I like what you did but you should have used a washer on top of the O-ring for the leafsprings or the smallest leafspring. That way the O-ring doesn't pop off.

Two things. Number one...you didn't just do grinding with a motor tool with no eye protection. I KNOW I didn't just see that. Two, when grinding on the springs you should do so a little at a time to really try keeping the heat out of them. If I'm holding them as shown I will gently grind (not bearing-down and creating "red" metal at the point of contact) until I feel warmth in my fingers (NOT hot). Then I swap ends and work on the other end until I feel warmth, then grab another spring, rotating through until they're all tapered how I want. These leaf springs are REALLY easy to make brittle and they like to break where the holes are punched through to mount to the axle.

@@montanacrawler2675 yes, they didn't get hot because you approached the challenge correctly. Worth mentioning such potential pitfalls because many/most would have at it and suffer the consequences. YES SIR on the eye protection...you've only got the one pair of eyes!

Eye protection is not enough when grinding. As a matter of fact neither is regular clothing. As a long time industrial fabricator I can share some horror stories. Each spark off the grinder is actually a hot piece of metal. If you wanna talk 100% safety you need a leather hood, leather jacket, leather pants, leather boots, leather gloves, and a full face shield. Or if you wanna virtue signal, point out a half assed safety approach and call it a "warning".

@@johnbasterson7938 You're right...if you're not going to do all of it may as well take no precautions at all. Have done lots of grinding in industrial situations myself, heavier stream of sparks, more protection. When I'm using my Dremel for these tasks the spark stream is exponentially smaller and more predictable/controlled. My safety glasses and make sure nothing flammable is on my work surface. 45 years and zero days lost to Moto tool injuries.
