This video delving into ferret requirements for amino acids and other nutrients required by ferrets was interesting. My last ferret passed away last month. He was adopted from the Ferret Association in Connecticut, US, for which I volunteer. I am saving this video to refer to, for when I get another ferret or two. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of ferret diet requirements with us.

When I had Hybrid Ferrets, they did eat a raw diet and were given a special goat's milk dry formula mixed with water which they loved. These ferrets remained healthy and lived until 9 years and older. My Domestic Ferrets also were healthy eating Totally Ferret and Pro Plan kibble. At the ferret shelter for which I volunteered they fed the same. Good vet care helps them as well.

Great video! Glad to see the myth busting, especially with DOC. Meant to tell you that we bought some Ox tongue awhile back and Cornflake loves it but Cheerio will sniff it, gag and walk off. 😅 Thankfully they both love chicken stomachs. (provided to try and help clean the teeth)

Good stuff! I've never actually tried gizzards, but might see if I can find some!

Very informative 👍. I love that you focused on nutrition over ingredients. And thank you for linking your research. Always looking to improve my Girls' raw diet!

Question. Is feeding your ferret only whole prey, or at least majority of their diet healthy? As a former reptile owner feeding whole prey is very familiar to me

An exclusively whole prey diet can of course be healthy. The problem is that there isn't much variety in whole prey options. For a snake you can get away with exclusively feeding mice, but not for a ferret. You can feed a variety of mice, chicks, pigeon, rabbit, which should be fine so long as they're eating the liver too.

wow, fascinating,, ive been making my own mix,, is this ok? 1kg minced chicken wings, 1kg of minced chicken,1 kg of Turkey minced, 750 g f minced beef 15%fat, 500g of minced pig hearts (when i can get them) plus 350g of lambs liver and if i cant get hearts i put pig kidney instead.. i give them this every day with slight variations but should i try giving them day old chicks or mice?? oh yeah i also give them grizzly salmon oil..

Sounds like a great mix. If you can get chicks then nothing wrong with adding that as variety but it's not exactly essential. Could try rabbit too. Maybe your local butcher has whole rabbit. Providing something in largeer chunks that requires chewing provides a good enrichment experience and also great for teeth.

I tend to feed my Polecats (when I do feed them raw): Kidney, Liver, Heart and Giblets. Is that satisfactory?

It's good, but ensure there plenty of fatty bits, or add in some other fatty meat. Then you still need some bones for calcium

I will never feed "crap in a bag' to any of my carnivores again. Ferrets were all on raw and lived healthy until 9 or 10. Cats also all on raw and live well into their 20's.
