I only use it for throwing Frogs but got a speed demon elite last spring i put it on a 7"2 extra heavy Defender rod by Favorite. I love the speedy retrieve i was able to get bass out of thick cover really good. And i was able to cove more water by being able to more quickly retrieve my lure after it's no longer in the strike zone. I do really like this reel. My only problem is that the breaking system is a bit of a hassle. Let's say I'm throwing a River 2 sea little Allen frog. But thin i change over to a spro bronze eye frog. I will have to make small adjustments to the breaks or i may sometimes get small line overflow. But i don't have that problem with magnetic breaking reels
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
That's why I don't like the reel. It was supposed to revolutionize the speed demon line up but it ended up being terrible. Hope they will have dynamic braking via magnets on the next one! They do have several dynamic magnetic braking reels atm

I returned my old reel and just got a new replacement. This one is much much better than the last. Idk what happened to the first one that came in but very crunchy under load. One of the shoes for the brakes broke. But the new one came in 2 days after I returned and it’s 100% better very nice reel. But would I buy another absolutely not lol

It's a learning curve that's for sure because it depends on your braid lb you have on & then your bait you have the weight of it too...So if you throwing a jumpin minnow usually a 3/8oz you got to adjust the reel to it too. So no matter what you got to adjust your entire reel depends what braid lb you have on & your bait lb...
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
totally a learning curve. I took this reel for a few spins for lighter lures.. the tuning have been so difficult as it's never consistent when you keep swapping off lures. I think i'll keep this a frogging reel on my Frogging rod! makes life easier lol.

"newb" question, does regular oiling with something like Quantum Hot Sauce make much difference in cast distance? I have a 40 year old Curado that outcasts my new SDE by 20-30 feet, but I haven't oiled either, and I made the same adjustments you showed us. Thanks for the help!
@rawrfishing2 жыл бұрын
Curado breaking system is better than kastking's, so I am not surprised if you are casting further with a 40 year old reel. Other things to consider are spool weight. Oil can possibly impact casting as well. I already retired my SDE as I wasn't fond of the braking. Was not consistent enough for my liking
@dougsparks662 жыл бұрын
@@rawrfishing ugh, I bought 2 :(...My fave river slot takes a major cast to get to the other side and these just won't cut it, so I'll retire them to a couple kokanee trolling rods. I did use it but I broke 3 in one season. It was good for snakehead fishing as I had powerful hook up. But it seems fragile. My dobyns is over a year old now and almost 2 and have no issues.

Should the frogs with the blade on the back sink in the water?
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
Yes. It dangles on an angle. It allows fish to strike at where the hook is at rather than the head. This allows better hooksets. In addition, it pushed in more in the weedy area so the fish can actually slurp it in

I'm looking to get a reel to pair with a 7'3" Dobyns fury for targeting snakehead. I use frogs almost exclusively. I'm between: (1) KK SDE, (2)Abu Garcia Revo SX-RXT, (3) Abu Garcia Revo Rocket. Which do you recommend? I do all my fishing from shore and mainly in canals w/ heavy cover.
@rawrfishing3 жыл бұрын
I am starting this season with the sde for frogging. I like it so far with 50lb daiwa j braid x8 . I also slapped some bearings in it. Can't spool myself like the speed demon pro... but its a heavier duty reel than the predecessor. I have no comments In regards to the other two reels as I never used them. I was thinking a daiwa reel for my next frogging setup tho. 🤔
@christophercaproni25293 жыл бұрын
@@rawrfishing I don’t think there’s a Daiwa out with 8.1 GR or above and max drag close to 20. The zillion TW has 15 max drag but is $400. Don’t know how it would hold up with big snakehead in heavy cover. Do you really notice the difference of the 10.1 GR on the KK over an 8 or 9?

What is the advantage of having that high of a gear ratio?
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
Reel in faster line! Whether it is to recast or to haul a fish in out of cover. That's really it..
@AgneyaKulkarni4 жыл бұрын
@@rawrfishing So it is purely down to preference? Because for spinnerbaits or crankbaits you would want a lower gear ratio as you have finer control over the speed of the lure.
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
It's both. Definitely a technique driving reel, but it's always going to be the choice of the angler. If it falls under the style of fishing you like, then fast reel might be for you! You don't want slow speed for flipping and pitching into cover. you want to get your lure into there and get the fish out asap. Frogging, you are on top anyway, so it's easy control. and for any other high sub surface lures, you are sight fishing anyway, so if you see blow ups and blitz, you want to get ur lure back in asap and make your next cast. pretty much what you said too. For them cranks and them treble hooks, you want it slow going and heck you may even pair it with more of a moderate power rod! What sort of fishing do you like to do? Do you do any of the things I have mentioned above?
@AgneyaKulkarni4 жыл бұрын
@@rawrfishing I primarily do BFS fishing in London. I go for perch and pike using soft plastics. I found I prefer a low gear ratio reel, I currently use a custom T3 SV which has a 6.3 gear ratio.

hey bro! I just wanna ask you compare this reel with Speed demon pro. value for money and feel when you retrieve is smoother? and compare is centrifugal or magnet 9 pin more easier for light weight ?
@rawrfishing4 жыл бұрын
The Elite is definitely smoother and feels more refined; however, adjusting your reel to cast is much more different and difficult on the Elite due to the Centrifugal braking system. You must dial in both the tension knob and brake to effectively cast lures. I have not casted any light lures yet. I think i'll leave small light lures to my BFS reels and mid size spools like my Tatula 100.
