Its amazing. I don’t understand why they are not circling around with full flap, gear down, cut idle, and bring it in nice and slow all the while using throttle to adjust speed and rudder direction. If you are straight there is no need for ailerons or elevator of your level on approach, and if you are not, you should circle around for another attempt.

Yeah for real most of the mistakes were easily avoidable, and I don't mean it in a condescending way. When your plane starts to nosedive then counter it with some input! Then again, those pilots are old so maybe they simply lack the reflexes

How did I miss this for so long?! Great compilation Horst, and I love how you give the cause of an accident - when I saw that La-7 go in I was just about to say what happened - and you answered it! Very sad about that one, but happy to see only 1 mechanical failure and only 1 write off! Amazing saves and some great luck (and some bad luck too!) Thanks for sharing!

Hello my friend. No problem for your delayed comment. I know that it is difficult to watch and comment to all the videos uploaded from my friends. As you can see, I've missed your comment as well :) As a model pilot I hate to see planes crashing. This video shows once more that on tricky wind conditions things becomes even more difficult. _Happy flying to you !!!_

I've been a scratch builder since 1987, I've built from Ziroli plans, and if what I see in this video is a year worth of bad landings? All is good, don't be a critic of something you don't know. Well done. AMA member.

I've made some of the same mistakes when learning to fly jets. Like not flaring at landing but instead flying it into the strip, making it balloon up. It's hard to see so many landings at that field doing the same thing. But everyone here seems really supportive of each other! I'm sure everyone helps and teaches each other here. Good people and BEAUTIFUL planes! Some of the landings were perfection! Including some of the deadstick ones. Great video!

I notice that pilots here often seem to rely on elevator and aileron while landing with thottle on idle where they would have far better results controlling height with throttle and correcting heading with rudder only
@Steve-nf4jx

I know right. When they are about to land they pitch up, and then pitch down with the elevator. So they have a greater chance of crashing. Thats how most of the planes on on this funny moments thing

It's exactly what's taught to manned pilots. Keep wings level (if no cross wind) use rudder to control heading and keep Tue back pressure till she pretty much stalls onto the runway. It's tricky with these light rc aircraft though. Well flown though

A lot of the pilots are forcing their airplanes in the glide slope, if its not in it its not in it. And a lot of em refuse to go around after a 4 meter bounce. The white jet should have gone around. The pilots got to practice a bit more.

+Kian Tabrizi I feel the same way - its like none of these guys have ever landed an RC plane before. I have never flown ones that big before though, so maybe its different, but there was a lot of bad approaches going on here. Its like they were all far to rough on the sticks, no finesse whatsoever.

may be worried about fuel, a lot of people time when the fuel is about dry so the know when to land. possibly not planning enough slop in.

Clint Smith That is a good point. Its probably similar to electric flight, but you get way more time to fly with gas.
@kiantabrizi4864

That may be true but I feel like it's more of a spend all your time building and no flying then going to fly a warbird without any practice.
@Vbluguitar
@Vbluguitar 8 жыл бұрын
Kian Tabrizi hehe, that could be too. I learned to fly on a PC simulator and practiced the heck out of it. Then I slowly moved up from micros (started with the bMSr and Hobbyzone champ) Once I had those I started going up sizes. But all that startup time got me to where even my larger 55 and 60 inch wingspan warbirds usually come home in once piece. I actually haven't lost a plane in about 10 years. Well, one on purpose, but I don't count that one.

never seen so much bad landing skill at the same time before. I flew scale model planes for several years in my teens, and these are some pure rookie landings. most of them are coming in way too high, almost missing the whole strip.

Maybe, but bear in mind it is effectively an outtake video, if those are the worst moments of a years full flying,... I'm guessing the pilots are all human after all ;)

ZagadkaTeg from the sound of the audience I get the feeling that most landings are merely controlled crashes.

It's easy to say that when you were probably flying a 40 size trainer in your teens, but if you stayed in the hobby long enough, and you managed to get the skill these guys have - flying aircraft worth thousands of dollars each - then I think you would have had a different view.

Pilots have a saying... Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. when flying an RC that makes pretty much ANY landing a good landing, lol!!

Amazing video, these have always taught me to land and take off with rudder, not to bank and yank then suffer the same fate as these planes lol

I'm a helicopter person but went to a scale model airplane fun fly to watch, talked to some of the people there and found out they build these things from scratch , I mean blue prints and wood, some have real radial engines worth thousands. These guys are not rookies. It takes a lot of skill just to build one of those things. If they get it down in one piece it was a good landing

They are ready to fly models. The fuselage at least, is allready made and many of them, have nothing to do other than put motor and electronics. Even with this work left, I saw a couple of models clearly with bad CG position. Thousands of dollars models have nothing to do with person's skills.

RCScaleAirplanes If you show me the mold from which they made their fuselages it would be much quicker, no? :) It would be even much quicker if you asked them. I dont think they have the nerve to say that they build them from scratch. Nevertheless if you google you can find dozzens of companies, from USA to Fillipines specialized in composite rc models. Scratch builders are a rare species now a days, especially in this giant scale.

Guardian Observer Buying a fusealage means RTF for you? You're right. All planes shown in my videos are RTF's and after purchase them, it's enough to charge the (already built-in) batteries and fill up the tank. I will not link any Facebook pages here, where many of the pilots showing off their skill in building an airplane. Take your time and search for it by yourself. _So now please, stop asking about from what the planes are made. It's not the matter to be discussed here._ .... and I have no desire to waste my time for this kind of conversations. _SORRY_ btw. This video shows a summary of the *Moments* I've captured during the season. Nothing else. _Best regards, RCSA_

People need to start training with tiny planes before moving up to this stuff it like from pre school to college in a second and people like this shouldn't have these things because if they come in for a landing NOT TRAINED they could seriously injure someone it really annoys me

I used to fly model airplanes when I was in my youth. It was a blast, but it got too expensive, and I had things happen in life that forced me to give it up. Thanks for posting this, it was great to see all those awesome aircraft, especially that ME-262, Salamander, and the BF-110!!

Great video, I've only been flying a year and just moved upto warbirds and finding out how much skill they require not only to fly but take off and land. Infact landing is by far the hardest thing to do if you dont want to keep bringing your bird home in peices so well done to everyone. Have a great 2014
