Fun fact; black mascara is the only ‘dance’ song in the record cause her label only really allowed her to make dance music, which isn’t what she wanted to make. So this is her last dance record as a fuck you to them, also, it ties into hard out here and the person who she really trusted that spiked her

I watched a few of her interviewes recently and she said about 60% of the album was written over the past 7 years. Alot of the songs were supposed to be apart of the albums her record label never released. Her original contract was for 4 albums and she sadly never relased any albums. I can only image how much material and songs she is sitting on. I cant wait for her to get the recognition she deserves. ! Also the little girl on the album is her little sister.

OBSESSED with all the genre bending and the album being called “My 21st Century Blues”…. 👩🏽‍🍳💋 she didn’t let herself make only blues music. It’s HER new modern spin on it. Also, Blues is very present in so many other genres like jazz, rock, R&B, etc. which are all genres she hit on this album (excluding rock)! Plus she’s so good at singing other genres so it’s just perfect.

Her and Mike Sabath made some of these songs years ago. She make worth it at age 19 i believe, wrote ice cream man when she was 19 too but rewrote it after the experience at age 21. Five star hotels and Oscar winning tears are quite old too.
