Re-watching this episode made me realize 1998 was the best year of my life. I was finishing up 7th grade about to go into 8th. That summer was some of the most fun I ever had. Hanging out friends, just walking around the neighborhood seeing what kind of harmless mischief we could get into. What a fun time to be alive.

I was in the Georgia Dome that night at 12 years old. It is the most electric crowd/event I've ever been a part of. The whole crowd was chanting Goldberg from the moment the bell rung until they were in the car on the way out. An absolutely insane moment to be part of.

Not gonna lie, I had to check when Goldberg's streak ended. I was expecting a DQ or some other wild madness, but not a pretty clean win for Goldberg! (Yes, this is Almost 25 years old, but I don't know all matches or title changes of that time).

The only downside is that had WCW not been impatient, they could have set an all time PPV buy rate for the Hogan/Goldberg match... Instead, to counter WWF pulling ahead in the ratings they gave it for free, yes winning the ratings war that week, but ultimately starting them down the path of of losing the war.

@Kurt Paulsen Im hindsight, yeah it would have been better to do it at a PPV & get a good number out of it, but they wanted to counter Raw because the Austin vs Kane match drew a huge TV rating. So the Goldberg & Hogan match being given away on TV was an answer to that.

Went to meet my now wife in Prague for the first time in 2021.. got badly sick while there.. reliving the war was there for me.. I proposed a few months after I left. We had to save for our wedding, took us over a year to see each other again.. we got married our next meeting. I watched reliving the war, the day of our wedding while she was downstairs getting ready…. This series has been here for me through everything. My terminal illness is getting worse and my wife is with me in the US for the first time, she’s asleep.. and here I am watching reliving the war. Thank you Wrestling Bios. Watching this live on TNT as a kid was unreal. I never got PPVs, so seeing a world title change hands was a rarity. I'd been cheering for Goldberg since he debuted the year before, and he finally made it to the top just a couple weeks before my birthday. Good times.

Same here. Mondays after ppv's were always crucial because i had to wait all day just to find out who won and who is the champion and who got screwed. My mom let me watch wrestling on cable, but wasnt paying for ppv. So the goldberg moment being available to see live when it happens meant so much.

Goldberg winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship felt like one of those endings to a story mode for a character in an arcade game. I also agree with Heenan being Goldberg's number one supporter, The Brain was at his best that night, especially the "Who's next? Who cares?" response.

I really like hearing you talk about how far you've come in the series during these iconic episodes. I've never watched the actual episodes (I was born in 96) but I've watch a lot of retrospectives and listened to week by week podcasts. Yours is second to none. I appreciate you telling us what really happened instead of the tired WWE or internet narrative like "WCW only had WWF's biggest stars" or as little as "Disco Inferno wasn't over." The best series on KZbin easily. May Das Wunderkind be with you.

@richspeck8932
@richspeck8932 Жыл бұрын
@@rdrouynriv I still don't think he concussed Bret with that kick and even if he did, it wasn't what ended Bret's career. Bret continuing to wrestle for months after with a concussion ended his career. Which is incredibly stupid when you have a guaranteed contract and can sit at home and still get paid, but I agree Goldberg was being a bitch over the chops. Whipping Hall into the ropes like that could have seriously injured him just because he chopped you hard in a wrestling match
@wonder-games3579
@wonder-games3579 Жыл бұрын
@@richspeck8932 He most definitely didn't wrestle for months. He had the match with Goldberg in December 1999 and had his last match weeks later in January. Also Bret's guranteed contract, still greatly deducted his pay due to him not wrestling and he eventually got released for it.
@richspeck8932
@richspeck8932 Жыл бұрын
@@wonder-games3579 Not true. Watch his shoot interview about it. Plus he was in the NWO 2000. And still doing house shows. And he would have lost zero money for sitting out hurt. Lanny Poffo didn't wrestle a single match for WCW and collected every penny of the contract he signed. Every wrestler that decided not to do the invasion angle got paid their full contracts to stay home. I don't know where you came up with that, but a guarantee is a guarantee.
@richspeck8932
@richspeck8932 Жыл бұрын
@@wonder-games3579 And even if I'm wrong about months, it's still quite stupid to continue wrestling for even one month when you know you have a concussion. He blames his stroke on Goldberg. Maybe it would never have happened if he didn't continue wrestling and took even a week off, but he didn't. That's on no one but him. And I'm a huge Bret Hart fan. I just don't think it's very professional, especially when you pride yourself on your professionalism, to publicly blame another professional every single chance you get for ending your career and giving you a stroke. Especially when he's pretty much the only guy I've ever heard talk that way about the guy. All anyone else ever says is he was a huge mark for himself. But if we're being honest so was Bret

I'll never forget that episode of nitro that was so amazing and they created a star that night. This is what they should've did with sting at starrcade not the silliness that they pulled off with sting

God, what a time to be alive. I had no idea 13 year old me enjoyed the classic DX segment and Goldberg winning the title on the same night. There is no chance I got any sleep that night.

This Nitro was one of the best man. I first watched it once when I was 15 a few years ago & it was amazing. Forgot the politics & internet as you said, because this was Nitro's grewtest moment in my opinion. Also that RAW/Goldberg Mashup is low key great. Good job Nitro's hourly Ratings Hour 1: 4.4 Hour 2: 4.5 Hour 3: 5.6 That 3rd hour was a MASSIVE jump

I watched every video on this channel. Monday night was a bonding night for the boys in my foster home. You’ve helped me relive that and I will always be grateful to you though we’ll probably never meet.

One of the greatest moments in WCW history and one of the funniest moments in WWF history happened on the same night. The Monday Night Wars were something else.
