We did RB30 vs 2JZ engine block comparison, now its time to test and compare their little brothers. The RB25DET and the 1JZ-GTE engine blocks.
Please note, we are only testing the bare block, no other ancillary parts that go with it.

Thanks for the video and the objective numbers! One correction: the video says deck height, but I think deck thickness is meant. The deck height is the distance between the crank centerline and the top of the deck, essentially the block height. This is the main difference between a 1JZ block and a 2JZ block: the 2JZ block is the taller of the two.

Great video again guys. The 1JZ was designed by Yamaha for Toyota, as a replacement/upgrade to the M series Toyota six cylinder engines. The 7m gte which came in the JZA70 Supra was a great engine but suffered from overheating, head gasket and head stud issues where the head would tend to lift at high boost. As a die hard RB man, these videos are heartbreaking, but give credit where it's due, the JZ engines are monsters.

@@_i-kr6eg I was thinking about his comment, and maybe if you run a big oilcooler as you would in a performance car, and stay off the throttle, you may get enough cooling from the oil. I´m on the fence on this one. Ive been on a few events where they empty a car of its fluids, (oil and coolant) and put a rock on the gas pedal until the engine siezes, they usually go at rev limit for a couple of minutes still. Out of the coolant and oil, the oil is the most important. Many people fill their blocks with concrete for drag applications, including my boss, and he has had no problem with it, think he still has a little bit of coolant left in the system though.

Skyline win because their 4wd system that no match for rwd at exit acceleration from corners but toyota begin with e503 aka 2.1 liter 3sgte which dominate JGTC 500, jgtc 300, WRC, even pikes peak rod millen 1000 hp use e503 engine. Supra with 2jz is never win any competition because the power delivery too wild,

Hmm I found that video very interesting. I understand the rb25 block is heavier than the 2j but fully built isn't the rb25 engine still considered lighter than the 1jz? Thank you for the video!

I'm at 540 whp on my 7mGTE and had nothing but great reliability with my 7mGTE and 7mGE motors in the past but the 2jz is just a better built motor and has been proven that over the years. I like em both which is why I also have a GS300 with a 2jz for a good reliable daily driver.

@@Shwalker07 I'm my experience, it has always been an issue of ignorance or the inability to do a proper costly engine build to to have a reliable 7m. 1000whp is easy if you know what your doing. So far 1750whp is the most I have seen and still going strong on a drag application. By far the cheap and easy way to make power is JZ. It's really the engine for dummy and overly proven.

@Tex 13 Good point! It’s a matter of nostalgic pride for me and boredom of the 2JZ since being around them from 92’. When you say I make 1000whp+ out of a JZ it longer is special and know one cares much now a days. You tell people I make 1000+whp from my 7m, your suddenly the most interesting man at the car meet. I love to test a 7m block just like they are doing in this vid with the same tester to keep the consistence in the data to these tests. I will be a while until I can. Here are a few things I can recall. The oil inlet is 18mm vs the JZ 15mm. The 1990+ blocks are the way to go because they were much beefier then the previous ones. The change was due to what they learned from Group A racing. In fact in 1991 the Supra with a 7m took 1st in the 12 hours at Bathurst. Those 90’blocks have some really big supports on the bottom ends. Also the 7m does come with slightly larger mains and bigger heads studs over the 7m. If your goal is 700whp max reliably and want the cheapest way to get there, go JZ. If your going past that and want to make big power then the cost on both engines will be similar. You have to do the same things using a complete array of quality parts and work.
