It’s amazing. It kind of reminds me of how Elizabeth Smart’s mother said when she got rescued ‘Elizabeth what happened to you was terrible. These monsters took 9 months of your life.’ “The greatest revenge you can exact on them is by being happy.” Life is hard and suffering is real, but what spiritual elevation is achieved when we find peace in forgiveness and not in seeking retribution. It is something I am still trying to find in my own life. It is a personal choice and is a long process.

@@MalloryNewcomb Rachael had very stable upbringing and parents who believed her, emotionally intelligent and emotionally mature parents who included her on important discussions. Who gave her space to heal from her ptsd and showed real empathy and compassion for their child. Who was not so brainwashed by a church that they’d just blindly go with what it says. This helped her to see clearly without mental fog and to not normalize abuse. She was also 15 when it happened and not 6 like Kyle stephens. This made a diff in her ability to understand something seemed off. And even Kyle knew something was off but the adults failed her. Rachael’s supportive parents and husband were and are everything as to what made it possible for her to fight the good fight that she fights to this day

@@Adelicows How much do you understand about Trauma Psychiatry?? I am a physician who has studied psychiatry and impacts of trauma psychiatry on people's development and coping mechanisms later in life. I've taken numerous CME courses on the subject of trauma psychiatry, studied numerous behavioral psychology books and lie detection books amongst others. I have also 20+ years of experience of listening to survivors of childhood abuse and sexual abuse in particular. Even more devastating are the consequences when 1. Its your own parent or sibling that molested you 2. Laws protecting biological parents send known molestation victims back and forth like a ping pong ball to their abusers to get abused again and then thrown back in a shitty shelter again ( i witnessed this happen in 2003 in Florida first hand at a shelter I volunteered at) There is much evidence into how ACES in family of origin can lead to devastating consequences and normalization of things that are not normal leading to repression and suppression of extreme traumas that then manifest in behaviors that are internalized and come out in negative ways. There is much research into how poor family of origin and feeling dismissed unheard unseen leads to really unhealthy behaviors such as borderline behaviors of self harm, over people pleasing and overly stuck state of dissociation and indecisiveness and poor sense of self and identity and boundaries. I've seen these responses in numerous victims who when they were raped and molested even when it was not by their family member they were dismissed and it led to even more devastating consequences. The critical role her parents played in helping her see to her healing and supporting her DID MAKE a huge difference in the personal power and strength of herself. Often times in survivors of child molestation when they are not believed it leads to devastating psychological aftermath in themselves and they are often living their life not thriving but just surviving. This is at the core part of Rachael's central thesis in her memoir of this trial and part of the reason she has stated she stood up to Larry Nassar. She knew she was strong enough to do it but many were not and their voices would never be heard if they did not have someone who had been in a place of healing to step up and make the first moves. This was very CLEARLY stated in another video and numerous interviews by her. SO YES IT MAKES ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE that her parents BELIEVED HER and SUPPORTED HER!!! People don't just develop strength from thin air and personal will. Their is both external and internal influences that influence our personal power in society and hence forth our ability to function. In the absence of support systems it can get very isolating and lead to even more pain and devastation for a survivor. Just look at the difference of Kyle Stephens story whose father committed suicide and didn't believe his daughter for years. Talk to any number of child molestation survivors on crisis textline or in real life and they will have a very different outlook. Many of them when they are not able to heal before being traumatized again often keep getting traumatized bc psychopaths often sense the vulnerable and choose their targets according to certain traits. They plan methodically to find people in a vulnerable position. Only this time Nassar made a critical error in judgement bc Rachael was neither 5 or 6 like Kyle Stephens, nor was she weak since she grew up in a more mature family environment rather than an unstable one. For reading references on effects of trauma on people who don't have those sort of supports to heal faster, I suggest you look into the work of Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk (Body Keeps the Score), Dr. Petere Levine, their institute NICABM (look up their youtube page here), and Dr. Nicole Le Pera who speaks to Trauma psychiatry at depth. That is just for starters.

Es P YOU are the one saying they should have done something, not me, so I asked you to backup YOUR moronic disgusting judgement of assault survivors with a clear and specific statement of what you would do differently in that position. YOU should be able to elaborate on YOUR idiotic claim. That's not my job. You're the one making stupid claims. Predictably, you are incapable of elaborating on what they should have done, because you're apparently the kind of person who goes around spewing criticism at others despite being too ignorant or stupid to have any idea of what they could actually do to improve their situation. And yes, your rude judgement of assault victims for not reacting the way you think they should (though you clearly don't have any idea what they should have done differently) is clearly a disgusting attempt to discredit them. What pathetic excuse for a human being you are.

First, half of what you wrote is incoherent fragments. What are you, a half-illiterate twelve-year-old? Right, why even ask, your maturity level is clearly FAR below that. I don't need to make comments about how angry and misogynist you are. You do a fantastic job of calling attention to that all by yourself. So your answer is that people who report abuse and are ignored should stand in the street and scream and cry and throw a tantrum. Why am I not surprised that you're stupid enough to think that would accomplish anything? And kill them? Oh, great, yeah, MURDER is the perfect answer. Murder, how heroic!! It take a pretty sick freak to go around advocating murder, and not just advocating it, but saying it's the definition of heroism!!! What the hell is wrong with you??? I used the word "survivor" in a correct manner. I'm sorry you are so poorly educated that you are ignorant of that word's meaning. I am not sure when you think I "posed as a hero" or what attention you think I am getting, other than the attention you yourself are giving me in your disgusting, filthy, bigoted, comments.
@jglobetrotter28306 жыл бұрын
I did not consider it heroic to report abuse. I considered it my duty. In fact, legally, I was required by my employer to report it (though I would have anyway). I didn't cry about how no one was helping, I simply stated the sad fact that those to whom I reported, who had the legal authority to remove the child from the situation (police and CPS) did nothing. I was not making myself out to be a hero of any kind, I was stating simple facts. It sounds like you have never been in any a situation involving abuse, and have zero empathy for anyone who has, and ZERO understanding of how our society or legal system works and somehow think throwing tantrums and murdering people is the answer to everything. I called you uneducated because you blatantly displayed your ignorance by arrogantly disputing my CORRECT use of the word "survivor." I'm sure you have access to a dictionary. Go look up the word next time before making an utter fool of yourself by defining it incorrectly. But of course you won't, as you are sadly not just ignorant, but willfully so.

A place of power instead of feeling ourselves slowly dying inside as we continue to suffer the consequences of abuse we’ve suffered. The one saving Grace she had is she was not also a victim of parental family of origin abuse and they were emotionally intelligent people which gave her a lot of privilege and ability to heal. What makes her special is that she used that privilege to fight for those who couldn’t knowing others did not have her level of privilege as an attorney and supportive parents and spouse. So many in place of privilege just sit back and look on and move on. She chose to speak up instead of hide it and fight for them which is why I come back to her book so often and her speech so often for inspiration. I often wonder like she once did if my voice will ever be heard for the years of psychological abuse and financial abuse I faced and threats of physical abuse I faced for years til I was driven to extreme ptsd and joblessness

Unfortunately to drag it out to a judges decision, you do still have to bare your sole and relive all the horrors though while you testify to all the criminal elements again. 90% of civil lawsuits are settled vs it going to a judges decision, so for you to act as though you have any right to Judge her based off of settling shows just how pathetically ignorant you come across with ur smug ass statement. Is it just me or is this video quality terrible? There is no pause or buffering going on yet the video appears to desync and lag a bit. It's driving my crazy trying to watch this.

Larry and those like him are common. They are in your family, your school, your neighborhood, your work place and we need to do better. We all need to be a part of education, and prevention of child abuse. Most of all, believe them when they tell you it happened!!

What an articulate, well educated and beautiful human inside and out. I didn’t think I’d be able to listen to the full speech, but the way that she chooses her words has made it easier than it should be considering the circumstances. I hope that she finds peace and a way to move on from this evil

Everything she become in life has brought this out. It took someone trained as an advocate to be able to have the tenacity to endeavour the torment of the last year. I feel for her and what she given up to bring this evil man down. I just hope solutions happen with at M.S.U. and Gymnastics. Boycotts or people speaking out like Shawn Johnson has. Of course Rachael didn't know. How was she meant to know that there were all these others? I hope that after all of this, something has changed. I hope the screening process has had an overhaul. Rachael, you and the others have no fault here. He is at fault. Everyone who enabled Larry Nassar by not taking appropriate action is at fault. They all let you down, and they should all be ashamed of themselves. We believe you. We hear you, and we are listening. Sending you all so, so much love. Keep working at it. You're going to make the world such a better place by using your voice.

I'm just like, how is Larry's attorney a woman...
@donaldholderdoc29103 жыл бұрын
I believe the one you are referring to is a court appointed attorney.
@SMald873 жыл бұрын
She probably needed it I mean Lawyers are not guilty of the crimes of the people they defend and they also need to put food on the table but what lawyer would risk their reputation in this case?? I don't believe he would've even had a lawyer if it had not been appointed by the court ?
@donaldholderdoc29103 жыл бұрын
@@SMald87 Well one things for certain. Whoever is representing him he is paying for. The federal court froze his assets pending "any and all" lawsuits filed since his federal conviction. Plus his Ex-wife filed for immediate divorce and 100% control of assets at her disposal prior to his Federal conviction. SO not only did he abuse 100s of you girls but he also screwed over his family. No college funds, luxuries they were afforded by his high pay was all but gone.

Man I tell you what, I've been bingeing these vids since I didn't keep up with the case at all and I have to say that these statements were all delivered with with such eloquence and grace, especially given the age of most of the victims. Really fucked up guy, justice was delivered.

I’m not a Christian. I’ve had some fairly unpleasant interactions with certain Christian sects. But this woman’s words show how Christianity was supposed to be practiced-to be *lived* - in a way I’ve rarely encountered. I really admire her.

Hi Juniper. I'd encourage you to look into the bountiful evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That's what played a big part in me converting. I found out that God absolutely does exist and he's amazing. He can extend his forgiveness to you too.

“Put friendship in front of the truth.” That is such a powerful statement. That is how cliques are formed in society’s schools, jobs, relationships and the infrastructure of institutions. This is the corroding and insidious element that is behind authorities at work, schools, churches that prevent victims from speaking out. It’s what separates humanity from forming trust and loyalty. Well said and thanks for the courage it took to act and advocate for yourself and others.

I first heard this years ago but it still gets to me if not more now that the numbness of 12 years on my life has withered away. The abuse descriptions of silenced voices and wondering if anyone would ever care of my own stories of abuse and pain as I still suffer daily for it while my abusers both familial and in professional place get away with their actions. I’ve said it for 4 years but Rachael is a true American hero as a lawyer negotiator and abuse survivor and woman and child of god and advocate.

What an ending this was! Relevant, eloquent, brilliant! In all of this, one of the main things I'm left wondering is how many males were molested by this pos, yet are afraid to come forward. I don't think this is the end of the devestation left by Larry Nassar, MSU, etc.
