You are probably right! But I didn't want lithium Burns just to save some bits on an RC car, this meltdown was relatively mild, but they can get much worse.

my vxl slash started cogging after some water splashes as well. Replaced the ESC with a Hobbywing. I am lucky I did and didn't burn down my car. But running your car in salt water is just asking for trouble. That stuff destroys anything, especially electronics.

Seemed like there were multiple warning signs -- ESC was going red light and he just ignored and would on/off to "fix it". At least temp it or check voltage. That crazy ticking sound when nothing is moving is a bad sign. Velineon's are supposed to be 3S, but are really only reliable on 2S.

three years later and it happened to me same truck 3 weeks after buying it lol, Traxxas has amazing customer service tho and everything is being replaced free of charge

Sludgey snow is the worst for rc cars, the water that can randomly seep in, plus the fact that sludge snow can stick to your car snd weigh it down, causing more motor stress

My parts arrived for my redcat blackout to crawler conversation so tonight or tomorrow I’ll Mega truck it, dsm bearing kit, stock chassis, new bulk head , silicone ear plugs for diff, Now I just need to finish putting it together then I’ll find or make a mud pit and crawl on 2s

I have no idea why it burned up... Could it maybe have been the fan shorting out?? The ESC is waterproof but I'm pretty sure the fan is not

his gear mesh is too tight. i could hear it from the start. if he has had 3 fires then change the meshing technique. no way a 18 tooth pinion start fires if the stock version comes with 19 for speed runs.

Quite possibly, but they do run very hot on the 18 or 19.

Cutch lock nut was not tight enough Basically you want no slip on that clutch, then when you apply the new upscaled power it will slip For your dif thicker high temp grease

I kept saying unplug it but it is scary to do.. espessially when as soon as touching a wire it flares up again, and the wires are roasting HOT! Major short with those VXL ESCs. Check out my pinned comment for the other videos of the fires we've had with this truck.

Waited long alright to put some wet snow on it. I had a locked up diff, too. It was locked up for no apparent reason. Disassembled, put back together, turns freely again (not the slash's diff, an other one)

Had the same exact issue it was that damn yeah racing fan. I followed the instructions and less than 1 3s battery poof I saw the smoke and got it unplugged before that but still it was probably possibly the fan

I've had 2 of them burn on me. Thats why I moved to castle. I've had that sidewinder fully submerged in a lake and it still lives today.

All esc's work on smoke, the idea is NOT to let it escape. But seriously 3 times ? It happened once to me many years ago with a Novak GTB but that was my own rookie mistake. Upgrade to a Hobbywing and don't look back.

I think it's a design fault with these VXL 3S ESCs... something gets loose on the board and shorts out causing a cascade failure. Check out fire #1 video in my pinned comment to see more of what happens to the ESC.

I’m sad because my slash’s esc is malfunctioning really bad and glitching it ran fine on a NiHM but would not run a 2s, after running 2 NiHMs it was super hot and I put snow on it and it melted In 5s seconds!

As soon as it starts cogging I would of stop pressing the throttle and take it inside to see what is wrong. Many times its a simple fix like a small rock got into the gear box and lock it up.

If you had pulled the plug right away you would have been able to pull it apart and look for the failure. Letting it burn destroyed any chance of finding the faulty part. From what I can see, it looks like a short, which means there is a good chance water got inside of the ESC. If you are bashing hard, you might just be breaking the seals.

Traxxas have been cheaping on certain things. And after what they did to Castle Creations.. making it almost zero profit for the motors esc that traxxas got from them.. its bad to as you put 3 fires. Is not just bad luck..
