Congrats on finishing your Red Dwarf reviews! It's a criminally underappreciated show and it's great to see that people still love it after all of these years, especially outside of the UK. I'd love to hear your take on the novels at some point as they are so much darker (almost to the point of grimdark territory) than the show.

Thanks for the reviews. It was so nice to see Holly, Captain Holister, the old uniforms and the bunk room again. I think it works for Holly to be older now, I mean, he is a senile computer after all. Seeing the earth outside the window got me a little teary eyed because Rimmer had essentially done what they had been trying to do all along; get back home. When the credits started to roll and I heard "let me fly far away from here", it took on an extra meaning for me thanks to this episode. Keep making Red Dwarf stuff! You have a lot of insight!

8:13 And just like Hollister's office back in Series 1, Lister also has a miniature of the original Red Dwarf Series 1-5 ship. I SO want that. Corgi released a Red Dwarf miniature many years ago, but it was the remastered/Series 8 version. While the Series 8 ship looks great as a miniature, I'd still like the bulkier version from the earlier series.

Sadly, I think a lot of us would do what Rimmer did at the end of the episode. I read once about an experiment in which people were asked if they would rather be payed $100,000 a year while their coworkers were paid $110,000, or be paid $90,000 a year while their coworkers were paid $80,000. Most choose to be paid less as long as everyone else chose to be paid even less than them.

As a Brit, it's been a joy to see my favourite show from my whole life through the eyes of an American, but also there's a criminally small amount of material on YT about RD compared to other genre shows (e.g. Doctor Who) Thanks for letting me relive the whole thing all over again, and reaffirming why it's been a big deal in my life since I was about 10 years old. 25 years later, it still means the world to me. I always say the problem with some shows is they don't know when to quit. But I will ALWAYS welcome new Dwarf. Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas. Whatever.

Wonderful overview of a wonderful series. :) I've heard some fan theories that Rimmer's unnamed and unseen wife in the last dimension he visited was Kochanski. I kind of like the idea myself.
@JohnDoe-vy6ju4 жыл бұрын
nah, it's everything Rimmer wants but still not enough because Lister outshines him as Captain (and as a mega millionaire, which Rimmer could not abide in "Timeslides"). Kochanski would still be a card Rimmer held over him. Bagging Lister's girl would be the petty spiteful victory Rimmer might well cherish enough to still stay there. It would have to be an alt-version of Nirvana Crane, the woman from the Holoship that legitimately seemed to like him [and what a fun Fanservicey callback that would be!]. Or maybe one last reference to Yvonne Magruder who, concussions notwithstanding, seems the closest he came to an actual girlfriend [and was his Better Than Life wife]. If there's a foil/parallel in Rimmer's life to Lister's obsession with Kochanski. Someone Rimmer legitimately seems to have liked and wanted, and would have actually finally had, had he stayed. Which he, ever being his Own Worst Enemy, refused to do. Wow, this show as a formative influence on my media taste/consumption. Glad it's still around and people still remember and like it. Enjoyed binging this Vlog series, hope the OP had fun making it.

Sure not all seasons are created equal, but that's just how it goes. A great series for you to cover, which has a very similar tone and style to early Red Dwarf, would be the TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It’s also only 6 episodes long, so you don’t have to worry about a super long commitment. Red Dwarf took a lot of inspiration from that series (and the novels & radio show), so it’s definitely worth checking out.

I want to thank you for these videos. I have loved Red Dwarf since the 1st season became available here in Canada. I used to tape the episodes from cable tv late night hoping to collect the whole series but never managed it. I have since enjoyed them all on the internet but your insights and commentary really opened new perspectives and actually increased my devotion to the show. Someone already suggested you do a set of videos on the UK show Being Human. I would enjoy that as I was also huge fan of that show. Not to provide spoilers of any great significance, but in one instance the ghost werewolf and vampire who share a house befriend a young neighbor who was being bullied. He finds a video of vampire porn which shows a human man having sex with a vampire lady who does not show on the film so seeing her son watch a video of a naked man writhing on a bed his mom loses it and the whole neighborhood are attacking the heroes, they paint pedos on the door of their house. The werewolf reading this says to the vampire yes we are monsters but not that kind of monster. It gets resolved but provided some dark humour. The show ranges from high drama to some comedic scenes as they try to fit in to the human world despite their " conditions" . I suggest have a look if just to see some quality tv even if you dont deem it worthy of a series of videos like these. Major respect to you for the effort and skill you clearly put into these vlogs. I intend to watch all your other videos once i complete your series on the Cat. If i were a wealthy man rather than a retired pensioner i would surely contribute to your channel ( lame excuse i know) but thanks again and i wish you well.

I don't know what it is with the modern show but there are a few moments where i see Ace in Rimmer and something horrible happened might have happened to him to revert him back to Rimmer (he has been effected by technology before and who knows season 8 rimmeris now Ace). One of the things i like about this show is a throw away line or event get expanded years later and makes you look back at the previous episodes in a new light.
