I remember a time before internet and his show was one of the only ways to see cool cars. Classic.

I can't get enough of this YT channel. Dennis is a treasure, his enthusiasm never wanes, and his car knowledge is extensive. Always a fun watch. That green color is awesome. Never knew Ghia did a different body style for this car, and really, never knew it even existed. Thanks for my continuing vintage cars education, MCCTV!

I’m the same way. I NEVER miss an episode. I have a lot of YT subscriptions, and I’ll scroll through them picking and choosing what to watch, but I NEVER pass an episode of Dennis. Solid gold content. Knowledgeable. Educational. Period.

Also…I love that it’s “man on the street” style interviews. Jay Leno kind of does some of that, but in the shop. I wish Jay would do some of this at car shows. Nice work, Dennis!

To the best of my knowledge, that mint green color was popular from the late forties to the early sixties. I think I remember the guy saying it was a European only car…that’s probably why NONE of us have seen it before…not even Dennis!

I used to see a few of these when I was growing up in southern California. Cool cars, and more rare, but I actually do prefer the original more common Karmann Ghia's looks. But this is a beautiful example of this model/design for sure.

Me too! In fact when he mentioned they were rare I was surprised because there were many in SoCal in the 1960s.

Really enjoyed the two videos I’ve watched so far, thank you! I’m restoring a ‘64 1500S T3KG as well and like the ‘no nonsense’ approach of sharing the build process. I like your well-lit and uncluttered shop space too. Bravo - I’ve subscribed and look forward to more.

I drove a 56 VW Bug in High School that had that same steering wheel center cap. It brought back memories because those center caps all cracked like that over time (probably just to sun damage and wear and tear) and mine looked identical to that.

This type 34 was orignally designed for Chrysler. They declined it. The Karmann sold the design to VW. Still a good looking car. Not that rare in Brasil though. No air cooled VW was ever matching #. Period correct numbered.

These are also known as the Volkswagen Type 34. Between 1962-69 VW made over 42,000. They were sold in Europe, South America & Australia. Rust ate up most of them. You can find lots of them for sale online, many of them are in the US. I owned a 1973 Karmann Ghia that was an Arizona car so rust wasn’t an issue, and it was well made and extremely reliable. The only downside to it was it was slow, it was happy cruising at highway speeds, it just took a while to get going.

The manufacture Karmann built the body known as ghia. Like Fisher builds the GM bodies. Them were sold VW. The type 34 was a new design to replace the Ghia as we know it in the states ( type 3). These were popular in Brasil. The owner kinda fibbed a little though. There is no such thing as matching # s engine and trans for VW. They were built in two seperate locations . Then shipped to VW to be put togther at the assemble plant. They use the term period correct. He might have the original engine and trans though. VW didnt keep detailed records like we do today back then. Even the " Birth Certificate may not show the engine. Or trans #s. Its a bueatiful looking car, just not as rare ss they are talking about. Still a great low models that made it to the states one way or another. Most came into the U.S. by returning military. Check out the type 3 notchback. Kinda like the sane story as this type 34.

It sure looks like a Michelotti design, and is more modern in detail than the famous K-G. I remember seeing one in the salvage yard of an iconic volkswagen repair shop in North Central Florida in the early 1980s. Now it's time for you fiberglass repro guys to make some more bodies. So cool.

Cool VW ! The front end reminds me of an early 60's Plymouth design with the body lines. Take a look at the 61 Belvedere by Plymouth. Even the side view / window lines look similar. Just a thought. Thanks Dennis. !

I can’t speak for the USA, but I can confirm that the Type 34 Karman Ghia WAS sold new in Canada.
@jossip1171
@jossip1171 Жыл бұрын
You´re right. The Type 34 was not officially imported to the US ( for what reason ever). But servicemen, coming home, could bring a car of their choice for free to the US and thus a few of them found their way to the States.

Might '1964 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 34 Razor Edge 1500 S' be the longest car title in the world?
@Timberwolf69
@Timberwolf69 Жыл бұрын
Well, back in the day, they called them "Volkwagen Karmann Ghia 1500 S", the "Type 34" is the internal nonination by VW (nowadays often used by VW enthusiasts to shorten things up) and the "Razor Edge" is one of the nicknames of that car. There are surely cars out there with a longer official name.

Hi Dennis, thanks for showing us this car. However, I saw one of this particular ones many years ago at a junkyard around Atco, NJ then another one in excellent shape at a car show also in NJ. So the fact that they were never imported to USA makes me wonder.🤔
