If Motor placed in middle of board, after CG calculations, so it can fly or not ??? Actually, am Beginner in this field, I also build same Prototype with same dimensions 30x20 on cardboard sheet, but am confused where i mount motor, I don't want to mount front side, bcoz i don't want to broke my motor and Propeller:-( so i want to mount middle of the wings, but i don't know it will fly or not. Please, suggest me where I mount Motor?? Thanks in advance ☺️ Regards #maksynthhouse

Foam sheet flying....well sort of, I wonder if a small bit of foam put on the CG point would give it enough lift so you could fly it level.?
@icarus9018 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video -- it confirms I'm over thinking things : The simplicity of the build underscores just how few components are needed to fly these days. Do you have any videos that cover the transmitter, motor controller, battery, motor, etc? I'm interested in a bare-minimum-to-get-started type of breakdown. I'm getting into this maybe 20 years after wanting to (very different world with LiPo, lightweight cameras, etc - FPV?! magic in 1996), but I figure it's about time.

@SammSheperd8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Hefner Hello, I go to Walla Walla University. We are a kind of small private school. But we have a large engineering program and aviation program. I am a pilot, but I am not pursuing an engineering degree. For engineering, we offer Civil, Computer, Mechanical, and even Bioengineering degrees. However not specifically Aeronautical, I think a lot of people do mechanical and then get a masters in aeronautical, but I'm not sure. I primarily use my iPhone or my Mobius camera.

Sir, will the motor have to be tilted in this plane also to cancel the opposite torque of the motor?
@tobangafeufeu8 жыл бұрын
Do you have the electronics like the motor 'swappable'? Like can you take the motor to another plane or are they permanently sticked to the airplane and you have electronics for every plane?
@SammSheperd8 жыл бұрын
+tobanga feufeu I could remove the motor pretty easy. But the rest is stuck on with hot glue so that would be kinda annoying to put on another plane real quick. I plan to fly this plane to its death and then put the electronics back on another plane.

+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) but when you want extreme angles on your control surfaces your pushrod (when its long) is touching the surface of the stabilizer or wing (never knew it until i builded a giant boxcar at school and somebody on the forums said that :p) i dont think it makes alot of difference but that little thing was what I recognized (plz check my channel out if you want!) keep up the great work

Hi Samm. I tried a trainer and a flying wing. Neither worked. I am starting to think I am seriously under powered. Would you be so kind as to tell me the details of your power system? I am using the cheap combo from Amazon, A2212/13t(1000kv), 30 amp ESC, and a 1500mah 11.1v 3s battery. I can't get off the ground, and I am becoming increasingly frustrated.
@SammSheperd8 жыл бұрын
That seems like a fine power system. What kind of propeller are you using?
@brandoncooper46808 жыл бұрын
It says EF8043 on it. It's about 8 inches total width. The guy at the hobbytown said they would work.
it's cool that you have a local hobby shop. Sometimes they are overpriced and unhelpful, but hopefully thats not the case for yours. I usually use a 10x4.7 prop on that motor, which would give you much more power
@brandoncooper46808 жыл бұрын
Samm Sheperd Speaking of unhelpful, I've just discovered that I've had the props on backwards. Dude told me "always numbers forward". As a former A&P mechanic, I feel like a total ass right about now!

Hey Samm First: could i also use the cg calculator with the metric system? Second: I rebuild this Project in a much smaller version but my CG is in the middle and so i have to put a lot of weight on the front to bring the CG to his point where it have to be. What could i do that i didn't have to do so much weight on it? Is it a big problem if the cg is near to the middle of my first selfemade airplane? Greets from Austria and sorry if there are mistakes in my english Markus
@SammSheperd8 жыл бұрын
+Markus Koidl hello! Yes the CG calculator works with any unit that you use, as long as you use the same unit for everything; it's all just a relationship between numbers. You can cut the front of the wings so that they sweep back, that will move the required CG farther back. And/ or you can try and reduce weight from the back. Putting extra weight as far forward as possible is also fine. CG is the most important (and most overlooked) part of building a plane! A properly balanced brick will fly much better than a plane with the bad CG

@SammSheperd8 жыл бұрын
If cut the leading edge back and made it delta shaped, then you could afford to move the motor back a bit and mount it mid body or even at the very back if you added enough weight to the front. Use the CG calculator in the description to enter the geometry of your wing shape and it will tell you where it NEEDS to balance.
