Dave you are a legendary guitarist who still has what it takes to Rock n' Roll. Brother Ray still has the magic as well. Thanks Dave and Ray for 50+ of amazing playing, singing, writing, recording, and touring. You still have the goods. I hope you two original members from day one along with founder member Mick Avory will again preform as the Kinks. There is musical magic at work in that band. Think back to how you felt about music in say 1963/64 and channel that for this day and time. The new records that Ray and Dave have recently released are very good! I think many of the solo tunes are in the spirit of the Kinks sound. Those songs and ones written for a new Kinks record would fit nicely into a revived Kinks. I'm 60 years old now and I love music as much as I ever did. I love your work as a solo artist and that goes for the Kinks as well. I hope you see fit to bring the Kinks to us old fans and many new ones as well. I think you and your brother along with founder member drummer Mick Avory should bring the Kinks to life again. Not only for the 50+ Anniversary but to also embrace your solo careers. I see a new Kinks album as a bridge that pulls everything from the first Kinks album to now together. You have a body of work that is second to none.

Ray has been interested in musical theater for a long time. The band performed Preservation as a kind of theater show back in the 70s. I did not see it, nor have I ever run across any footage of the show, but I think Ray was trying to expand the rock concert format. He took Townshend's "rock opera" concept a step further by adding actual characters and a story line to the live show. Ray seems to have been rather proud of it at the time, but since the idea didn't really catch on, and even the Kinks abandoned it, that effort has been mostly forgotten.

Right, and Ray always talks about a "ban" in America. It was really in NYC due to issues with unions there. If they wanted to play in the Midwest or West, I'm sure they could have. It wasn't like they were on a terror watch list and the whole country banned them out of Washington, DC. If The Who could play the US, then so could have The Kinks!
@theglavine Жыл бұрын
@@KoolKatDave They were banned by The American Federation of Musicians. What part of 'American' does not compute with you? They could not perform in America and missed out on things like Woodstock that wrecked their career in the US. If the Who had been banned when The Kinks were, they'd have been toast in America since they did not even have a Top 40 hit at that point but started gaining momentum from 66' on.

@thomaspick41235 жыл бұрын
Reunion? It will not happen. As Ray mentioned, perhaps a one off without fanfare at a bar. Dave, I believe is married and lives with his family in America. Pete died. The Kastoff Kinks perform sometimes in England and are great. Mick Avory on drums, John Dalton on bass. Revolving keyboard players. It might happen with a visit in this format. Ray has made surprise visit with the Kastoff Kinks.

I've finally figured it out. For the past few years. Whenever I see Ray in interviews. I can't put my finger on who he reminds me of. It's Ozzy Osbourne. He doesn't sing like him, but in interviews, they look and sound like brothers. They both seem frail, have that blank stare, mumble and stutter and come off a little senile. No offense, I'm not trolling. I'm a huge fan going back 30 years. He's a criminally underrated artist that never really got the worldwide fame that he deserved. Ozzy burnt himself on drugs and alcohol, Ray on the other hand has always been a little difficult to watch in interviews. He's always seem uncomfortable and shy. He definitely hasn't aged as well as Pete Townsend, considering they're the same age.

Nope, can't see it myself, neither physically or any other way. Ozzy is a frazzled shell of a man with a fried brain, while Ray Davies still looks in extraordinarily good health.

Underground906 I agree with you. Most of the kinks’ fans are out of reality. I like the kinks, but their music are initially beat like the Beatles already played when the kinks came out in 1964. The others songs are music hall style except Waterloo sunset in perfect Beatles sound. But the kinks never played songs like psychedelic songs from the Beatles like Tomorrow never knows or heavy like helter skelter or others hard rock Beatles songs. Many kinks songs recall Beatles songs released first. COME ON NOW seems like I feel fine (released three months before), SEE MY FRIENDS traces the rhythmic basis of ticket to ride that sounds like a raga in the part of the McCartney’s solo guitar. DEAD END STREET talks about social theme after the Beatles talked about it in Eleanor Rigby. YOU REALLY GOT ME is a great song, the first Hard rock ever written, but the Beatles played like a similar YOU REALLY GOT ME sound from the 1963 during their concerts: listen to the sound that the Beatles played in Money during their Swedish tour or the TV exhibition at Liverpool Empire 7th of December 1963, that everyone could watch on tv. You should talk about kinks and appreciate kinks, they are a great band. But when you compare kinks to the Beatles, you must learn and study the Beatles songs before and when they were released.

@martinpaulson31796 жыл бұрын
The Beatles had to write only a few years worth of songs, and with no less than George Martin and all the musical resources that money and super duper stardom could buy to enlarge their sketches into state of the art pop. 2 Kinks, Ray mostly, had to produce decades worth of songs, mostly on his own. Do the math as to who produced more with.much less.
@martinpaulson31796 жыл бұрын
Beatles were much less original than Ray as a writer. John was emulating either Elvis or Chuck or Dylan, Paul was Little Richard or Cole Porter or Brian Wilson. The All You Need Is Love goop was Summer of Love me-too-ism. Ray is A true original. Never followed fashions or trends. Had his own vision. A true artist. Years later, it becomes even more apparent. McCartney is now just a schmaltzy joke.
