If you are brand new to raw food and feeling overwhelmed I recommend just doing kibble, one cracked egg, 1/2 cup of gizzards, and 1/2 chicken liver. Gizzards and Liver are usually found at Wal-Mart and local grocery stores.
If you're ready to jump in and fully do raw food , then I hope this video is useful and easy to understand!
We have been feeding out dogs raw food for about 2 years now with no issues. I believe this is the easiest and cheapest way to do it without having to order anything online. We are able to get all the ingredients at most grocery stores and Asian markets. We've lived in multiple different states, so the price of food varies greatly on where you live. The most we've spent on raw food is in San Diego (seen here in this video), and the cost for one dog per month was $115. Definitely cheaper in other states!
We try go off the rule of 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organ meat per meal.
We feed the dogs about 2-3% of their body weight.
We feed them once a day, first thing in the morning.
I recommend not giving them too much pork. If your dog struggles with keeping weight on, then I recommend one small piece a day. Otherwise, too much might give them diarrhea.
We do not feed them vegetables, fruit or give them any kind of supplements (we're not oppose to it, just being honest in that we don't do it and the dogs seem healthy either way).
I hope this helps!!
Part 2 will be of us actually feeding our dogs the raw food

Mine ate raw for about 85% of her life. I got her at 1 yo, she was medium 38-40 LB, and I put her down last year at 15.5 yo. She was very healthy and the most low-maintenance dog (great teeth, only started noticeably slowing down in the last 2 years) I've had but developed cognitive issues during the last year.

Been feeding raw for 9 years. My current dog is a 21 month old female yellow lab. I buy frozen items like pork necks, chicken quarters, chicken backs, turkey wings, turkey necks, ground chicken, ground turkey, ground pork and ground beef in bulk, semi thaw enough to portion into individual plastic bags and refreeze. My lab "hunts down and finds" 1 frozen sardine and 2 frozen chicken feet every single afternoon. She'll have a raw meaty bone also. Her dinner is a good mix of protein, bone and organ meats.

I've been doing this for more than 12 years, feeding five dogs. You'll find it much easier if you assemble at least one week or one month's worth of assembled food for total weight over that period, then randomly assemble each daily meal, then package, freeze and thaw for each daily meal.

Such a great video. It was hard to read comments about how this isn’t a good diet. The video is about showing people what it looks like and how to feed raw and store raw. And pricing. Not about what type of supplements to add based on your dogs issues. I’m actually glad you didn’t show supplements bc this video was very direct. 10/10 compared to the videos that start showing way to much of supplements and raw. I wanna see how to feed raw not see 50 types of supplements to add lol.

This was a very helpful video. we want to adopt and we want to feed raw, I’m curious about #1 any digestive issue, like gas, diarrhea and bowel movements. #2 Since you feed 1x daily do you give them snacks? Also, is it a myth about chicken bones. #3 You feed your dogs chicken quarters so I guess there are no issues with the leg bones? I know that’s a lot of questions.
@lukeryuzaki2328
@lukeryuzaki2328 9 ай бұрын
Since OP didn't answer, I will try to help. #1 There shouldn't be any issue ever once the dog gut adapt fully to raw diet. However, during transitioning phase your dog may experience diarrhea because its gut flora is not developed to process the raw meat, so the gut to to flush out indigestibles as quickly as possible. In this phase, try to divide feeding portion into 3 meals. Feed boneless raw meat semi frozen to force your dog to chew (teach them later to chew bone, as well as chewing food well help the stomach digest food better). Supplement calcium by adding ground egg shell powder. Give dog plenty of plain yogurt at this phase. #2 You would have to subtract meat snack from the feeding amount. If you don't want to complicate your daily meal preparation, then give them fruit/veggie snack. Fruit and veggie mostly are mostly indigestible by dog, so they are there to provide fiber, and some trace mineral (dog snack on grass, veggie root in garden all the time by themselves). So keep same meat amount, and freely give dog some fruit/veggie snack. Some well known dog friendly fruit/veggie: carrot, pumpkin,blueberry, raspberry, broccoli, kelp #3 Avoid cooked bone. You need to teach dog to chew food, and bone before feeding poultry leg quarter bone. Feed boneless semi frozen raw meat. Then feed chicken neck, chicken back (keep it as big as possible, so the dog have to chew and learn to chew properly before swallowing). Only after you see your dogs chew those part well, then start with bone in thigh. And then the whole leg quarter. I wouldn't take more than 3 week for a dog to adapt to raw fed diet and know how to chew chicken leg quarter properly. So don't be afraid, nor rush it.

The food you make for one meal would feed my dog for 5 days, she only weighs I think it’s 6 pounds (3 kilos). But my dog suffers from HGE and wouldn’t be able to process so many protein varieties in one meal. She was on boiled chicken and white rice for over a year as the HGE nearly killed her twice. She is a little more adventurous now but not THAT adventurous. My previous dogs would have loved this diet though.

I feed a mixed diet of mostly raw, but I also use The Honest Kitchen ( that I use extensively when on the road/traveling) and a home cooked foods with a good mix of meats, vegetables, pseudo grains like quinoa, buckwheat, and ground flaxseed. My Ahyoka is a beautiful, healthy girl that never scratches, smells, and at almost 3 years old has the whitest teeth you have ever seen on a dog! Her 17 mouth old brother is also on party this diet, but puppy kibble is in the mix, just to make sure that all vitamins and minerals are covered. Ahyoka loves the chicken paws and eggs the most, she saves them until last! She actually savors them. She will lap up the egg whitest, then the yoke and crunchy shell, then on to the chicken paw. Also, she eats slower then kibble. I started her off on kibble as a puppy, was too intimidated about raw, was intrigued and had read up on raw feeding, then one day decided what the heck and started, and within a week, saw improvements in her looks, and activities. I will keep feeding my fur babies this way from now on. Their veterinarian wasn't to excited about the raw feeding, but she might be coming around. The veterinarian always comments on Ahyoka's looks (coat, teeth) and health. I might not be 100% raw ( mostly because of time and expense ) but I'm more then half raw, with a homemade cooked foods and human grade dehydrated food rounding things out. I truly believe that raw is the way to go and kibble is the least way, ( though I use a high quality kibble as treats, and while traveling ), kibble is at the bottom. This video was informative, interesting, inspiring, and helpful. Thank you for sharing.

I have food sensitivity myself and have found that I can NOT handle the skin raw or cooked in anyway for more than a few days to a week not sure why... I assume that the type of fat, or other is the issue (nature programs claim bears eating the salmon skin for the fat content - and they do contain an oil when cooked- but it is still a pretty thin peice of food/hard to imagine) ...I occasionally cut the skin from a half pound section into strips and give over a day or two to him, seems fine in this amount once a week or so...

@@travisandalyssahopper8300I have however done a bit of "reading" on sardines, mackerel and other marine/saltwater fish and found that about half of the species contain a substance known as thiaminase ("ase" is the key part - it means that it is an enzyme that breaks down the thiamine) Thiaminase breaks down vitamin B-1 / thiamine ... I have even asked multiple carnivore channels that have pushed the Sardine heavy versions about this and have only heard silence... I love sardines myself, and the only other thing that I have seen pop up that was **curious** was a clip of Joe Rogan talking about eating a couple cans of Sardines a night for a while and his doctor asking him why his blood work came back with "high amounts" of Arsenic. ... doctor said it was very likely that it was from the Sardines as Sardines are high in Arsenic... He cut them from his diet and then three months later I believe he said he had his blood work done again and no Arsenic/normal range... Not sure how to consider this in respect to dogs AND it looks like you have raw sardines? So perhaps there is a big difference on raw versus canned or perhaps the locally available source/species that you are getting too ... Some species of sardines have/make thiaminase and other species do not (same with all the other species as well, some have it and other species do not) - historically this was part of the scurvy on boats story that is left out of the edited/watered down history books... Vitamin B-1 and vitamin C are both CRITICAL/ESSENTIAL for cellular function - to make ATP (the energy molecule of the cell/out entire body) requires BOTH vitamin C and vitamin B-1 in order for this function to occur ( known as the Kreb's cycle ) ....

@@travisandalyssahopper8300after rewatching I realized I missed a few details - one that caught my attention is the pork that you have the dog that was having trouble "keeping weight' - pork is *"relatively high in vitamin B-1 / Thiamine"* ...perhaps the weight keeping issue "could" have been that particular dog was more susceptible to thiaminase in the sardines...? Not trying to play vet or anything, just VERY curious - I struggle with all kinds of health issues that require supplements and Digestive enzymes and stomach acid replacement pills (Achlorhydria) and taught Anatomy & Physiology for over 20 years so I am always in "learning" mode about this stuff... I know it's probably not an experiment you want to run without a digital scale to check the weight of your dog, but I am wondering if you still feed the sardines or other and how it is going - also, I realize that regardless of what you have or haven't changed that it may not mean anything/may not satisfy the question I have in my mind, so I thank you for sharing your video and welcome any response you give. I've taken in many dogs that were kibble fed their whole lives & transitioned them onto 100% raw diets. SOME dog's definitely can be a little difficult and picky lol but, they won't let themselves starve!! It may go a day without a meal, that's no biggie. Just gives it's body time to clear out & be hungry the next day. If the dog KNOWS you aren't going to give in & feed something different, they'll eat the raw! And once they start, they begin to love it. You can 100% tell they feel better when they eat what they're meant to.

No shit……😂 Start by slowly transitioning to wet food. Then slowly transition to GROUND UP raw food. They will likely NEVER be able to eat a bowl of whole chicken legs and whole bones, but they can be transitioned to ground up raw food. Make sure you are also including sources of veggies and fiber though. Please talk to your vet first regardless.

ALL meat? How long have you been feeding them that? Seems like they should need fiber, and others things that meat can't provide. How did you come to feed them that? Was there a source that said that is a good diet? Or is it something you created on your own?

- all meat- meat, bones, organs and whole fish. -Been feeding them this diet for 2 years with no health issues. -Sometimes they get cooked carrots throughout the week and other vegetables/fruit whenever we meal prep for ourselves. But I don’t think they need a lot of it on the raw diet. - we came to feeding them this way when my one dog would not stop having diarrhea. We tried 3 different kibble brands and nothing worked. Once we tried raw food on her, her diarrhea was gone. - there are many sources online and on KZbin that you’ll find more information about raw food.

It's important to remember that dogs are different from people in their diets. This is their biologically appropriate diet that they are naturally capable of consuming safely. Extra supplements are recommended, but the same would apply for people. We can't get all our vitamins from food either.

I actually don't suppliment. I get all my nutrients from food, and track it through Cronometer. For dogs, Dr. Becker says the worst diet you can feed your dog is an unbalanced raw/homemade diet. She has a video showing what a complete diet entails.

Dogs stomachs contain extra enzymes that can break down raw meat, something humans are missing. You also have to remember that dogs are descendants of wolves. They kill and eat other animals. We have bred dogs to become house pets but if you trace their DNA and history they are from wolves. My dogs eat (dog food) kibble and I want to start them on raw meat. When I’m in the kitchen cooking I’ve given them hamburger and pork and chicken and in small amount and see they have always been fine and no issues.

1)They're not babies, they're dogs. 2)Being the animals they are, they can perfectly digest raw meat as their stomach acids are pretty tough and can also kill most of the bacteria. 3)All it takes for raw meat to be safe for dog's consumption is to freeze it for a couple of days to make sure it has no parasites.

Again, how can people afford to feed their dogs raw foods? Do you know how much a thing of chicken is now how much a thing of beef is now how much a thing of turkey it’s now a pound of hamburger is seven dollars turkey is even ridiculous chicken. It can be up to $12 a pound wherever depending on where you live And all the other ingredients you are talking about a $70 meal $70-$80 per meal that’s ridiculous you figure the hamburger a pound is seven dollars a pound of turkey is anywhere from eight to $10 a pound of giblets or hearts, or whatever is four dollars and five dollars and then the vegetables dude it’s ridiculous. There’s no way a dog can eat better than a human although I love my dogs I can’t afford it I can’t I have a German shepherd maybe you have a little tiny dog and that would last a month but it would last me two weeks. I feed them twice a day, almost 2 1/2 cups per meal between both of them

There are a few essential nutrients for dogs that cannot be met unless you supplement or feed whole prey. Things like Iodine, Vitamin E, Manganese, Zinc and Vitamin D. A channel I have found super helpful is Paws of Prey, She does SO many videos on different food sources, balancing and why each nutrient is necessary for both dogs and cats of different age groups. She also has a free cheat sheet on her website to help balance and build your raw meals! Another website that is also very helpful is Perfectly Rawsome, they have guides on how to properly balance meals for puppies, adult dogs, kittens and adult cats based on the NRC (National Research Council) guidelines. It covers all of the different nutrients, vitamins and minerals requirements as well as whole foods you can use to meet these nutrient requirements. There is also guides on supplements you can use if you cannot find those whole foods in your area easily. Hope this is helpful!

@@brianahagen6351 well, a good part of feeding raw is making sure the diet is nutritionally balanced and complete, so unless you can use whole foods to meet all of these vitamins/nutrients then its essential to supplement them. It’s what raw feeding is, when you choose to feed a raw, homemade diet, it is your responsibility to make sure your dog or cat is getting all the nutrients they need to be healthy. If you can’t do that or aren’t willing to learn then you shouldn’t be feeding a raw diet.
