, I don't know any of the details, very tragic and sad. 😞 I appreciate you sharing your insight and experience to help us to be better able to enjoy that feeling of gliding on edge and leaving pencil lines all over the mountain. Keep yourself safe and Qapla'! 😃👍❤🏂 Randy

Hey R. Those Rode mic are not designed to be covered /inside your jacket. It makes the audio very muffled. In post you could boost the db’s to get more back and apply an audio filter to increase the mids and treble range. Like anything new, practice, practice and practice. You’ll work out what works best for you. Thanks.

The Rode Mics sound muffled, so I'd apply a high shelf eq to get the clarity up, and maybe cut out some the roominess in the low mids. Also I think it shouldn't be one or the other, the board sound of the GoPro sounds better than the rode. Boarding was awesome :D

Thanks for the content Ryan! Lots of muffled sounds and rubbing from under the jacket, maybe a windmuff and clip it to the zipper flap or collar on your jacket? Audio is so hard to capture riding. I have tried a Lav mic that sat just under my chin with some success, just needs something to cut the wind and not rub on it and it seems to work ok. Can I ask what pole (length) and camera you are using? If a GoPr,o is it in Superview? I like how you are totally in frame, something I am struggling with. 🤟

💯. I'll keep trying. I really did like hearing those little nuances which otherwise would have been missed. I got some ideas in mind to try to achieve it. I can play with decibel levels on each mic, so a couple different places physically (rather than both on my neck) might be an option to differentiate voice / the physics on the snow. Thanks for the thoughts on it! 😎✌️

Hi Ryan, you mentioned on reddit that when you don't snowboard you work out. Do you back squat, front squat, deadlift? How strong are you? Carving like you means you must have some strong legs!
@RyanKnapton
@RyanKnapton Жыл бұрын
It's nothing too crazy. I blend most of it with my foosball practice. So squats, lots of calf raises in various positions and angles... Generally I try to sit as little as possible and it seems to be working great. Just using the body almost non stop, doing some slight yogo whenever I feel tight. I really don't get too scientific with it. And if anything hurts or is tight at all, I focus on it. The sports specific muscles by being on my board as much as I can, with trying to make all my motions as efficient as I can is most important for me. My whole life I've struggled with flexibility, but it all feels a lot nicer now that I'm not riding park / pipe all day every day. The impacts add up. No joke, I doubt anyone knows how much I was in the air since I was 14. And from about 15 on, my body felt it. It was manageable. Other riders I knew would do fucked up shit like take a small handful of ibuprofen to kill the pain. I cringe so hard on what some of my peers put themselves through. Snowboarding doesn't need to hurt. I'm so happy my body feels great again. Mostly it's just decision making and striving for efficiencies that have lead to feeling a hell of a lot better. I'll talk about it sometime in the future, but it might not be for awhile.

@@RyanKnapton Thank you for your lengthy reply. Yes, i think mobility is very important. I hurt my lower back while back squatting a year ago, mostly because of stiff hips. I also did running, and 7 months ago started a part time job as a bicycle courier. Sadly i got an IT band injury about 5 months ago. At the moment things go a bit better for me again. My Lower back pain is as good as gone (if i don't do anything stupid). And i am able to squat again. I don't back squat anymore because of the direct loading of the spine. But i do front squat instead, wich is also a great exercise for mobility and posture. I also work on hip mobility. And i work on single leg stengt because i have some muscle imbalances. Single arm dumbel deadlift with one leg slightly forward and with most of your weight on that front leg feels great, so i do that a ton. And lunges with the front foot elivated also works really well for hip mobility. I think those butters you do on your snowboard also help with single leg stability and symmetry in muscle strengt and mobilty. And yes i also do lots of light movement, that is a really good thing to do. Really great for increasing your work capacity so you can tolerate those long snowboard days, quapla!
