How do you feel about this reel now? Thank you for your reviews.

Thumbs down. I can't seem to work the brakes for consistent casting. Maybe I suck at Centrifrugal braking reels? Lol
@THEREELTEST4 жыл бұрын
So yeah they changed the brake hub color to red and put the "on" lettering and a change. One thing that needed changing too was that their brake "tabs" were too small.. not enough surface area to cause enough friction against that brake ring. Maybe your reel got an upgrade on that too, we will have to wait till your on the water assessment.
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
That is good that they have made the changes you have suggested. I will probably do a lawn/play ground test via frogging tomorrow. I don't think i'll take this to the nasty swamps, since i unspooled my Speed Demon Pro for more line, i will put the old line on for some testing. likely more than enough since the spool is smaller. If i can spool myself, that will be great. The bearings tho.. caked with lubrication...

Not all reels are built for the same use. High-speed reels are often used for pitching and flipping. This makes long casting distances unimportant. Power and strength overrule casting distance. You make thousands of short cast a day and the faster you can get your lure back the more casts you can make. When you do hook a fish; you can get them out of cover and in the boat faster using a strong drag and high-speed retrieval reel. It is also unimportant to have a large amount of line on the spool as well; because the short casting distances require very little line. Looks like you have bought a great reel for Flipping and Pitching to Snakeheads.
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
Totally subjective to every angler. I have played with different speed reels and for snakehead fishing, especially from the banks, you gotta have distance. Its make it or catch less. This is almost always the case when fishing in spots where there are tons of anglers. Now for me being on the kayak most of the time... i don't care for the extra distance. The speed and power is certainly more important. This reel looks too good to be in the swamps tho... haha
@poopjeans11352 жыл бұрын
I have found with lower ratio reels 5.4 or 6.2-1, it can be difficult to catch up to your lure on a boat. I do some bank fishing as well. There are Lilly pads 150 foot, 50 yards out. If I don't get a strike, it's nice to burn that bait back quickly. Also, while slow rollin a chatterbait I never feel the blade stop working with my speed demon elite, which happens a lot with the slower reels I mentioned.

Also I swapped out my cork grips from my Spartacus reels with these reels and be carefull when you do. The clicker for the star drag is a very small spring and bearing under the reel handle. My first one feel off lol took for ever to find it. Just an FYI if ya change your handle lol

Dude I agree. Not a fan. I caught my first bass today just over 3lbs and a pickerel over 5.8lbs caught on this reel. Felt like I was bringing in a whale. Extremely hard no torque gonna send it back. A 1/4oz bait felt like a 4lb spinner bait coming through the water

For those that have this reel, I got my two lefty versions the other day, and they are a little different than my other 6 Kastkings. Two are the older speed demons and the rest are the assasin and 3 spartacus models. The difference being the star drag on the side on both of my new ones, have movement in them and a my tension drag knob I have to tighten it all the way down to keep a 1/2 oz weight for zooming to the floor. This is with the magnet stems turned on all all them under the side plate and with the side plate drag number on a 9. I know it has a different drag system than the older models, just wondering how everyones reels are doing.
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
you said tension drag knob... do you just mean tension knob? Depending on what i fish, i don't even use tension... for instance, frogging. I tighten just enough for there are no wobbling left and right of the spool and rely solely on braking and my thumb so I can get max distance casts. For this, the lure certainly do come out fast... extremely fast. don't think it is a problem for me. I just did a cast testing with a frog lure and i can cast extremely far. I spooled myself with 80% capacity. I have a good feeling i can spool myself at 100% capacity (40 lb braided line)
@PTWNSLGR4 жыл бұрын
@@rawrfishing yea the little tension knob that you adjust to add drag or less drag on your lure when your casting. All my others I can set right in the middle but on these two I have to tighten all the way down. I try and set all my reels as close to one another as I can lol but, saying all that it will flat out cast a 1/2oz lure almost to the point of spooling the reel lol so its all good. Just different than my others. I was more worried about the star drag knob being loose than anything . Thanks for the reply.
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
The little knob is called the tension knob. It adjust spool tension, not reel drag. Its was confusing at first to hear you say drag but I get it now. Anyhow thats interesting. I don't use my tension that tigut unless I need do skipping. So it will likely not be a problem for me.... but i will keep an eye out. Is it causing you any problems?
@PTWNSLGR4 жыл бұрын
raWr Fishing naw no problems and yea it’s not the drag, lol I know the difference my problem, at my age if I’m thinking about 2 things at the same time, well they both come out in speech or written form. No issues, I just practiced with it this afternoon after work. Also it flips great . Thanks

awesome! i'll take it out on the kayak tomorrow finally! so it'll be fun! just spooled on 12 lb mono for typical bass fishing. we'll see how far that will get me before i go back to braid LOL

I have the original speed demon. Not the pro, but the predecessor. I have used it for the past 3 years as my frogging reel as our frog season is short. I use it probably a dozen times a year and it has held up fine. No need to upgrade and the speed has been great to haul Bass out of the weeds. I would like to see you use the elite to frog fish as that ps what that speed is intended for. Thanks in advance Jimmy.

i jacked that OG one to like 9 brakes most of the time and spool myself. was good until i destroyed it via trying to get a frog from a tree... the tree won >_
@AdamMiharaFishing4 жыл бұрын
18lbs of drag is fantastic. I love the EVA paddles. I'm concerned about the gear teeth and the amount of plastic holding the gears/spool in place. I do NOT like the brake system. Friction in any system is a bad idea for durability. I want you to frog and fish slop with the Elite. That is THE test.
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
That indeed should be a test, but a long term one. Fall is here and the fishing season is going to be different. I can for sure frog with it in the next spring and summer. I fish them snakes out of them crazy cover
