I live in Lahaina, the fire stopped a mile from my home. We had to evacuate in the middle of the night but were able to return in the morning. We are extremely fortunate to still have a home. This loss is so heart breaking. So many families effected. Mahalo to all who help in these desperate times.

My heart goes out to all in beautiful Maui. I’m Australian and we have been to Hawaii a few times over the years, including Maui in 2009. We have family video and wonderful memories of wandering along the Lahaina harbour front and visiting the courthouse; as well taking a whale watching tour and driving along the coastline. To see this devastation hits home as much as seeing fire devastation in towns in my own country. Heartbreaking.

The same here. We have have been there few times as well while staying in Kaanapali Marriot, but dinning most of the time on the Front Street at Lahaina Fish, Pacific'o on the Beach watching marvelous sunsets in February, March. These are beautiful memories, and it is heartbreaking to think that the Front Street has been wiped out. This is a crime scene, and I do not believe for a moment this fire was a natural event. Arsonists are spreading these fires around the globe to support their NEW theory of "global boiling" to create more fear, panic and destruction. This is the next level in fighting the climate change. Pandemic ammo has burnt out, Ukraine war is not going right for them, so now we have another enemy to fight. It is mind boggling, the level of evil and destruction, in the name of some false ideology, dogma and population control.

I live in N Calif. we lived this firestorm scenario @ communities devastated through several bad fires 2017-2021. From those pics, it looks like thousands of homes destroyed, not a few hundred. My stomach knotted when I saw the pile up of cars on the side streets and lots burned out. Where are those people? They had no clue what a firestorm could do or how fast it will move. Just tragic. Don't spread stories unless you know something we don't. Wildfires start all the time from natural events. In this case wind blowing over power lines sparking onto dry brush and flames being fanned by very high winds. Why be paranoid and rumor mongering. Unless you know for a fact someone did it - then you should call the police.

It's amazing how some structures survived the fire. I was in Maui last March and had several great shots of Lahaina. We shopped and ate there. I had pictures taken in front of the banyan tree. I'm looking at those pictures on my cellphone and just reminisce what was and had been. I cried while scrolling through those photos. Lahaina can rebuild but how can you replace those 18th century structures? You can't. All of them are just memories now.

Thanks God, that the people of this town are helping together and comforting each other as best as they can. I'm following up on every story, trying not to lose hope. And it is more than hard for me. History has to be remembered and restored forever and where it is possible. Lahaina can do that, I know it! We will all come together and help, as best as we can. @@murrayhall4727do you mean the big white MODERN BUILDING that was built with MODERN FIRE RESISTANT MATERIALS and didn’t burn because it was FIRE RESISTANT and acted as a wind breaker protecting the trees on one side from the blowing flames? With all the actual conspiracies do you have to pretend that nothing happens without the boogie man being involved? (And how about a little decent consideration for those who lost their property or loved ones?).

i have sympathy for all that were affected by the fire i am questioning its origin no i did not mean the MODERN BUILDING look at .10 mark there is a white building burnt out just the frame left so it was NOT sheltering the trees behind it. It should have ignited the trees if you look at the footage there are several places where building burnt to ash but yet right beside it a tree unaffected you dont find this strange? Or do you just follow what msn reports to us with religious faith? @@richardgross3794

Amazing to see Lahaina Shores still standing; it's one of the bldgs I worked on during initial construction back in the 70's. Everything else around it is burnt down to ashes, my father inlaw; Ray McDonnell was the suprintendant on that project. Does anyone else recognize that name?

These incomplete snippets tell a fraction of a story we all want to see. The edits left out important parts of Lahaina, like The Cannery Mall and the entirety of Front Street, from Mala Ocean Tavern at the North end, to South of Lahaina Shores. Some sections, like the Banyon Tree and Harbor were shown multiple times, and others, not at all. At one point the pilot(?) talks about the Banyon Tree and the camera is pointed in the opposite direction! It's as if the editor of this video had ADD. Maybe he was in shock. Certainly not what I expected from HNN. : (

The governor of Hawaii should be put on trial! Nothing has been done to prevent this catastrophe. Knowing that the danger of fires and the approach of a cyclone along with storm winds did nothing! 36 deaths on the conscience of the governor! Should be suspended and put on trial!

You need to stop zooming in, stay still. Look at previous disaster coverage. Im sorry I don’t mean that in any negative way towards what happened but it’s a better overview of what has occurred and people can zoom on their own. Just a tip that helps overall imho. Visited there years ago. And many visits to Abacos which was hit with Cat 5 storm and it’s better with solid smooth video so people can see what has happened. IMHO. Not trying to be disrespectful.

It happened when winds coming over the the mountains and hurricane Dora winds coming from the ocean…knocking trees down onto power lines forcing the closure of the bypass because of fire and downed power lines on Honoapiilani Hwy!!! Detouring everyone at Pau Hana time to use Front St. Sparks caught on dry grass on the Makai side of the hwy…which eventually became a death trap!…Lahaina Town/homes buildings are 50- 100+ years old!! I’m fortunate that I have I few family members made it out and homes up …but we do “know” a lot that lost everything !!! Keep they support and prayers coming!! #Lahaina Strong
