A truly insane record: The world's strongest 700-size R/C helicopter lifting 30 kg (66 lbs). And there's much more to come! Now, to avoid a misunderstanding: The HULC project is NOT about setting a helicopter weight lifting record. Instead, its highly ambitious goal is to LIFT A HUMAN PERSON! That heli sounds insane bad ass with all the power in it. now for those wondering why so long line from heli to weight is due to fact if anything goes wrong, pilot has lots of slack to control helicopter. now for your next challenge Tobi, I would gladly fly to your place. I will sit on a carpet in Prince of Persia Getup :) and two of these Hulc helis must lift AliShanMao on that carpet so we can finally give the world a Flying Carpet :D oh next step up on that challenge is that i will be sitting on that carpet flying with those two Hulc Helis and I will be flying a Quadcopter to shoot all Aerial footage of this stunt :D you in? keep me posted :D

ah hah hah hah very innovative and great as always Ali :D We're already checking online carpet stores ... any preferred color? You're booked!! (and yeah yeah yeah, great about the add'l quad for simultaneous aerial footage - we'll shake you a bit to make it more fun ;) True also re. rope - each length has it's advantages and disadvantages. HULC project is NOT about weight lifting; for the real stunt we absolutely need the long rope

Thanks a lot! Yes, power to weight ratio of helicopters beats the multis by far, also speed is much higher. The "downside" (well, not for all true heli guys) is that you need skill to fly them. While multis can be pretty cool, many will agree that it's good to see a heli on that upper end of the rope :-) We wish you some nice holidays!

Theoretically that's correct, but there is a whole number of factors influencing lifting power (and also limiting it) to a greater degree. We'd thus prefer summer! :-) Would make lipo handling easier, too - packs had to be pre-heated significantly until right before take-off

True, for nitro engines cooler ambient air is better - not only that there's more oxygen for the combustion, but also heat dissipation works better and thus increases engine efficiency. The overall efficiency of nitro engines, however, is still just about a 1/3rd of an electric engine (depends of course). So especially in R/C industry electric has an edge over combustion, that's one reason why they're so popular. Thanks for some cool technical thought from your end marek
@HeliGraphix
@HeliGraphix 10 жыл бұрын
We simply refer to the physical definition of degree of efficiency. Electric motors will reach 90% and more while I/C is far far below. This said, achievable peak power in electric R/C models is much higher, too. Actually, what you see in the video is the world's most powerful 700 combo (= still a true model helicopter) to date! Just look at the specs ... ;)

Thanks! Theoretically yes, and that's one of several reasons why we chose NAZA. In the video it's flown in manual mode, i.e. zero level/GPS stabilization. Turning on the stabilizers leads to bad oscillations under load conditions. But there's a lot you can do in the software - we'll have a look at that later. Hopefully it works, would be great

What was the thrust force of these copters???
@HeliGraphix
@HeliGraphix 5 жыл бұрын
About 30kg of usable power. You need more to keep it maneuverable, though, and to have a safety margin. This said, at such a power level you can only fly for about 50 sec.
@kareemsalessi
@kareemsalessi 5 жыл бұрын
@@HeliGraphix Because it lifted 30 kg ?? I meant what was its maximum thrust-force, and how did you measure it, other than with the lifted weight???
@HeliGraphix
@HeliGraphix 5 жыл бұрын
@@kareemsalessi Kareem, the goal was to lift a human person with two such helicopters, and all development and testing was focussed on this. For us this was not a number and theory game (although we did calculate thrust and parameters in order to be able to design the motors), but a defined goal we had worked towards. As said before, I'm sure it'll be interesting for you to watch the behind the scenes video in the channel. It'll give you a good insight and maybe also clear up your questions. Happy flying!
@kareemsalessi
@kareemsalessi 5 жыл бұрын
@@HeliGraphix After my above question, I read your response to another question below, that the copter had a power of 10 kilowatts, which translates into a Thrust-Force equivalent of 1,019 kilograms force meter/second (kgf m/s/power), as readily available from online calculators, thus amounting to a Thrust-Weight-Ratio (TWR)===1019/30==34 which also corresponds with a full-size helicopter's TWR, such as that of the latest Chinook. Does that make sense??? You can find such converters in Google:: "Convert kW to kg-m/s - Conversion of Measurement Units"
@HeliGraphix
@HeliGraphix 5 жыл бұрын
Actually that would be a rough metric but which has little use for the actual flight performance as there are loads of factors (such as type of gears, efficiency, blades and airfoil, tail rotor (swallows lots of power), type and characteristic of engine, etc etc etc etc etc). Oftentimes you need to make assumptions for calculations and the usable thrust does not only depend on the aforementioned "internal" factors, but also varies with in-flight factors e.g. engine and ESC load, battery voltage, pitch angle, plus several external factors such as air density, temperature, and so forth. Look Kareem, I'm not sure what is your intention or specific question, but really that's all we can say here. It's complex in detail, we believe to have a good understanding of helicopter physics and we've reached the goals we wanted to reach. Maybe watch the video recommended before as it may contain additional info of value for you. If not, I guess this is where we need to call it a day.

Shorten the cord and it won't lift, maybe.
@HeliGraphix

+Edgar Parts Shorter rope: harder to control (that's why it's longer). But: with a shorter rope, as the heli comes closer to the ground, it will lift even MORE due to ground effect influence.

So how many kg can one heli lift
@HeliGraphix
@HeliGraphix 3 жыл бұрын
Just over 30 kg. You need to leave a bit of a margin for maneuvering. It would not help to lift even more and then have no control any more.

@HeliGraphix
@HeliGraphix 5 жыл бұрын
In the equipment video we talk about stripped gears. Just check out the cannel, you cannot miss it. This said, it's less about the choice of a material, but about the choice of a material in combination with the design of the whole drive train. Besides, don't forget that platic gear does not mean it's bad quality. Delrin is a plastic, too.

is this legit?... if it is please use these motors to make a jet/propeller pack. the motors only cost appox £300 so with 4 (3 to lift the person and 1 for an huge battery and harness) that would be £1200. then all of the other things needed like baterys and a harnes would definantly be no more than £1800 this would mean you could make a small light porable jet pack for under £3000. if it is legit it strikes me as wird that know one else has done this before.
