I normally don't comment but being a indie developer as well as working for some major companies(EA, Blizzard and NCSoft) in the past I feel the need to weigh in. What makes people feel that they have the right to tools that other companies spend millions to produce for their internal products? While yes this tool is great (had a friend that let me try it out during development) there is still a lot of programming that happens that they did not mention. There are just some things that you have more control over by modifying the code directly. Yes yes you can drag and drop art assets and dynamically alter textures but most current engines allow you to do the exact same thing but yes some do require plug-ins for smart textures. Also the character logic was programmed by hand. My point is if you are an artist that makes amazing art and want to learn game development do just that LEARN GAME DEVELOPMENT. Part of that process is learning to code. If you are 100 percent committed to wanting to make games then you are going to have to stick with it and not expect a easy way out. Start small. Its a ruff business but if you are an artist you have the hard part done. You are the driving force behind game. Your art is what people see. While its true my code gives your art life, your art is really the magic, at least in my eyes. Anyone can learn to code but it takes time.

You know being a dev and artist myself I agree with you. People don't understand the technical effort that goes into this. I kind of wish they could release this as like an actual game kind of like Mario Maker. This looks like it has more potential.

Even if UbiArt is only free for non-commercial use, I would LOVE to be able to use it. Everything about it looks awesome, especially for artists.

I want to build an Blu-Ray-Ultra based x86 game system that does 2D games only with beautiful detailed graphics at 120fps in Ultra Definition. I'm tired of 3d games.

Where do I throw my money to get this framework?
@serpinio10 жыл бұрын
Throw it at Unity3d (or don't, there's a free edition available). Unity 4.3 now does 2D too and supports gragging and dropping sprites into the scene. Then get Ferr2D plugin from asset store to be able to build levels just like they do in UbiArt, then write your own Character controller via rigidbody or CharacterController component or buy one from the Asset store... And there you are. UbiArt framework-like Unity3d. You can edit levels in Playmode with Unity too, btw. At least that's how I'm using it and it's pretty much like UbiArt. I gotta say, this black guy must be the most annoying show host in the history of the Radio.

This petition is completely ridiculous! Moronic blasphemy! If you never made a complete game in your life and think to yourself: "Well, with *this* tool I will finally turn my idea into a game up and running in no time!" - no, you are lazy and will never succeed, you will drop this engine exactly how you dropped the previous one you tried or you never tried any because you were too lazy to even try and lack what it takes to make a game on any engine at all - perseverance, courage and motivation. It's about you, not about the engine.

Maybe not a game, but a level is possible!
@mbartelsm9 жыл бұрын
The point of the petition is not that, is to give the chance to artists, not very familiar with code, the chance to be able to make games. Right now, if you know coding but not the art side you can still make a game, an ugly one but still a game. But if you don't know code then that's it, you'll never make a game unless things like this are released (not necessarily open source, but at least a public release for people to buy the engine)
@MuradBeybalaev9 жыл бұрын
Miguel Bartelsman "But if you don't know code then that's it, you'll never make a game" That's it. This or any other engine is not going to automagically program itself.
