Notice how the blue umbrellas never caught fire somehow right next to the building. Or the 2 blue cars that are almost completely intact in the center of traffic, the paint still intact. why every car around it is a dusty white. I’ve never seen such destruction caused by fire. The buildings are completely destroyed, only ashes are left. The temperature must have reached an extremely high level to calcine buildings that way. After a fire most of what is left behind looks black, again the temperature must have been extremely high to leave nothing but ashes. Honestly this doesn’t look like a natural fire to me

I have lived in Lahaina since the 1990s. I’m still on west Maui this to this day. This is the first drone footage I’ve seen that actually shows the up close details of the streets I’ve walked along for decades. Yes, I cried. Everything I knew is gone, including a few close friends. We are still struggling this Christmas. Lady Lahaina was so caring and loving. She is not gone as her spirit is still felt. I am only 3 miles away from this but watching this seems like I’m miles away. My heart aches so badly. You can’t help but think that there is something way bigger at play here. I will one day be blessed to walk these street again one she is reborn. Im anxiously awaiting for her to awaken. I love her so.

The drone was exactly shoring us that. The fire oddly had a nice clean well pattern burn. The tree branches had nice clean cuts no scorching. what they did was quentin’s the place then had a crew makes things worst and to c over up anything that was a smoking gun, hence the cats and trucks there with no damage the cars burnt melted but the street looks fine…. hmmmm oh no someone goofed up

Fire makes no distinctions and when it attacks, especially in such a catastrophe, it sets fire to everything in its path and we all agree on this. Many condolences.. Before rebuilding, Maui homeowners could learn from the 1993 Laguna Beach fire where only one home in Mystic Hill was the only left untouched by it--was spared due to its construction and landscape design. The house featured double-pained glass which helps keep heat from igniting the draperies inside the house, a tile roof sealed with concrete on the ends to keep sparks out, and stuccoed eves to hide any exposed wood. Landscaping zones of fire resistant plants also helped. Read as much as you can about fire retardant materials to prevent a recurrence. Do not sell your land. If you work as a community and get a trusted single developer who can help rebuilt at a great discount, I believe it will work. Erect a memorial as a reminder of this incident if you can.

Are we allowed to ask how it's possible that every structure & vehicle is charred to ash & rubble, while every tree is still standing with its foliage & the grass is still green? Something is off

Did the Parrot’s make it out? They were in a cage at a restaurant. I feel so worried about them, they were so sweet! How many of the trees will recover, or will they? 😢 I hope there are artists that can help duplicate the historic buildings so children know the history. 😢 My prayers are with the burn victims and other’s who lost their homes. May they find strength to recover. 😢

@@Nope-sGeez. Did you not read his whole post? Your comment is uncalled for. Okay maybe he didn’t word it with the mention of deaths but he is sincere and you know he is heartbroken about all aspects. Cut him some slack here. I’ve read comments on here with people showing no mercy and blaming the victims. It’s sickening. This person means well.

My only reference point was the line of palms with trunks that lean towards the ocean at one end of Front St. I can’t believe that it is all gone - the homes, the galleries, the shops, restaurants…did the Carthaginian II survive? So much history is just gone.

You think this was “self inflicted”because they didn’t want to sell their land so they deserved to have their houses destroyed? People like you, who condone this kind of evil are the very reason the perpetrators feel like they can get away with such horrible crimes!

My wife and I are from Ohio. We have been to Maui a few times. Lahaina is my wife's favorite place in the world to be. We would always take at least one day where I would go snorkeling somewhere and my wife would go to Lahaina to shop and hang out at some of the coffee shops. We would always eat at Cool Cat restaurant right beside the Banyan tree. I feel so bad for these people. There was a lot of homeless people in that area. How are those people identified? I pray for Maui and there people.
