S9 E9 Modern vs Traditional Construction in Georgetown

In this video, I discuss the difference between modern and traditional architecture. I explain why I think the new Pegasus Suites and Corporate Center is the first modern high-rise building in Guyana. This does not mean that the building is beautiful, it only means that the design is modern contemporary, and minimalist.

Matter of fact there will be no old or new town in the next 20 years or so, sea level rise will require scuba gears and snorkeling just to see the Pegasus..!!

I love that Guyana is going more modern. There are ways to preserve the older GT, perfect example would be Cartagena, Colombia. Guyana should definitely look at their brothers & sisters in other South American Countries. Nonetheless I am proud of Guyana’s direction in infrastructure!

Old thinking is keeping Guyana back. I understand everything you were saying in the first video. It's about the design framework not the look of the building.

Raphael, I am going to back you on this one, you are quite right. It's a new modern building for Guyana and even the Caribbean, but the only beef l have with this building is that it's too short. We are building many new buildings here in New York that look just like the new pegasus, but they are much taller. I have a problem with the height, and that is what throws it off.

I agree, while it is modern, the architecture is lacking to make it look appealing as it is short, a building exactly like that but at least 2 times the height would seem like proper architecture in the modern world, in the end, it’s a first for Guyana and there is many more to come, and many parking lots and garages to come too because Georgetown is going to get an F in the international urban planning stage as we continue to open our doors

Surely the round Pegasus Hotel would have been the "First Modern Building" in Guyana and that has been up for years - 1969 ?? Bank of Guyana 1965, Caricom Building 2005

I think whats happening is confusing modern construction with modern design. I would not agree that the design of the new pegasus is a modern design. It's cool that you showcased Zaha Hadid's design, perhaps look into Frank Gehry as well.

We just have different views... They missed the opportunity to add some character to the outside. There are many things they could have done to the design to make it more captivating. The walls are just plane glass, which isn't always attractive. Imagine how much nicer it would have been if you could see some white features on it. Maybe white that may appear to be giant columns, or some framework.. Even layer the building some more, or even introduce another facade on one side. Something else to see rather than full glass boxes.
