As one of the first DJs to make it onto the radio, Kool DJ Red Alert was there when hip-hop history began. In this talk at the 2005 RBMA in Seattle, Red takes us through the days when it was a local phenomenon, confined to a few blocks in the South Bronx. He talks about Kool Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and the other legends who laid down the template.
We hear about the records that rocked the block parties, the equipment that was used to blow up the sound, the local stars who thrilled the streets and how hip hop was pimped from day one by a pizza parlour boy who cribbed rhymes from his friend to make the first record.

That was the truest purest most accurate accounting of the origins of Hip Hop history I’ve ever seen! And I was there! PLUS! The interviewer asked the absolute best and proper questions! Bravo

Peace to all my old school hip hop heads. Brooklyn born, raised in Queens I always would break out the gold Maxell tapes and record Red Alert, Chuck Chillout, Marley Marl, ya know the deal. That started my adventure in DJ'n. The '80s and '90s were true hip hop. I'm 52 now and I still do my thing for my people. My name is DJ DML. Hook up with me on my KZbin page for some DOPE mixes and remixes of 80s and 90s hip hop, R&B, funk, disco, house, freestyle, and much more mixed in a way that is authentically fresh. Let's go back in time. Peace! KZbin page link: kzbin.infovideos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=1 Soundcloud page link: soundcloud.com/user-978260200 😎DJ DML

Nobody ever asks about the culture that produced the need for this street music in the first place. How did people with no drums no instruments create what is now the number one music genre in the world today? That’s a great story!

Amen. Them came 1st... these new generation are selfish & that's why they suck. Very few keep it authentic. The loud the clowns prey on ignorance. So is the corporation that don't know honor or culture to market ignorance. Sad that it is paying off. Passing ignorance on is paying, but honor is becoming obsolete. But it is upto to few to extend the true history really its the few that keeps it going. True hip is not dead due to those few. But those that suck will pass as a fad. Remember the mumble rap it didn't last. Yea it's their turn, till they don't become. Legends, just a fart in the wind. True gods & legend are too humble to put down the sloppy. They are the ones that will last forever. Not these suka Mc's of today. Accept the likes Of Jay X, 50 cent, snoop, ice cube Dre......the last of the real. We need more real. Not these Cornwall mc crappers
