Passed the do no exceed speed on the down side of a loop at high throttle setting. I first saw this at QUASAR in Vegas years ago.. A couple of guys were flying large Pitts Specials. Full throttle through the loop. One survived. The other , top wing ripped off followed by a spectacular crash.

Well it sucks but it also kinda part of the hobby. Having said that, I just chose TF giant spitfire over this model and am happy for that. He is not even using a petrol engine so airframe is not subject to much abuse. I see some QC issues in there.
@locowerke7 жыл бұрын
What a shame, such a lovely model, too! Would be curious to know if it was previous damage that caused the failure, or poor material used??? Thanks Pete. Cheers, Dougal

Was that a 60cc brushless motor up front? :-)
@kobusvanderlinde94314 жыл бұрын
I would like to know that as well. It sounded like a gas motor but what the heck are those huge Lipos doing there ? That is a lot of weight, maybe that's why the wings folded.

I've only purchased 3 airplanes that came from Seagull manufacturing. (.75 Decathlon, 20cc Mustag, 60cc D7). All 3 came with defects from the factory. Not giving them a 4th chance to rip me off.

Probably a result of many bad landings earlier that stressed the wings to a point were they got weaker and damaged. I know there is a weak spot on this wings. Should be more reinforced from the manufacturer

That was just not enough G to end up like that. Bloody ARTF!!! Never did like that join position. Just outside of the wing root is about as bad a place to put a join as you can get, so no big surprise. Having said that, I fly a heavily modified Hangar 9 P51D 150. It weighs 12kg (should be 7kg) and runs on a Saito 220, and its fast. The reason it weighs so much is the glassing and metal skin, And its gets thrown around more than this one did. I guess one piece wing also helps.
@stephenpatton86905 ай бұрын
I don't care; the wings should be reinforced. There is no excuse for this to happen on a scale rc plane!!!
@richardallen83555 жыл бұрын
Looks to have failed at the retract. Possibly not reinforced very well, especially for the G's he looked to be pulling.. Throttling back after completing a loop is always a good thought.
@markwison42864 ай бұрын
He was doing a stop sign. & if your glasses are up to date, you can see he already changed angle before the wing failed.

I am sorry for the loss of a beautiful airplane. This spring/summer we have had several in flight failures of ARF's at my club. One was a obvious design or manufacturing defect. The spar caps instead of being continuous had a simple butt joint/seam with no reinforcement and they put that joint right where the spar tube ends. The spar broke cleanly right there at the weak spot. On another plane the gear ripped out on an otherwise good landing. Upon inspection we saw that the mounting blocks were half the length they should have been. The ribs were notched to accept longer blocks but apparently they didn't have the right size wood so instead of mounting the blocks to three solid plywood ribs they were only glued to two balsa ribs that were heavily notched for the gear wells.

Im just returning to the hobby after 20+ years. It is sad to see all the throw away foam planes and it is almost impossible to find a true kit anymore. Guess thats what happens when everyone gets a trophy. Throw away society.
@coopereaton52634 жыл бұрын
Foam board planes are more popular than ever and more versatile most of the time. I can’t think of a single Flite test plane I can’t build in under 3 hours go fly and decide to build something else with the electronics all for under $100

Ruining? No. While sadly the art of building is dying, these are bringing new people to the hobby. I have a young child. Would take me 10 years to build a kit with the little time I have. With an ARF, I can get it put together quickly and enjoy flying more.

Have to agree. I have built many great H9 kits in the past, a couple for myself and the rest for my club mates. Sadly quality has gone down hill fast in last 2 to 3 years. We don't touch them now, their loss not ours.

I actually own several Hangar 9 birds and have never had a problem. Any failure is generally mine. :) I wouldn't throw them under the bus over just one incident. They're still better than most out there but hey, that's just me.

So no specified rating from the manufacturer? Like 3-4 Gs? I would think models could have an approximate rating for their wings' structural integrity.

Now pack up the pieces and send it back to the manufacturer and demand that they replace it, it was a structural failure that was the fault of the manufacturer. If they're credible the will admit the mistake and replace it.
