Tip for working with old rattle can paint is to soak the can in a bucket of Hot Water for like 15 mins or so before you use it. The Hot Water will warm the solvents that have settled to the bottom of the can making it easier to mix and it will make the paint lay easier too. 👌 Also maybe do a Matte Clear Coat on the body so the rust doesn't eat into the paint. Just bc that part broke doesn't mean it's a "bad design", don't beat yourself up, it's just one of those unforseen things when you're build your own parts. Now you're into the revision stage where you refined the design! 👍👍

I do the hot water can trick too. It works mint as fuck on most sprays I've used.👌🏻

When wet sanding, add a drop of plain dishwashing detergent. Really helps keep the paper from sticking, and keeps panels clean. Definitely a little aggressive on paper grit! 6-800 is my go to. Using primer/ filler first should remove most of those lines. Then you could coat with colors for patina. Just a thought ✌️

Not my favourite shade of yellow but it came out looking cool as fuck👌🏻 especially the PITA grill😎 One thing I've been trying instead of sanding is a bit of thinners on kitchen roll, then steadily wipe through the layers. It seems to be a bit gentler than sand paper burning through. The other trick I'm trying is put the base layer (rust paint?) on. Then smear grease on the sections you want the base visible and built up your top coat colours. Once dry, wipe the grease off. If you build up multiple layers, it can leave a paint ridge like you see on old vehicles where the paint has come away. Have fun experimenting, RC Legends👍🏻

I like that idea of smearing the grease under layers. Kind of like the chipping fluid method. Might have to try that out. Thanks brother!

so 2 months ago i 3d printed this body, today i spent 11 hours cutting a 6 piece chassis out of 1/8 steel plate only to find out you have a kit. FML i could have saved myself a bottle of Tylenol and burnt body hair😭

Not trying to armchair quarter back. But I would get further back away from what your shooting. Two, even three dusted on lite coats. The primer is going on too wet and too close and that's a possible reason for the long dry time. Careful cleaning, no solvent or finger oil and lightly sanding any surface gloss off the part before any painting. You want it grease/solvent free and the pores open on the plastic so the primer has adhesion. AND high humidity is NOT your friend when it's to paint.
