Norway is a country filled with people who have a real ethical character. I learned living there what a remarkably honest culture that is there. They use most tax money to concretely make a difference in people's lives. USA is too often fear driven. Thinks it needs to spend more on its military than the rest of the world combined. President Eisenhower warned us early of this danger. 2/3 of discretionary expenditures now go to its military. A fact not well known by most USA citizens. Highly disproportionate for those seeking a just society for its citizenry. Not a good sign for a nation seeking to keep a moral compass in life. Still, there is hope through people with integrity like Senator Sanders and Secretary Robert Reich...

Hi Purple, what? Old and Older! White and Whiter! Besides Bernie's seething anger wouldn't play well with actually trying to put together a Working White House. It would be Tails to Trump's Heads. We would only have the Opposite Kind of Government that can't get out of its own way. Warren would need to run the show. She is a proven Administrator, where Bernie can work up a crowd... even Trump can work up a crowd, and what good does it do. And Warren should find a Young Black Woman from the South that could energize all the thousands of Young Black Women with Degrees that have gone into Social Work and Teaching. Black Women need to believe that in 8 years the President of the United States will be a Progressive Black Woman. Think of the Energy there. But, Bernie? He's already History. Tails to Trump's Heads. Not something to be proud of, is it?

@leovolont
@leovolont 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Fred, Good! Maybe Sander is not such a self-absorbed narcissist after all, and realizes that For The Good of Humanity, at this crucial time in our History, we simply have to Win As Big As Possible. That is what Hillary did not appreciate, that even if she won her victory would be at best marginal and thereby not worth half a tin-plated phuque. WHOEVER runs needs to bring on board a multitude of zealous, tireless, but well-spoken, and, yes, even Soft Spoken Grassroots Volunteers that can knock on every door in America and Win what will be a Charm Offensive for the Progressive Movement. And, as far as my discernment can envision such a possiblity, that means that the Lion's Share of Volunteers should be Women. Imagine this: you are sitting at your computer table watch Cat Videos, when, Knock, Knock, Knock. You tippytoe to the door (you don't need to tell anybody whether or not somebody is home, right?) and look through the peep hole. If its a MAN.... hmmmm, do I feel in the mood for a good Home Invasion? Nope. and you wait for the guy to get tired of bruising his knuckles and to go away. BUT, if it is a Woman (and in many neighborhoods it wouldn't matter about whether White or Black, but even most Racists don't see Black Women as threatening... thank you Oprah), well, that's different. the worst that can happen is you get a Religious Tract which is why you keep a trash bin close to the door . People open doors for Women. We need Women. Now, yes, guys can volunteer too. What for? Well, the Right Wing Fascists would probably want to physically intimidate the Progressive Door to Door Canvassers. Male Progressives could simply accompany the Female Volunteers to the Neighborhoods and hang back out of sight and keep an eye out for the safety of the Women. And the guys can Lick Stamps and address envelopes and that kind of stuff... and get on Lists for taking Meals to the Elderly and arranging to drive them to their Polling Stations and stuff like that.

I hate to say it but when Obama chose wall Street over main street it set us up for Trump. Because of campaign donations nothing was done to alleviate the burden on the working class and people reacted. This is not about Obama specifically. It's about the affect of big money in politics. Obama showed a lot of insight in his book that was lacking when he was wrapped up in the D.C. bubble. This is especially a problem for our presidents who are so insulated from the working class they fail to see the pain and anger. More people would vote if it benefited them.

Hi Steve, One problem, ironically enough, was Woman's Lib and Women Demanding Equality in the Workplace. In response to the Demand that Women and Men get Equal Pay, the answer was to pay men less, ... it happened slowly, as wages for men stagnated while the pay for women climbed. but after 30 years, when you look at the final result, NOW it takes Two Pay Checks to do what One Paycheck used to do. Women went from Augmenting a Families Income to being a Necessary half of Family Income. Did anybody get what they wanted? Women wanted to be able to Choose to work, but now its not even a choice anymore, is it? Woman's Lib took Women's Freedom Away and lead to them being shackled into the bondage of Wage Slavery. They would need a Woman's Liberation Movement to free them from what they had gotten into with their Woman's Liberation Movement. Life is full of paradoxes, isn't it?
6 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed! & isn't it ironic... this is what we end up with... :( What ever happened to the good old days???
@leovolont
@leovolont 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, Not all of it was good. The Blacks think they have it hard NOW! And the Real Unspoken Issue of Woman's Lib is that Women were forced by Necessity to Marry in order to gain a livelihood. Really, Jobs like School Teacher and Librarian were for 'Old Maids'. In Catholic Countries, if it looked like it would be impossible for a daughter to find a husband, the father would have to come up with a dowry (a payoff) so that some Religious Order would take the girl on as a nun, because it would be unseemly to keep a daughter in the house forever. Reading Literature from the 19th Century will tell you that women were literally desperate to marry before they would lose their looks. It wasn't Love and the urge for Romance, no, it was sheer economic necessity. I don't know why on earth Woman's Lib never expressed it in those terms -- that they didn't want Equality with Men, but the possibility of Independence from Men. But now nobody is independent of anybody in a world where not even 2 paychecks can handle all the bills.

The story about her mother is so powerful...she should tell it as often as she can. it really highlights everything that is wrong about the changes happening over the last 3 decades. A mother with three kids working a minimum wage job today is unsustainable (and a father who had a heart attack, my god the medical costs today would crush them!) Do corporations think stressing families to the breaking point is going to help the country? No...it helps their profits at the cost of human life and happiness.

Capitalism is the most polarized lifestyle that is available. When you need workers they won't do anything without capital that is incentive to work. But when the rich look at the system they don't want to give that to the people. So democracy has to be trimmed and refined to a point that gives a person, rich or poor, want to be in the success of their organization, honour and dedication, something that is lacking these days

Hi Lenard, Life is complicated. One way to look at it is that Berrnie Sanders handed the election to Donald Trump. but, yes, another way to look at it is that, if we survive that long, that Trump will engender so much zealous opposition that we will have a vigorous Progressive Movement take power. How many years will the Progressives simply be undoing the damage created by Trump. and it would take a Constitutional Amendment to somehow get rid of all of Trump's right wing judges (where in the Constitution does it say that the Judicial Branch is the one Branch of Government that would get no oversight, but that it would have supreme and omnipotent power over the other branches of Government. All those Powers and Prerogatives came to the Judicial Branch because the Judges asserted the claim and there was not sufficient push back. We had always just trusted that nobody would ever appoint Anti-Government Anti-People Judges. Now the problem is clear enough).

PhoebeFay RuthLouise oh bullshit. Warren is a pathetic liar and a shill. She supported Clinton in the election, lied about the rigged primaries, tried to pass ridiculous hearing aid regulations that would have hurt the people who need them most, not to mention her using her so-called "native american" heritage to score political points. If Elizabeth Warren is a progressive, she is a pretty poor excuse. I would NEVER vote for someone so disingenuous, and full of shit.

Most people I know can't afford hearing aids, can't afford glasses, and definitely can't afford a dentist-ever. You just learn to live without these things. Oh, and can't afford to go to the doctor and definitely can't afford any testing for detecting or preventing disease. No, Its a lot for most people I know to just pay rent, utilities, auto insurance, and food. It takes all month to pay for these things and then suddenly, the next month rolls around with a day or two break if that and it starts all over again. Rent, utilities, auto insurance, and food. etc etc etc. Man. It would be weird to have extra money for most people I know. Foreign even.

I shake my head when I see these "experts" advise people on how to economize and how much to save for retirement. "Eat out less often" Really? I'm already eating out " never"! And how do you save when you need every dollar to pay for food, medicine, gas, electric, heat? Then you think you're a little bit ahead, and your property tax goes way up and you have to pay on a credit card. I already ONLY buy clothes at thrift stores. If I try to work more than the 6 days a week I'm doing, I get sick from fatigue.

Sanders, another politicians who lied to you, another politicians who abandoned his principles just to oppose Trump. Remember how Bernie campaignes against the rigged system, and the politicans who could be bought off buy special interests. Well in the end Bernie ended up endorsing shillary Clinton, the candidate who received more money from lobbyists than any other candidate. The candidate whose main donor was the financial institutions. Go ahead vote for Sanders, he's probably going to be another Obama, so don't be surprised to find out you have been dupes by another Democrat.

If she is truly serious about getting money out of politics as she says in this interview why has she announced that if she secured the primary nomination she would begin courting the big donors after running a supposed grassroots campaign to get to that point... sorry, but personally that feels even more underhanded than the ones who take those donations from the start.

Hi Paddle Duck, Your "Dream Ticket" is Old and Older, White and Whiter. And it puts a Grotchy Old Man who doesn't socialize well at the head of the ticket in the Year of the Woman in Politics. And it completely ignores the momentum of the Black Grass Roots Movement which is mobilizing over Police Brutality and an increasing level of Social Bigotry. SO! The Ticket doesn't need a Man, especially one that PROVED he was no coalition builder. Bernie had his chance and proved he couldn't out organize the most Unpopular Politician in American History (that is, before Trump), Hillary C. It would be crazy to give him another opportunity to fail. Liz Warren is Great. Find a Black Woman from the South to join with her. The Dems could then use the Vast Grass Roots Movements of both the Progressive White Women and all those Young Black Social Workers and School Teachers -- educated with college Degrees -- articulate and knocking on every door of the Country. Oh, and what would Bernie use for Grass Roots Activists -- those Window Breaking Anonymous Masked Men and those Antifa Car Burners. We need Nice Soft Spoken and Intelligent People for whom People would not be afraid to open the door and talk too. Bernie's Bomb Throwers would not fit the bill.

I love Elizabeth Warren but hardly any of my liberal New York friends want her to be the nominee. They like her as a senator, but they are afraid of her as the nominee for Prez. They think she will scare off the money -- they think the same about Bernie -- and they think we can't win without a lot of money. I don't know how I feel about that. I believe Bernie could win with small donations, like Obama did. Bernie has a track record of success in that regard. (I don't know about Warren -- did she win the Senate seat with mostly small donations? Anyhow, funding a statewide seat is very different from funding a 50-state election.) It's daunting to do it with small donations, but it can be done. Obama succeeded because there was tremendous enthusiasm and excitement at the idea of getting a black President and everybody wanted to be a part of it -- even if it meant they could only send $40. Bernie succeeds at it because of his history and political charisma. Could Warren do it? I don't know. I'm old enough (barely) to remember Eugene McCarthy. He was a great high-minded man but he was a disaster for the Democrats -- that's how we got Nixon. Also, there's the sexism among the big-money donors. The banks would grudgingly donate to Bernie (less than to Trump, but they would give Bernie something, just to have some sway over him), but they might not donate at all to Warren, purely out of sexism. They would think that they could "work with" Bernie because he's a man, but not with Warren because they don't trust women. They think women are less malleable because they don't have any stake in belonging to the "boy's club." As a result women are more likely to dig in and take a stand on principal, and men with money don't like that. It's not fair, it's sexist, and Warren doesn't deserve it, but that's the fear that many Dems have about her. They fear she would be another Eugene McCarthy. I don't know how I feel about it. I am more confident that Bernie could win. I am very confident of that, actually. Bernie could absolutely win -- he would generate tremendous excitement. Many many Dems don't like him, though.

Democrats, turn your backs on corporate money, face the people, our nation's workers. THEY/WE are the ones who will make this country great again. We have the strength in numbers.
