G-D did I love that guy. Charming, obviously brilliant, and endlessly fascinating. He was like one of those old Russian gentlemen. And it was impossible for me to believe that he WASN'T Ryan's dad in that movie. Completely encompassed the role.

The scene in Lost Weekend where the bat kills the mouse and Ray's Don reaction is what likely scored him the Oscar because he reacted the way a intoxicated person would react to a hallucination like that.

16 years is quite a long time. He was nearly 50 in 1955. He was 64 here and he looked his age.

My late father was born in the same town. but 12 years later. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Milland It's a great view of the past. I'll be 60 later this year and can remember the fuss about it. I moved to Venice Beach, California in 1985 and saw Ali McGraw in The Merchant of Venice Cafe. Radiant!

@@lukeboyce2521 Yeah, but sometimes it just happens. I don't know if it was purposeful in Milland's case, but it often isn't. Some people, being around a different accent day in and day out, they start to lose their own.

If you listen carefully you can hear it in certain words. Even in The Lost Weekend (briliant film btw) I catch the welsh accent it in a few of his line readings
