As a Tamiya fan, there's actually nothing better than building a Kyosho re-re kit. The Beetle re-re is also fantastic and they've updated all of them so they can take brushless. Tamiya could learn a lesson from that.

Looks great Gavin!!!!. Back in the day when one of kids on our street shall we say!! Got a kyosho buggy it gave me the chance to see one up close obviously. As I’ve commented on Glens channel when he done a kyosho project the quality is indisputable compared to most Tamiya kits. I guess for me back in the day the prices they were put them out of my reach. Another thing for me as well was when you walked into the model shop and the shelves were stacked with all the kits the Tamiya box art was just something else!!!. It was definitely a trick that pulled me in!!!. So here I am at 48 years old still being dragged in by those. Tamiya boxes😂😂😂

Take a comperable Tamiya-Car and add the price for the ballbearings an you come very close to the price of the Kyosho. Both are at the same quality- and price- level. But Kyosho has more tuningparts in the kit. Tamiya's kits leave the choise to the driver. If you want to build a pure shelf-queen, you may save some money with tamiya.

I can hardly wait to build mine. I got the LeMans bushlesss motor and the LeMans brushless speed control. I got those because they look like the older Lemans motors. The machine work on the Lemans brushless motor is amazing. I will also go with the belt over the chain. Also every so often, Kyosho has a sale. This usually includes free postage. I got more tires with a hard compound for pavement and more wheels too. Also the instructions on Kyosho kits can sometimes be difficult. The English they use sometimes needs help. It can also be very funny too.
@chitsoi45184 жыл бұрын
I'm building mine with brushless motor, I'm thinking to put up the belt instead of getting the stupid expensive chain coz I don't believe the chain will handle the brushless speed well. How's your belt/result?

I know this is old and I didn't read all the comments so it's probably been covered but Kyosho named parts like this so you could simply order a unique part by it's number without having to look it up (OT = Optima Turbo / spur 6 etc). Kyosho also share parts between kits but then the part designation isn't kit specific.

You should have gone with the belt system as it's much stronger and doesn't stretch as much as the chain does and in the 80s belt system was optional as it's much stronger. Love the built video 😘😘

The chain was for a bit of fun. At some point the belt will go in for me to try as well. I do like the look and it feels smooth today.

Very nice been looking forward to seeing this build for a while. I cannot comment on the RERE car but BITD the chain was always a pain for stretching I was forever adjusting the dam thing. When I managed to get a belt drive conversion kit that all stopped and car was way more reliable. My current 1980's runner is belt and its great I have no issue with stretching or slipping at all. its one of my favs for a bit of garden/park RC bashing. If you like this as a build any plans to add its sister car a RERE Ultima.
@smellurfingerrcdejesus91765 жыл бұрын
I never thought of that issue of a chain stretching sounds like a issue though your favorite RC with the belt I thought the rubber would stretch that's why you ask other people that had them what problems they had what they had to upgrade what they stuck with is it worth buying thanks buddy
@davidchapman56945 жыл бұрын
Hi paul Anthony. The 80s optima chains were a pain. The links used to stretch and sort of end up an oval shape . In really bad cases the chain would start to bind. The belt conversion transformed the car. The belts are pretty tough I have never had one stretch or snap. All 5 of my optima/optima mids all have belts that are 30 plus years old and they still run great. With no issues.

Great video, I remember this car being on the front cover of my first Model Cars magazine when I was about fourteen. General question though, what drive train would be most efficient, shaft, belt or chain?
@jaybee66952 жыл бұрын
"Belt driven gives you less friction, better rollin and is more stable. But it is more problematic with dirt. So for the parking lot the shaft drive is definitive preferable. For competition choose belt drive." "Shaft is definitely more efficient. Belt is smoother and a bit easier to drive, especially with high powered motors. Shaft is pretty buletproof." "One of the RC mags did a head to head of shaft and belt -- Yokomos, I think. Results were inconclusive and lap times were almost identical." "It was Kyosho TF5 carbon. They have a belt & shaft version of the same car. Results werent collated very well, but overall feeling was not that much difference, belt being a bit better in corners (no torque steer)" good question, i found this

Hi. I know this is an older video but I have a question. You said you bought the optional chain? Mine was missing the the chain so I bought one thinking Kyosho just left it out by accident. There was a place on the blister pack for the chain but it was empty. So yours did not come with a chain either? If so, I don't feel like I got ripped off. I know it might say in the instructions, but I have not built mine yet. Thanks.
