don't throw the shaft in there. clean it by hand. its easy to do and you don't risk scratching it up against other metal parts. it will ruin it and cause your shock to leak slowly if you get any scratches on it at all

The ultrasonic cleaning doesn't scratch a shock shaft in any way! Gotta remember it's solid steel and it doesn't scratch too easily!
