Every time I hear Genes sing this song as well as other songs my heart melts. I've been in Love with him and his music science I was 14years old and went with my older sister to hear him in Houston. Ive seen him science in Bronson and in Texas. I'm praying I get to see him me more time. He is truly a fantastic entertainer with an outstanding voice. And he truly loves his fans. God love you Gene we love you so much for sharing your beautiful voice.

The A Team IMO make the show! So glad to see from an archived clip he's kept all three through the years! That's the kind of guy Ray is! And thanks for posting this as it's one of the few actual conversations with a Team member Sherry Smith! Looked for it again to see what her connection had been with George Jones! (Fun fact: Ray and I attended rival high schools and his first band gave our team its name!)

Little Jimmy Dickens actually recorded this first. Gene has the best version

That is correct! Eddie Stubbs made me aware of that back in the late 1990s before I got onto the internet. He played Little Jimmy's rendition of the song. He sang it as a midtempo song and, of course, Little Jimmy's version didn't include the big note finish like what's on Gene's famous recording of the song. Also, the steel guitar was a huge part of Gene's recording.
